S9 - GPS problem - tracking not working

Hi everyone,

I have a problem with my Galaxy s9:

1. GPS turns on but the range of my position is very inaccurately
2. Doesn't work tracking system in phone - Maps GPS not working
- in Maps show only the position in which I started the program but does not track despite the movement
- using LTE or WI-FI does not help
3. The phone was reset to factory settings many times and any non-invasive other methods available from Google were also I used
- GPS Test APK does not detect satellites correctly.

Apparently some module / chip has broken. Could someone please write me what I need to replace, please?
Is one element or the entire motherboard?

Thanks!

Recommendation for a replacement remote for Amazon Fire TV

I have an Amazon Fire TV, 2nd generation (a flat square, not a cube like the Amazon Fire Cube).

I installed PBA Bowling app on my Amazon Fire TV and because I kept using the Amazon remote to play the game, the remote doesn't work well. The direction button (the circular one) doesn't react as well. At times, if I press the button to the left or the right, it doesn't respond and I have to press it again, which sometimes causes problems. At other times, pressing the button once results in an action as if I pressed the direction button twice.

I think the solenoids underneath the button were worn out. So I looked at the various options on the Internet and I bought several ones. But most of them do not pair with the Amazon Fire TV and I had to return it.

I would like a replacement remote for the Amazon Fire TV that pairs with the Fire TV, and also has the HOME button ABOVE the circular direction button. This is important because if the HOME button is below the circular direction button, it's confused with the Play button and causes problems when I play games using this kind of remote.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a remote that pairs with Amazon Fire TV *and* has the HOME button above the circular direction button?

samsung galaxy a21 sim question

i have the a21 and the sim tray has the sd card open section and then a sim section closed and then a sin section open. what i would like to find out is if i was to put a double sim tray in this phone would it pick up the 2nd sim and let me use the phone as a dual sim phone?

i have metro pcs and tracfone plans. i had the tracfone plan for 15 years and this past month the wife got a free line from metro pcs so i put that sim into my a21, but that line has been turned off now 4 times in the past month for one reason or another. i found out that if she does anything to her paid line then the free line gets turned off and she has to call metro to get it turned back on, so i would like to get a dual sim phone and keep tracfone for maybe a year to make sure the metro sim does not get turned off again, if it does then i will ust leave it off and go back to tracfone. i do not want to just leave tracfone until i prove out metro will leave the free line up and running.

so if the a21 phone i now have can work with a dual sim tray i will get one and set this phone up for both sims.

Is there a way for custom/advanced "rules"? (based on location)

Hello

I like the rules feature, but it is very limited. I can only set my phone to silent/vibrate/ring or turn on "do not disturb" mode, based on wifi network or location.

What I want to do is, change the directory where photos taken are saved based on my current GPS location. That way I could have a custom directory dedicated for photos taken at work. I take a lot of photos at work and I do not want these to get backed up to Google Photos like the photos I take in my free time.

I hope one of you can provide a smart solution. I would install an additional app if necessary, but I would prefer onboard solutions.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards

Trying to edit hosts file on Bluestacks 5 but can't get adb working...

Hi

I'm not an Android developer by any stretch of the imagination so please bear with me if I'm a little slow on this, but I'm trying to add an entry to the hosts file in Bluestacks 5 (on Windows 10) and I'm not getting very far.

I've rooted it (confirmed with Root Checker) and have downloaded a terminal emulator, but every time I try and edit the hosts file, it just says "hosts is read-only" when I come to save it.

From looking round online, some suggestions are that the filesystem is mounted in read-only mode and needs to be mounted in read-write mode. I found this post that provides what seems to be a decent set of steps and mentions the use of adb. So I've downloaded platform tools from here and unzipped to the PC on which Bluestacks is running (btw I don't have the full Android Studio installed).

The first thing I ran was:
Code:
adb devices

...and it threw an error:
Code:
adb server version (36) doesn't match this client (41); killing...
* daemon started successfully
List of devices attached

However, if I now run the same command again, it no longer throws this error...so I don't know if that's an issue or not?

I've checked in Bluestacks settings and the "Android Debug Bridge" option is enabled and is on 127.0.0.1:52337.

I then tried to connect to this using:
Code:
adb connect localhost:52337

...and it came back with:
Code:
cannot connect to 127.0.0.1:52337: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it. (10061)

Can anyone help with this? Or am I totally barking up the wrong tree? And if so, is there a better way of editing the hosts file?

Thanks

suddenly think of an interesting question

suddenly think of an interesting question.

It's often said a phone could get damaged when dropped from height. Well, what is actual electronic part that would get damaged by strong impact? From my knowledge many parts in the electronic circuits are well mounted or soldered that should not be affected easily by shocking. Or is in most cases the damage is about appearance of the phone e.g. scratches, breaking the glass, rather than the functionality?

gzip files updated leads to patch problems

Here is the short version:

I was having issues with build commands complaining that a couple of .tar.gz files were not true gzip files. So I download the latest versions of zlib.tar.gz and libicon.tar.gz. That seemed to have issues later on, I suspect because the patch commands in some make files had failures. How is that for people with low reading comprehension skills?

Here is the long version:

I was following the ballantyne.online steps for building an atack dev environment and I the build scripts
stumbled and said that zlib.tar.gz as well ad libicon.tar.gz were not true gzip files.
So I downloaded the latest versions of these files and proceeded. Eventually this might have something to do with a later snag.
Something went wrong when I tried running:
make TARGET=android-arm64-v8a GDAL_USE_KDU=no build_spatialite build_gdal build_commoncommo build_assimp

Things seem to start go to grong when it reaches a 'patch' command in the script:

patch -p0 -d /home/worker/AndroidTacticalAssaultKit-CIV/takthirdparty/builds/android-arm64-v8a-release < /home/worker/AndroidTacticalAssaultKit-CIV/takthirdparty/distfiles/libiconv-pgsc.patch
patching file libiconv/configure

What follows these two lines aare a series of numbered failure statements:

Hunk #1 FAILED at 6299.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 6887.
Hunk #3 succeeded at 8145 with fuzz 2 (offset 740 lines).
Hunk #4 FAILED at 7445.
3 out of 4 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file libiconv/configure.rej

Then the output announces a new patching:

patching file libiconv/libcharset/configure

Then I have a new sets of failure announcements:

Hunk #1 FAILED at 3967.
Hunk #2 FAILED at 4526.
2 out of 2 hunks FAILED -- saving rejects to file libiconv/libcharset/configure.rej

But then we have something different

can't find file to patch at input line 208

So now I am wondering which imput file they are referring to? Which one is it and should I edit it?

The output continues:

Perhaps you used the wrong -p or --strip option?

Android 11 tool bar of contacts in Contacts app hides behind freeform window decorations

In Android 11, when you open up a contact in freeform window, the top tool bar (with a star, a pen and 3 vertical dots) hides behind the decoration of the freeform window (the title bar with "maximize/restore" & "close" buttons). When you move the window or minimize/maximize again, it shows correctly (see pics).

It is fixed in Android 12, but I would like to make this right on Android 11 for my purpose. Where exactly should I fix that problem in the Android's source code? Thanks in advance!!

Samsung s21 keeps restarting randomly

I have had my phone for about 6months and it keeps randomly restarting. i called Samsung and they sent someone out to fix it but told me to factory reset the phone before. After they looked at the phone they said that everything seems to be working normally, but can't see what was restarting the phone as the logs were wiped with the factory reset. It has been 5hours since and the phone has already restarted.
all i have done is sign into google, samsung and downloaded bitwarden.
i tried getting the logs myself and i will post the output below:
thanks in advance

Help Android 9 SBC and M.2 modem

Hello

I have an Khadas Vim3 single board computer with Android 9 installed on it. I wanted to add to it modem for mobile connection. I got myself Simcom SIM7600 connected through M.2 and extension board (that contains SIM card slot). I have follow the instruction, added following lines to init.rc
#-------------------------------------------------------------------
service ril-daemon /system/bin/rild - l /system/lib/libreference-ril.so
class main
socket rild stream 660 root radio
socket rild - debug stream 660 radio system
#---- gps supported ??? --------------------
socket rild - gps stream 660 radio system
user root
group radio cache inet misc audio sdcard_rw
#-------------------------------------------------------------------

I have also copied /system/lib/libreference-ril.so and /system/lib/libril.so from the driver package for the modem.

Problem is, it seems like device is still behaving like there's no functional modem plugged in.

Please help

SD Permissions

Hello,

I am working on developing an application that requires reading a file from the SD card. I am trying to read from either the downloads or the documents directory. I am getting an error back when attempting to read the file saying "Cannot open file. Permission denied." I have checked the permissions in the settings and it says the application has permissions to media on the SD card. I have a permissions check in the code as well. Anyone else have this issue? I have ran the same code on a different tablet (may be a different version of android I cant remember) without this issue.

I have also tried some code I found on stack overflow. And chosen the directory my file is located. This also did not work.

Don't play misty for me

I have no idea why the camera of this Samsung Galaxy A02s has a kind of haze. When I go to take a shot of something or make a video, it looks as if an angel's about to land. It would probably be pretty good for a Christmas pageant, but kinda lame most of the time. I sure would like to know how to fix it. By the way, can I make it open on video instead of photo? Can the timeout be changed as it can for how long the screen stays lit?

How to Download Free Ringtones For Mobile

Nowadays, you can create custom ringtones to add your own personal style to your phone. Modern wireless phones are sophisticated computers, and adding a ringtone to your phone can make it more appealing to you. Ringtones are fun and unique, and they can be a great way to identify your phone. This will make it easier to get the phone to ring when you receive a text message from a friend or relative at tonosparacelular.net

Ringtones were first created and delivered in Finland in 1998. A Finnish software developer named Vesku-Matti Paananen developed tools for individuals to make their own monophonic ring tones and then delivered them over the air using a system known as Harmonium. In November of the same year, a similar service was introduced by the Digitalphone Group in Japan. Ultimately, the popularity of ringtones has skyrocketed over the years.

Suggestions & help finding a good protective case for my Sony Xperia 1 III

Wow, OK so I'm 1st post ever under this....

I'm looking for suggestions on protective cases for my Sony Xperia 1 III, seems they're few & far between unfortunately... Sony doesn't even offer 1 for it in the USA currently and their support staff aren't allowed to suggest anything else either (though otherwise their CS been exponentially better than Samsung)

I'm looking for a protective case that's really good at protecting phone body, internal components/circuit boards/chips, etc and ideally offers decent protection of screen from cracks... Or at least a quality screen protector against cracks, chipping, etc that will work well with a protective phone case and not intefere or noticeably reduce effectiveness, loudness & sound quality of the 2nd stereo loudspeaker (which is located at bottom of phone screen, and like some of Sony Bravia TVs, essentially uses the screen as the speaker cone to generate sound, quite effectively I must say, so covering/dampening screen heavily will probably have negative effect). The USB port is in usual place at bottom of phone, the 3.5mm/¼" headphone audio output jack is at top & left side of phone. The volume, power/lock & unlock, digital assistant & camera pic button are all on right side of phone. The MICRO SD card & sim card slot are on upper left but don't care if they're covered by case when it's on the phone.

Case can be a tad bit on bigger side and a weigh fairly decent amount, but preferably not a huge, clunky, adds tons of weight type case. Obviously would prefer it be light, relatively thin but still very robust in protection & shock/drop absorption abilities as well as being overall durable, which are by far the main priorities. Would greatly prefer if case works well with quality, ideally glass/hard screen protectors or case has/comes with 1 of them.

Would really prefer if case allows phone to retain it's wireless charging, NFC, etc function & capabilities still with case installed on phone.

These aren't required, but would be nice if case had them:

Hand strap or maybe a wrist strap

"kickstand" type ability on back of protective case

Possibly a single stylus carrier/holder spot

Either the protective case comes with or would like some suggestion on either a belt clip carrier case where phone in protective case snaps securely into belt clip carrier, or more preferably it slides into/out of opening at the top of belt clip carrier/holder (1 that holds phone fairly securely, but easy enough to grab upper sides of phone to pull out. I had 1 for old phone years ago that had decently thick & protective semi hard foam & pleather front attached via some spandex/stretchy material to a fairly rigid back that had the belt clip on it, and a thicker, durable, very flexible material as bottom portion of it. It was very useful & phone didn't ever fall out, nor pop out more than ⅓ of way, usually less, even when dropped a good bit onto hard surface)

I don't need card & ID holders like a travel wallet (or worse, a murse lol), magnetic flip cover, premium real Levant Leather, etc, nor some eclectic patterns & colors, etc. Blacks, greys, very dark purples/violets, darker true/imperial/ruby reds are fine, some simple or clean looking patterns are fine (though I loathe poka dots, juvenile themes, feminine styles, loud/obnoxious stuff, cheap/obnoxious metal flake, florescent, etc). Simple, classic, less is more, though nice looking, well done & understated undertones, pearlescence, light metal flake/metallic, "midnight" colors can be nice and is fine, but simple or elegant/bespoke, traditional more masculine & functional is more my speed, otherwise not concerned with style statement.

Ideally available in North America/USA, very preferably not shipped directly from China (preferably not made there but that's a nearly impossible task).

$15-$75 USD is preferred price ranges, though for right options of great quality, etc, $100-$175 USD is potentially worthwhile.

Thanks

Tons of posts about 'what is this notification'

I have noticed a ton of posts asking the same question: 'what does this notification mean? what is this icon? etc' There's been a way to find out for years--ever since Android became a thing in 2008.

Swipe down from the top of the screen, and you should be able to read each notification--including the 'unknown' ones you're asking about.

Tap and hold a notification to get a sub-menu, depending on your version of Android you might see 'app info' or a settings cog icon (a gear), or a notification settings option. Tap one of those and it should take you to the app's page in Settings.

However, and it's still hard to believe this may still be a thing, but most 'oddball' notifications such as hearts, stars, rainbows and the like are spam notifications from RAM cleaners, Battery Savers, CPU Boosters and Task Killers. Many of whom were written by the infamous Cheetah Mobile, which I had hopes got killed off by the Play Store in like 2010 or something. I haven't heard of them in quite some time, not since the old 'AirPush' spam days. Do they still exist in some Zombie form I'm not aware of?

Also, UNINSTALL apps like Task Killers and RAM cleaners. Hard to believe people still fall for them today. Android does NOT need it. Leave it alone and it works perfectly fine on its own, and DON'T update apps all willy nilly. I know that the 'update' button on Play Store is enticing and all, but you'll eventually reduce your phone to a crawl as resources increase for updated versions. By all means, keep banking apps, shopping apps up to date, but many games, ebook readers, and the calculator or alarm clock do NOT need updating.

I use an 11 year old phone and it works as good as the day it was launched because I never updated a single app pre-installed on it and I use app APKs from the Android 2.3 days on it for any third party stuff.
