Help ZTE Valet messaging problem

Just switched to Straight Talk on a ZTE Valet. Can send messages to anyone, UNLESS answering a msg that came from an IPhone - then the outgoing msg fails. Found some online tips indicating that an Access Point Name needs to be added/modified on the phone. Now for the prob - I may be crazy, but I can't find the APN list on the ZTE Valet. Should be under Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> More..., but the only thing there is VPN. Any ideas on why I can't find the APN list on the Valet, or any other way to correct the prob responding to an iPhone msg? Any help would be sincerely appreciated!

The problem is most likely totally different. Android phones don't do iMessage, and you're trying to return one.

The APN is used to connect your phone to your provider's (AT&T? T-Mobile?) gateway for data. Text messages are voice (as far as the phone network is concerned), nothing to do with the APN.

I'm guessing that you either came from an iPhone (in which case read How do I turn off iMessage when switching to Android - read the "if all else fails" part at the end) or your iPhone friends have to learn to send you at least one text message (each one has to do it at least once), so their phones stop sending you iMessages.

But texting and APNs have as much in common as ducks and duck tape (yes, I know, it's not spelled that way).

Rukbat - thanks so much for the reply. It's clear that I need to learn a little more about messaging. Let me clarify, just to make sure that I understand (and ask a question in the process). I previously had an HTC Inspire Android phone on an AT&T network for a couple of years, at $100/year. Could send and receive text messages from anyone on any network. Just switched to Straight Talk strictly for a price break. The new ZTE Valet phone that I have can send and receive messages from anyone on any network, unless a friend with an iPhone sends a text message first(that would have been received with no prob from the HTC Inspire). In that particular case, responding to that text message fails. In my limited knowledge, all these are just text messages. Please forgive any lack of knowledge on my part, just trying to be sure that I understand. Again, your time in responding is really, really appreciated!
