No 4G only H+

My wife and I both have Galaxy S8 phones using the Three Mobile UK network. Until a few days ago
we have not had any non-minor problems with either phones.

We have just returned from an overseas holiday and made use of the Three Mobiles facility to use our free minutes and free data whilst in several overseas countries. We had no problem using the phones to peak to family at home or to use internet access.

We returned home on Monday but ever since returning we have been unable to fully use the phones as it is always connected to the network via H+ and not 4G.

Under settings/about phone/status/sim card status I am informed that the phone is on 3, it is connected to the mobile network, it is in service, signal strength is -89 dBm, mobile voice network is UMTS and mobile data network is HSUPA.

Under settings/connection/mobile networks I find that VoLTE calls are on, Network mode is selected from LTE/3G/2G/Auto and that the carrier is 3.

Why can I not get 4G as I used to before I went on holiday?

Many thanks and best wishes to you all - take care

Listening for SMS , even the app is closed or exit in Android O

Hi All ,

I'm developing an app where I would listen / read the incoming SMS and display notification. When the app is in foreground , I'm able to do that. But I would have to monitor the incoming SMS when the app is not running.

I tried the Service , Intent service etc. all works fine when the app is in foreground but not when app is not running. Also before Android O , it was possible to run the services even when the app is killed or exit. But in Android O due limitations we are not allowed to keep services running .

Is there any way to do this ?

Please suggest how to do that.

Compass in the Samsung S20 Ultra not working

Has anyone else noticed their compass not working on their Samsung Galaxy S20 phones??

Mine just goes entirely unresponsive. So, for example, Google maps can no longer tell which direction I am facing. I've also tested in several other (non-Google) apps. None of them can use the compass once it stops working.

Oddly enough, it starts working immediately after a phone restart (I've tested this several times now). But then stops working again after a certain amount of phone idle time. This makes me think its NOT hardware related (i.e. since the sensor can work perfectly at times). But perhaps a software issue, e.g. a driver problem?

I've attached screen shots of an App called "Accurate Compass" because it allows me to check the status of the magnetometer. When it stops working, it just completely goes unresponsive. The first image shows it working perfectly well immediately after the phone has restarted. The second image occurs after the phone has sat idle for a certain amount of time (I don't know exactly how long it takes to stop working, but I am trying to test this).

HELP: Redmi Note 8 not switching on after a complete battery drain.

Not even a week after purchasing this phone, I was out of my house and there was no means of charging my phone as the bank had drained too, my phone's battery completely drained and now when I tried to charge it, it always stays in one black screen with a charging bolt icon in the middle of the screen.
I tried going into recovery mode but it doesn't work the only thing closest to working was fastboot as it showed up for 2 secs and then was gone and I was stuck at the same charging bolt icon screen again. It's been 1 hour since I put my phone on charge and nothing is happening, it's not even showing my battery level just stuck at the bolt sign

Avast Mobile Security Review

Avast Mobile Security costs and what's covered
Avast Mobile Security remains a freemium app, with a fairly feature-rich free tier and the option to drop the ads and unlock the premium features in the "Pro" tier for either $2.99 a month or $11.88 a year. This is a slight price bump from the last time I reviewed the app, but it is still one of the least expensive paid Android antivirus options on the market.

Doing away with the ads is perhaps the most valuable piece of the Pro tier, but the anti-theft tools, app locking and tech support from Avast are all nice to have as well.
Users looking for an integrated VPN solution can bump up to the "Ultimate" tier for $23.88 yearly or $8.49 a month to use Avast's SecureLine VPN service. To add PC and macOS support for both the VPN and the antivirus software, you need to opt for the "Ultimate-Multi" plan, which costs $59.99 yearly or $27.99 (yes, that's right) monthly.
Malware protection
Avast also makes antivirus software for Windows and Mac, both free and paid. To check out the best options on either platform, please see our pages on the best Mac antivirus software and the best antivirus software overall.
Avast continues to make malware scanning the focus of its app with the big green "Scan" button. While it isn't going to win any speed records, the full scan took between 26 and 32 seconds, rather than the 45 to 60 that it spent churning away during my last review of the app.
You can still schedule your scans for any time and any day of the week, so there's no reason for you to ever see an active scan during waking hours.
Avast's Web Shield held up well in the supported browsers that I had installed – Chrome, Opera, Firefox and Dolphin – and managed to detect and block links from known malicious sites.
Malware detection
Avast Mobile Security achieved perfect results in German independent lab AV-TEST's evaluations of Android security products conducted in July 2019. The app detected 100% of the 3,347 "real-time" malware threats used, and 100% of the 3,433 samples that had been uncovered in the previous four weeks.
MORE: The 10 Best Android Phones
This puts Avast well ahead of the industry averages for this round of testing, which were 96.8% of real-time, and 97.6% of recently uncovered, threats. Those averages were dragged down by the abysmal performance of Google Play Protect. But even with that outlier eliminated, Avast was still ahead of the pack.

Help Screen Mirroring

Hi. This procedure (https://fossbytes.com/android-screen-mirroring-apps-pc/) for enabling Screen Mirroring seems a little kludgy and invasive (for lack of a better word) for someone who is not an Android developer (though I am no stranger to programming). Is the the only, or best, way to mirror my Android 8 tablet to a Windows 10 PC by enabling Developer options and USB Debugging? I need this to do this so that I can teach during the coronavirus sorta-lockdown.

I'm trying to mirror an Android 9 tablet with Build number PPR1.180610.011 release-keys.
Receiver will be a Win 10 Home, Version 10.0.418362 Build 18362.

Thanks.

Need help

So i tried to root my tablet and it powered off and now it won't turn and it displays a warning sign and say "Custom binary blocked by FRP" in white letters at the top and then below it "Secure fail: KERNEL" and it won't let me turn it on i tried doing the odin thing but it doesn't work because whenever i plug in my tablet to the computer it doesn't recognize it anybody has a solution for this

Airpods not a good fit

I use airpods quite heavily for work meetings and calls. Coming from an iPhone... They're just not good enough on the pixel 3a. Ear detection etc just doesn't work well enough for me to rely on them. Would the google buds be a similar experience? Most online reviews I see indicate airpods working great but this just isn't the case and I am worried that any Bluetooth headset without dedicated chip support on the phone will be there same.
