Strange problem conecting to windows.

Hi peeps,

I have couple of windows PCs. Both have shared drives but for whatever reason I can only access one of them on Android. All the windows PCs on the network can access all the shares on all other PCs so there is at least basic sharing working. I have multiple phones and tablets and all are the same - they can access one PC but not the other. I have Kodi and Total commander installed - it's the same in both apps.

Strange thing is when I attempt to access the non working drive in total commander it seems to lookup a DNS of 92.242.132.16 which seems to be a public DNS server. I have no idea why it's trying to go to an external DNS as everything is on the same lan. Checking the share settings on both PCs they seem to be the same with a couple of exceptions.

The non working has a workgroup setting - the working one does not

Any ideas what could be causing this.

<edit - removed Hyper-v as I nave now removed fromnon working PC - no difference.>

Battery charging v v slow

Odd, had my 3a for just over a year: Never had any particular issues with battery. This morning (left on charge overnight) it was showing just 57%. Slowly declined today, even when out driving with usual charge lead. If plugged into USB-C lead it does charge up a bit, but v v slowly, although reporting rapid charging. Currently on USC-C lead from factory 15W(?) charger - reports rapid charging - and has been at 72% for about an hour.

Was upgraded to Android 11 a couple of weeks ago, but no particular issues.

Is it just upset and sulking because I'm receiving a new 4a today?? Or is this a hardware fault. Or some software reporting issue.

Only one app added yesterday, now removed (IPL cricket).

Best regards & thanks in advance for each & any suggestion/comment.

Apps Google ChromeCast Android does not run smoothly when using local http url

My app would like to integrate the Google Chromecast feature and it is similar to Google Photos app. It allows the user to browse files, then cast to chrome cast devices. Following this link: https://github.com/googlecast/CastVideos-android.

I had set up a
local HTTP URL for my casting file like this URL below:
http://192.168.1.45:8989/local/storage/emulated/0/DCIM/AnyRestore/20200908_113828.mp4
The result is video file is successfully cast, but it is usually
interrupted, lag without any reason (although Wifi speed is very stable).

Then I had tried to hardcoding to change the
global URL look similar to this one:
https://commondatastorage.googleapis.com/gtv-videos-bucket/CastVideos/mp4/BigBuckBunny.mp4 like the sample app above. Magically
it works and runs smoothly.

So this is my question:
1. Can you help me answer what is the difference between using a local URL and a global URL which affect to ChromeCast process? Our app normally works in offline mode, so I prefer a local URL rather than a global URL.
2. I recognized that the Google Photo app seems to use a local URL (not global URL) because when I forced this app to stop, the casting process is also stopped at the same time. Does anyone help me confirm this and explain how the Google Photo app handle the ChromeCast feature? It is very helpful to me.

Thank you so much for your help.

Build debug vs release

Hi,
I have a Samsung tablet.
My app was developed based on a native library.
The native library has a release build.

I use Android Studio to do development. I use debug-x86 as build variant and the app can run correctly on the device.
1. I am curious why the app can run correctly even the native code is built as release?
2. Which build variant should I use.
3. If I use release build variant, can the performance be improved?

Many thanks.

Google Assistant Problem

Is anyone else having issues with Google Assistant? Mine seems to have developed a mind of it's own. With me saying the initiation phrase, it opens a full page offering help.

Is anyone seeing the same thing and is there a way to keep this from happening?
I don't want my phone to pester me.
Thanks ✌️

How to test android app from source code on android studio

Hello,

I hired a developer from guru to convert a website to an android app which worked already. I have two websites, a com is for different language that was converted into an android app and b com is for English language which is not converted into an app yet. the App developer sent me the code for a com. He said a .com and b com are the same so I just need to replace a to b .com . He refused any more support.

He sent me a zip file with all files and images on it. I unzipped it and open it from Android studio. I followed your instruction here:
importing-source-code-into-android-studio
But I don’t see button to run or test on my screen.

I already changed a com to b com on the file. But I don’t know how to test on android studio. I attached a screenshot. The play button greyed out.

I am using Android studio. Can you show me what else I need to change to make it work? a com and b com are exactly the same only different in language. They share the same database.

thanks.
