I'm still adjusting to the leap from Android 8 to 10. A lot's changed!

When I get a Ring alert for motion at my front door, and long-press on it to see/adjust its settings, the second entry in this list will be flashing:


I take that to mean it's the alert that sounded.

But the sound it plays is not the sound chosen for it. In fact, it's NONE of Ring's notification sounds.

I really want it to play the sound assigned to it; the one it plays is super-annoyingly long. Since assigning the sound I want doesn't work...what can I do?

Just FYI, I went ahead and checked all of Ring's other alerts to see if the annoying sound is actually coming from one of them--it's not. They all have their own sounds, and they play the correct ones.

I created a TAR backup of /data/media using TWRP/terminal booted into recovery.

I did a factory reset (actually just the DATA partition and then rebooted the phone into SYSTEM (Normal boot). Went thru all the "new phone" rigmarole successfully.

The went into recovery mode again and restored the TAR file. Figured it would restore the deice back to what it was before i was reset. NOPE!! Restoring the /data/media directory brought it back as though I had FACTORY RESET again.

I've done this before, (but probably on Nougat) and it used to work. Anybody have an idea; I'm stumped.

I created a tasker profile with an entry and exit task:

entry task: When I connect to a wifi network a log is added to a file like: 200718-21:08 Conn: <AP-name> <no newline>

exit task: When I disconnect my exit task completes the log with something like: , disc after <period>.

This results in a log file with entries like:
200718-21:08 Conn: <AP-name>, disc after <period>.
Most of the time the logfile is fine but occasionally the log file is different, showing the entry task text multiple times before the exit task text.

It seems like the entry task is executed multiple times and I have no clue why.

Of course there are ways around but I still would like to understand the why. Can anyone explain?

I have a Samsung tablet, running Android and I had a catastrophe earlier where I accidentally deleted the Nova Launcher settings and lost all my iHome pages.

I have spent the afternoon recreating the various pages, but, the one thing I cannot work out is how to change the image for each of the various shortcuts I have on the pages. I know it can be done as I have done it in the past, but, cannot for the life of me remember how!

The shortcuts have been created by going in to Chrome, finding the right website and then clicking "Add to Home Screen".

I have the Icon images already would be really grateful if somebody could point me at a suitable App I can use to change the image for shortcuts.

when I power on my phone it starts with a white screen then after minute or so it goes into the "Download - Do not turn off target". I tried the button combination which makes the screen go black but then loops back to green screen in a matter of seconds.

Wondering if anyone can help me out with explaining this? I am on Verizon and have had my phone for probably six years. I have needed a new one for a while, but when I find one I like, it often doesn't work on Verizon's network. I am currently at least a little intrigued by the ROG 3. Not sure if it will be available with Verizon. Thanks.

I have a Samsung A20 on Tmobile. This week my phone was forced updated with Android 10.
Last night before sleep , I powered my phone off and this morning it was still powered off. However, during the night my phone kept talking my notifications that I have setup! How in world can this happen! My phone is off but the notifications still play?!
Does anyone else have this problem?
Am I the first and only person to have this problem?
I am hoping that someone reading this can explain how this happens? Thanks

i am receiving a system update error during reboot process. The phone never completes the system update and simply says "error" after the progress bar reaches axppx 20 % across the screen, green engine-like image appears, and at that point the phone reboots without completing the update.
September 2018 is the latest update that the phone successfully completed, and currently the phone boots, updates apps and downloads very slowly. Apps update with somewhat strange behavior - very slowly, but with strange and sudden completion at times.

The phone is an LG Aristo 2 Plus. I have 1.1 GB of ram and 51% memory available after running the pre-installed cleaning app. All hardware is reported to be working fine, and I notice no malfunction other that those previously mentioned. The phone operated faster, and system updated fine when I first got it from the T-Mobile store 16 months ago.

Any idea how I can get this phone to update the system and with better speed?

Is there a way to make that happen? I want to have this Element tv start playing Unforgiven when it comes on next time, or at least some western with Clint Eastwood. I was thinking if trying Netflix for that.

I have an original Pixel 32GB, i bought it 10 months ago with Android 8 installed I believe and I unlocked the bootloader then updated to Android 10 and everything worked fine apart from i couldn't update one app and then it stopped working unless i updated it. It doesn't work on phones with unlocked bootloaders.
So 3 weeks ago I locked the bootloader and did a factory reset and I cant remember exactly when the problems started but definitely after 1.5-2 weeks the microphone stopped working, people would call me and they couldnt hear me and I couldnt hear them either. I could still get sound from radio, facebook, twitter videos etc etc no problem. Also the battery seemed to be running down a lot quicker than before as well

Then i started investigating and downloaded a hardware tester app that had a sound meter and I would open it randomly and it would say 0dB, I restart the phone then go back and it would display a fluctuating value, then at some point later if i did it again it would stay at 0dB, restarting the phone fixed it.
Then I was recording a video and "audio cant be recorded, microphone is in use by another app" so i went in to permissions and denied microphone for everything except camera, and the video recorded with sound ok, i then gave all the apps microphone permission again and it still worked so woooohhhooooo...... but then at some point later the microphone stopped working again.
I tried safe mode and microphone was still ok after several hours

A couple of times I picked up my phone and it was a white screen with a G and a moving bar underneath, i had to restart it by holding down power button and volume down, it never did this before the factory reset

I chatted to google support 2 nights ago he suggested
Reset app preferences.
force stop the camera
clear cache/storage for Camera, Google”, “Messages”, “Phone”, “Clock” and “Settings”.

But nothing worked

Sometimes i would try and do a video and camera app would crash, or sometimes it would record something but it wouldn't play

So today I did another factory reset, it was taking ages on a white screen with a G and a moving bar underneath then came up with an error saying it was corrupt and i could try again and do a factory reset, so i did factory reset again. Since then it has gone to the white screen with a G and a moving bar underneath several times while I've been using it, it did 1 video with sound ok then I just tried again, camera app crashed, photos app crashed, and no sound on the video.

Just tried Safe Mode again and video doesnt record with sound, so it gets worse after every factory reset....

Is there any software solution for this or is this a hardware problem? Just seems strange that it was absolutely fine until the first factory reset.

I have a sta card Samsung own Qi charger (the round type) I also have a magnetic Qi charger for the car which I have been unable to use as it requires me to stick a circular ring into the phone case so it sticks to the charger which normally wouldn't be a problem but the ring stops the Samsung charger from working.
Can anyone recommend a Qi charger for the house that will work if I have the metal ring installed into my phone so I can use the car charger also?

This happened last night and I was warned this time. It may be the Velvet update, but since I use Nova, I think it would be masked. The only change that I've found so far is that my icons on the left side of my status bar are gone.

After some investigation, I found that one of my settings had changed.
It was the "Status bar icons" got turned off. When I turned that setting back on, my icons returned.
If anyone gets this update and doesn't use and addon UA, please post the changes.

For example, at 1AM I was using whatsapp and went to sleep and the phone screen auto becomes black and locked after a few mins if nobody is using it. At 3AM if I unlock the phone with the intention of using other apps, after unlock immediately the first screen I saw is the whatsapp screen that was left opened at 1AM, in this case, the "last seen" details becomes last seen at 3AM. If I forget to close whatsapp during the last time phone is locked, how to prevent the last seen update when I unlock the phone?

It's a census year here in the US but, unfortunately, some 40% of Americans have failed to submit their census forms. There are many reasons people may have for this, but odds are, they're misinformed.

You're not putting yourself at risk of deportation, or anything else, by submitting your household's census form. Here in LA, both Governor Newsom and Mayor Garcetti have assured residents that no one will show up at their door to arrest, or deport, them as a result of completing the census.

But by not filling it out, you're jeopardizing your community in a number of ways. A big one: federal funding for various projects, like infrastructure improvements, will be sent elsewhere. They're based on population, so when your city's population is under-reported, there goes the funding it rightfully should've received.

If you haven't already submitted your 2020 census, please do so ASAP. You can do it online very easily. I didn't time it when I did mine, but it seems like it took less than 15 minutes.

Again, you're at no risk whatsoever of any bad results by filling it out, but your community may suffer financially if you don't.

When I try to sign info a hotspot, it didn't ask me for my user ID - only my password. Very odd. Now, when I try to connect, I get this error:
WEBPAGE UNAVAILABLE

The webpage at at http://..... could not be loaded because net:ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Any suggestion of how to fix this? Very frustrating. Thanks.
