Hi, folks.

I've had a Moto G3 for a few years now and it's been an good phone, just not enough storage. I'm toying with the idea of replacing it for the G7 Play since it's available for about $80 (still amazes me how fast prices drop after they are released).

So that's kind of the question in a nutshell: Having lived with the phone for a while and knowing what you now know, would you buy it again?

And if you don't mind a couple of other questions:
What are your favorite things about your G7 Play?
What do you dislike the most about it?

TIA!

Accessories Is It Possible For An Individual To View Everything You Do Via Chromecast?

This is related to chromecast. If I posted this in the wrong forum, please move where appropriate.

I have about several of my devices connected to a private home network and it is managed by someone I don't particularly like, trust. That's the issue really. The thing is I'm not as tech savvy as he is and he knows it.

This is about a small device connected to a livingroom TV. He basically lives there with all his things stuffed behind a couch. He also pays for the internet whilst I contribute to bills and rent. This question may seem daft to you, but its a real concern of mine and its the reason why I'm here. Is it at all possible he can view everything taking place on my non primary Windows 10 machine via HIS Chromecast? Homegroup is switched off.

I use a Windows 10 laptop and I started noticing little strange instances when using it on the home network. For example when the internet went down and the router would disappear. In that moment, the laptop would connect to his Chromecast "diningroom" as if its like a network hub. I would see this in "system tray". I know that shouldn't be. I do a lot of online banking and asking this individual outright whether or not he's been viewing what has taking place on my WIN 10 machine will be of nooo use. So that's why I'm here. Any help and advice advice would be appreciated.

Help I would like some advice on Xiaomi phones, please.

Hi everyone,

I hope I'm posting in the right section!! I'm Villy and I am quiet clueless when it comes to phones. I'm an Australian living in Italy and my Samsung s7 died at the start of the lockdown so I've been without a phone for a few months.

I have been reading reviews on some phones, but to be honest I feel more confused than I was when I started. I am looking for a phone below or around the €500 mark with a good amount of storage (is 6G - 128 GB okay?), with a good camera, bis screen, preferably a headphone jack, NFC, decent battery, Android 10 (Q) or 9.0 Pie, battery capacity of 4OOOmAH, unlocked, AMOLED display and I like curved corners. To be honest, I am not 100% sure what all of that means, but I think that's what I want.
I have been looking at the Xiaomi Mi 9t Pro (though hard to find!) and the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro. Does anyone know which is the better phone, please?

I also saw on the Mi Italia site something called a POCO F2 Pro. As I don't really know what the hell I'm talking really open to any suggestions, even other brands.

I'm really appreciative on any help. I hope you're all safe and well. BLM. ACAB.

I told Dropbox to go $#@& themselves!

I finally had it with Dropbox. I'd been unhappy with it for a long time, but just didn't have the energy to do anything about it. Then the last straw happened, and I said to hell with it!

Long story, but I'm done with DB. I've switched to a paid plan on Drive. So far, no complaints, although they don't have a native Linux client. I can easily up- and download files from my computers [using my browser], but a native app would be nice. I know about several third-party apps, but haven't felt a need to try them yet.

Opening a port

Hi, I have a galaxy note 3 i had rooted years ago. I use sprint. And i use this device as my hot spot to get online. Im trying to use the product Fantasy Grounds to host online rpgs but i cannot find a way to open the port so my friends can play with me. Sprint of course says a port cant be opened for security reasons. Anyone know how to do this or circumvent it to find a solution? Thanks for your help

@LV426 left...and I miss him

I know members come and go, but I'm saddened by the realization that @LV426 deleted his account.

I had noticed his absence, and was wondering if he was okay, then looked back at a private conversation we'd had in January and realized he was gone. Deleted.

Hey LV, if you happen to see this, you're missed around here! Your intelligent, insightful posts would be very welcome right now. Reconsider, maybe? :)

Google Lens screwed/stuck, need help

In order to have a “nice” background, let me first explain the scenario.

It’s is not uncommon for me, that my mom ask me for help because her phone is not working and when i give it a check i find a blackberry emulator installed, running a Solaris emulator WITHIN the blackberry emulation running a program for connecting to an infrared OBD2 scanner…. Yeah, that!

I ask her… WHAT IS THIS?
And she says: I don't know how that got there.

THAT is a very common scenario for me.

Now, my current problem:

I decided to show her how good google lens is, since sometimes she wants to translate something or just to find an object, so she don’t have to type, or to ask what is so she can google it, with google lens she just point at it and then decide what to do, if search for it, if translate it… whatever… but now she asked me for help because her google lens is not translating.

And I found this:

I did reinstall it, update it, restarting the phone, uninstalled recent apps… and nothing, the app is stuck in that view/mode

Battery Life Question

Well I've finally after 2 years had my first faulty battery. Had no clue why my Otter Box wouldn't fit for over a month. I just assumed I tore the clue part when I removed the Otter Box a month back. Anyways finally decided to Google and found out it was most likely caused by a bad swollen battery after seeing photos and where the back part of the phone was separating near the left side.

Got it replaced for $70 which was fine and now talking to the guy at the repair shop & looking online I was trying to figure out the best practice to not have this happen in another 2 years.

I've always left my phone on my Samsung wireless charger at all times, meaning it's always at 100% when at home. When I'm travelling, I'm always using the Samsung adapter to keep my phone topped off at pubs or the hotel as well. Not to mention, there have been times in the Summer for the past 3 Summers where I've sat outside in the sun playing music on my phone in direct sunlight (oooops).

My question though is I'm finding a million different answers about how the best way to charge the phone is. The only thing that seems to be consistent from all the different sources of websites is don't drain it down to 0% (which I never have). Some say always keep it between 20% and 80% and don't go under or over, others say it's fine to leave it on your Samsung official fast charger at home since it's built not to over charge and generate as much heat, others say just keep it around 50% at all times and so many other things.

From very experienced smart phone users, what is the method people use? I have an S9, but think it might apply to other phones as well. Just curious how I should now alter my charging habits and confused as to what really is the best way?

Unable to succesfully restore backups on Oneplus 6

I am having an issue with TWRP 3.3.1-18 at the moment and wonder what I am doing wrong. I backed up my Oneplus 6 in February then the phone offered my a system updat at the weekend which I accepted. I later went to use Titanium backup then realised I had lost roots rights due to the update so I reflashed (TWRP if I remember) and Magisk, however the phone got stuck in the bootloop where 2 white dots were spinning around a red circle. After searching and trying one thing after another I resolved it by using the msm download tool. Onto the TWRP issue. After the phone was recovered and all the updates to Android 10 was accepted and bootloader unlocked, TWRP and Magisk 20.5 flashed, I restored my February backup which is possibly Android 9. When I rebooted I was then in a fastboot loop. I again restored using the MSM tool and tried again, the same happened. The next time I first backed up the new Android 10 system after the update then tried to restore the February backup one last time (cleared the dalvik and factory reset) but had the same issue so after restoring one more time I instead tried to restore the new nandroid backup and have the same issues. Can anyone suggest why this is happening with my TWRP backups?

Help Issues In Toyota CHR 2019

Hello everyone I'm new here and my name is Maxim,

I will describe my issue and if anyone has ideas of what to do next to fix it, it will be much appreciated.
I have Toyota CH-R 2019 and 9" infotainment system inside, It comes without android auto nor apple carplay.
BUT part of options was to install into that empty old system an android system (5.1.1) which uses the second speaker (not the main speakers but a small one under the wheel) to give navigation sound when using apps like google maps.
I manged to get to the android settings and change the lanucher and install many apps that I like like youtube music, youtube & more.
The issue
When playing music in youtube it plays through the speaker under the wheel and it's baseless and feels old. I need to manage somehow to connect to the car's main speaker system (bluetooth) and then play the music and it should play the music (through bluetooth) the issue is that when I put my main system (not android system) to bluetooth pairing mode and then switiching to the android system it closes the settings and I cannot find the car's bluetooth ID in android bluetooth pairing search. I tried to do this process faster and managed to semi-connect, the next issue is confirming that the password showing is correct (In android). I am stuck here and didn't manage to go past this step, If anyone has any idea of app that can do this connection automatiaclly or something else please tell me, it will make me very happy.
