Digital Sabotage

Here is an interesting story. I've had it happen more than once now and I'm curious if anyone else has.

I have an android Moto Z3. About two weeks ago I let my nephew hold my phone and he cracked the screen within minutes. Luckily the function of the phone and display was unaltered. All of the images looked great so I just dealt with it. Now i've been paying for insurance for a while and I decided to look up my coverage. It says I have $29 screen replacement through Asurion. So I filled out a claim for a new screen.

The very next day my phone stops working. Nothing on the screen, zero input. I tried all combinations to get it working again. Now I didn't drop my phone again, nor did I get it wet. It just wouldn't turn on. I contacted asurion to check on the status of my claim and they said "We digitally scanned the phone and it is saying there is more wrong than a cracked screen."

"You did what??? I said. How odd is it that right after I file the claim that my phone stops working? I find it hard to believe that the cracked glass suddenly destroyed my phone. You don't like the idea of a $29 dollar screen vs a $99 dollar used phone."

I'm not a conspiracy theorist at heart. However this is the second phone to have this exact symptom. It was a broken screen, working fine, filed a claim and BOOM phone won't work. I never though about it until now when the agent told me about digitally scanning my phone. I wonder how hard it would be to look at the code...

I intend to find out more. Any similar experiences? Class action against Asurion anyone? I happen to have a pretty good lawyer. The issue would be proving it.

Lockscreen Settings

Hi all,

I've migrated back to android from iPhone and I can't seem to configure the lock screen to the way my iPhone was. Badically, with my iPhone I could have face recognition and leave the phone unlocked for an hour before it requires a pin. I could use my face recognition to log into apps with no problem.

Is there a way to have the phone unlock via swipe and still be able to use face recognition to log into apps? It would be a bonus to have the pin require after a certain period of time too. I guess this would be the determining factor of whether or not I stay with android or return it. I find it to be a pain in the ass to unlock this phone because I'm tapping swiping inputting a pin etc .....

My phone wont turn on or do anything

Largest FAT File System on SDCard?

What is the largest size FAT file system to which both Android and Windows 8 will support both reading and writing? I thought the limit was 32GB. Somehow I ended up with a 64GB SDCard with exFAT on it and that is working between the two operating systems.

Assuming a 128 GB SDCard will work, should I be doing the initial format of that under Android, or under Windows? Do I need any special format settings under Windows, or does it require a third party utility?

Videos not playing in various browsers

Well, my other thread is getting no love... :( So how about this?!

I recently posted that, with Chrome, videos play just fine--but without sound. So I tried other browsers a few days ago when I wanted to see a specific video. [It's not on YouTube, so that wasn't an option.] Here's what I got:

Firefox

video_firefox.png

Opera

video_opera.png

DuckDuckGo, before and after touching it

video_duckduckgo_1.png

video_duckduckgo_2.png

In each case, I have the most recent version; I double-checked in Play to see if there were updates--there weren't.

I was finally able to watch the video by using Epic, a browser I don't even recall hearing of before.

Any ideas?

How to unlock bootloader

I have infinix hot 4 lite X557 Android 6. (NO root) and LOCKED bootloader
So i decided that it was time to unlock my bootloader and i tried to use the official method (using adb and fastboot)
So i just connected my phone to my Windows PC and run adb devices command my phone was recognised i typed
adb reboot bootloader
It rebooted to fastboot mood
I ran fastboot devices and my phone was recognised now i typed
fastboot oem unlock
And i got an error saying
remote : 'unknown command '
I also tried
fastboot flashing unlock
It returns
remote: 'unknown command'
So just type
fastboot reboot
And my phone got back to normal
My question is why is *fastboot oem unlock* not working
I see in videos people flashing TWRP on infinix hot 4 lite X557
So that means this model have a unlock able bootloader
But mine is not unlocking please help?! I would really appreciate it
P.S : i heard something about phones that are can be normally unlock with adb and fastboot but the same device if bought from ISPs or carriers or service providers ...you can not unlock them so you have to unlock the chip first i am not sure if my phone was brought from ISP or not

Ansoku, a free relaxing puzzle game for Android - Finished and published!

Last month I made an attempt at a relaxing/casual puzzle game, and actually managed to complete it! I just want to share it with you guys and hopefully get some feedback.

The goal was to keep the project simple and focus on the easy to play hard to master principle.

The result is based on the "place blocks to create rows" concept, but I added a point system I have not seen anywhere before to give it something unique, and also beefed up the graphics and atmosphere to make it (hopefully) more attractive than the competitors.

It feels good to finish it and have a real product to show for, because of the realistic/small scope I managed to complete it within a small timeframe, and thus not lose enthusiasm during development. That really worked for me, it won't be my last project like this, it's fun.

Anyway, it's available on the Play Store for anyone that wants to check it out :) Feedback is highly appreciated!

Edit Contact dropdown Label list blank TExt color wrong

I loaded Android Q and set it to dark mode in Settings Display. Now when I go into Contacts and edit a contact then try to change the Label it presents a list of white on white so the entries are hidden. The text color should be black or the background should be black with white text. This is a bug for dark mode in the Contacts APP. It applies to all drop down list in the app. Any way to

Two Home icons merged. Pls help separate

Somehow (what I did??) one of my two Android Home Screen icons: Mail or Chrome piggybacked onto another and now I have in my Home Screen an icon that shows two very small images of those icons and to open each I have to tap twice: first this piggybacked and then the necessary as the piggybacked opens then into two those separate ones. Pls help me get back to my normal Home with two separate Email and Chrome icons. All my attempts to do it myself failed.
Many thanks for attention .

Trying again... Apps are NOT closed--but they're not shown in recents

I tried this awhile back, and got nowhere. So I thought I'd give it another whirl!

Here's the scenario:

- when viewing recents, only a few apps are shown, like this:

recents_1.png

- in order to access a non-shown app, I press its app drawer icon; the app opens--in the EXACT state I left it, like this:

recents_2.png

- each app is exactly as I left it, so, for example, Chrome has all its tabs open to where I was when it hid, like this:

recents_3.png

The 'missing' apps are not closed, but they're also not accessible/not shown in recents; I must use their icon to bring them back. Why?!

There are absolutely no memory-related settings at play here.

There are no specific apps that do this--they're all fair game.

There is no set number of apps that remain visible/accessible in recents; it can be 3, 4, 5, 6...

The only thing I can say for sure is that the last-used app doesn't hide. Knowing that, I deliberately bring ADT Pulse up just before calling it a night. That way, if I need it in a hurry, I know it'll be right there.

Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? PLEASE! :o

Putting music from iTunes on an Android Phone

Hi All -

I’ve been a long time Apple user. I tried to switch with the Note 9, but returned it because I couldn’t figure out how to sync music between iTunes and the Note 9. I found some programs however, they couldn’t import duplicates. I am huge classical music buff, so for example, I have tracks titled “Symphony No. 7” by a good dozen composers. I wouldn’t allow me to add them all because it saw them as duplicates.

If anyone has an easy way let me know, please. I’ve searched YouTube and everything there is so old, and it did not work last time.

Thanks,
Gellio

Finding and Stopping Programs Running in "Background"

My battery charge % is continuing to drop more than seems to be right for what I'm "normally" doing on the phone. I expect its because there are programs running continuously in the background that are eating up the battery.

How do I (1) identify these programs and (2) how do I stop them? I know that Avast is running and I'm OK with its active security (just as I have it doing on my computer). How do I find the others?

When I go to Settings -> Storage -> -> Apps I see a list of programs that apparently are running. But I don't know if that's true. They may have been loaded when I powered on the phone, but are just sitting there doing nothing at all (except taking up space). I have no use for most of these programs (e.g. Amazon, Lookout, T-Mobile TV, Google Play Movies, Facebook et al). I don't know if stopping any of them would make a difference. And I don't know a safe way to stop any.

One time I found a place to stop something - I can't remember where that is on the phone - and got this dire warning to the effect that stopping the program can have unpredictable results, which would seriously impact the use of the phone. When I select one and try "clear data" - I don't what that would really do - I get another dire warning that all kinds of things will be lost forever.

The question comes down to how do I find which programs are continuously running (including ones that I don't know about,) how do I stop them without having "dire, catastrophic results", can they be "re-started" if for some unforseen and strange reason I actually wanted one of these programs in the future, and is there a way to stop these and keep them stopped without having to do this every time I power on the phone.

Oh by the way - I just installed Signal Messaging. Can that be one of the culprits? If so, is there a way to stop it without deleting it from the phone? I need that only for a very, very limited use at just occasional specific times.

= = = = =
Update:
I just found a list under Settings -> Battery & Power Saving -> Battery Usage -> Battery Use Details.
It shows Screen as taking 27%, Phone Idle 7%, Android System 4%, Android OS 3% and a bunch of others around 1%-2% (including dex2oat, what's that?). I don't see anything that would explain the precipitous drop from 39% to 26% in about an hour (without any phone calls or text messaging). Nor do I understand the difference between Android System and Android OS. As for Signal, it's not even listed here, though I know I had been looking at it (though not actually using it).

Any suggestions as to what I should do from here? It appears to me that something is significantly draining the battery - and I don't know just what it is nor what to do about it.
