Root Zio wont wake from sleep at times

OK I've searched the internet, searched these forums...all I can tell from all of the searching and reading I've done (2+ hours this AM) is that other people with other phones also have this same problem...and there is no documented solution for it. Loads of open ended threads with no "I did this and for a month now I've had no problems".

Here's the jist:

Phone sits for a while, maybe in my pocket, maybe on the charger, maybe unplugged on the counter-top...it's happened in all three scenarios. Sometimes it's 15 minutes, sometimes it's overnight that it sits without me touching it. Sometimes the display timed itself out, others I locked screen with END key (which I generally do 99% of the time).

When I go to hit END to wake the phone, the screen lightens slightly to a gray color, but nothing is visible on it, no slide-unlock, nothing at all. I wait, nothing, keys go dark again. I try END again, nothing. Next I try SEND, nothing. Once I held SEND down until the keys darkened again, then hit SEND again and the screen came on. Tried this again today when it wouldn't wake...it did NOT work.

I've tried mashing the keys in random patterns, waiting, holding keys, etc. Sometimes it just finally comes back on where I can see the screen. This AM I had to pull the battery. This is especially frustrating when the alarm went off one morning and it took me 2 minutes to silence it without pulling the battery. Other times I just want to call or text on my phone real quick, maybe take a picture...but the screen wont come up.

I'm running 2.2 and have ZERO other problems. The problem occured before any of my recent app downloads. I'm unrooted.

Has anyone had this issue, on any Android phone, and found a solution that worked???

Update: I'm on day 2 without the SD card in the phone and haven't had any instances of the screen not fully coming up after waking. If I make it through the day like this I'm going to try another SD card I have. The one I had been using has been in several phones, including blackberries and other non-smart phones, and I seem to remember one of the devices asking me from time to time if I wanted to repair the card...starting to think that was it.

Granted thus far I'm talking to myself, here's the latest:

Had a few instances of phone not waking immediately even without SD card. Thus far whenever it's happened I've found that doing the following will wake the phone:

First I press End to wake, as usual. If the screen doesn't show unlock (or anything at all) I simply wait for keys to go dark again. Then press End again, and generally the same thing happens with no screen, so I wait for keys to go dark one more time, then press End a third time...the screen shows the unlock screen.

So far 5 or 6 times in a row this has worked. A pain in the kiester to be sure, but not the end of the world.

I did a factory data reset this AM and the issue still manifest itself thereafter, without downloading a single app.

Hope this helps if anyone ever has this issue in the future.
