Constant beep beep-beep-bee-beep-beep

I just got this Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and got it all set up how I like it. However, it keeps doing something I don't understand. When I'm doing nothing with the phone, it keeps beeping like "beep beep-beep-beeeeee-beep-beep." I swipe down to see if it's some kind of notification. There are a bunch of Youtube notifications of new videos and one notification about my Internet service, but I don't see these changing each time it does that beep sequence. It just keeps doing it.

Is this beep sequence part of notifications? If so, can I choose what I want to beep and what not to beep? I would rather that Youtube notifications show up as a banner, but not beep for me. They're really not so urgent. However, I'm fine with text messages beeping as I don't really get that many those. I only use texting occasionally.

All that is cool! But what about Energy Ring consuming Battery?!

This is one of the most exciting question for me to answer. Energy Ring more than anything understands that you need to utilize your battery efficiently (after all, that's why you installed the App, right? ;) .) Energy Ring sits on the screen silently putting almost 0% load on CPU, if battery level changes, Android wakes up Energy Ring. Once awake, Energy Ring quickly updates itself and goes back to sleep. And to be that extra efficient, the Ring goes on deep sleep when you turn off the screen, meaning it doesn't even read changes in battery level when the screen is off.

Notification Access requirement:
Energy Ring does not read any Notification whatsoever, it merely relies on it to be alive. Be assured that the App does NOT access anything.

Messaging App attachments not working

I'm on Android 9.0. In the main page, messages say "New message available fo..." and when I tap "Tap to download" It just spins and spins and never downloads. I'm almost sure I've tried everything I could find on the internet about fixing this issue. Any idea why this doesn't work? Sending a picture message to myself doesn't work either, gets stuck on "Sending...". Regular messages seem to work fine.
I made sure my APN settings are correct (I had to manually input everything to get my service working). I've tried clearing cache for the app. Tried fooling around with app settings regarding downloading attachments. I'm out of ideas.
Thanks!

Vpn on galaxy s20

I use expressvpn. Have for some time. Use it on my galaxy s8plus, along with other devices. When I upgraded to the s20 a problem arose after installing 3xpressvpn onto device. I can no longer use network auto connect feature on VPN without enabling the location setting on my s20. This seems really dumb for something that is all about privacy (vpn).

I asked about this else where didn't get much help. Someone it has something to do with libraries and location in settings on Android 10 devices.

Is there a way i can enable auto connect on my s20 using expressvpn and not have location on?

Here's a picture I get when opening the app if location is off on my phone.

Apps How should I do that?

Hello, I am new here and I would want to start creating some simple android applications. The first task I have to do is to create an app like that:
jA0zOwQ.png

where for each of those persons (that are taken from a database), it should open a new small window or a dropdown box (under the name) with the person's photo, e-mail, phone number, etc.
Also, the list with the names should be automatically sorted in alphabetical order and the users should be allowed to search for a specific person, by typing his/her name.
Could you tell me how I should begin? Which are the first steps? Or could I find a tutorial that teaches how to build some similar application?

Headphone Jack?

Hi All,

I tried my headphone jack today, actually tried it using a stereo mini-jack cable connected to a Bose Wave's aux input. Same cable as used on computer sound cards. Did this because the Bose aux port quit working and was wanting to see if it was the other device or the Bose. The fit in the phone was very sloppy and the phone speaker did not "mute" when the cable was plugged in. No sound from the Bose, but that could be the sloppy cable fit.

So, is the socket on the LG6 "special" or is it designed for a standard stereo headphone/cable?

TIA!

Russ

Are Xenon / Ryzen class PC build SKUs better at multi-debugging scenarios?

I write code that runs both on applications running in emulators, as well as code that runs docker images locally.

I debug both code bases at the same time, since I'm testing scenarios such as "what did App sent to server? What did the server process? What was sent back?"

For that, I've had a build that runs Android Emulator + IntelliJ IDE debugging the app + another IntelliJ IDE debugging a dockerized Kotlin react server + chrome providing real-time debug logs in between.

At worst, when debugging both scenarios i'm clocking at 90% my total CPU count (it's an i7), with about 14 gigs of RAM usage (I have 16).

So this got me thinking. since I have multiple processes running (the 2 IDEs, the Emulator VM, the docker image + Chrome + whatever remote debugging processes that trigger) if a CPU with high number of cores + tons of RAM would help out.

This led me to start thinking about switching from an i7 to a Xenon / Ryzen / threadripper class SKU, while expanding my RAM to 64.

So before I sink A TON of money on this - I was wondering if anyone out there in the Stackflow community faced similar dilemmas and resolved similarly as well.

In essence, are Xenon / Ryzen style processors BETTER at simultaneous debugging scenarios?

Thanks

2 different problems, though likely related.

More like three, but in the beginning it didn't seem like such a big deal. I'd be doing just about anything... scrolling FB, reading an email, browsing a website and my screen would turn black, not timeout but just go black. I would then hit the back button and normally it would turn back to whatever screen I'd been looking at. Sort of like when you go to a link on FB and the link doesn't work so it reverts back to the main page. It was annoying, and I knew it was a bug of some kind but one I decided to live with out of laziness, more than anything.
Then after the last update the secondary issue arose, which in my mind was an offshoot of the old issue but on a much grander scale. Instead of turning black and being able to resume, it just started going black and more or less turning itself off. Or it seems that way. The screen generally goes black and then when it restarts I'm at the main home screen just as I would be on a restart. (It doesn't always go black however. Sometimes it merely reverts to the homescreen, normally after it locks up for several seconds in whatever app or page I was on and then shows where it is restarting everything it normally does after powering up.) This happens sometimes up to 10 times a day at it's worst.
The third thing it does which I feel may be related is it started reporting it wasn't reading my SD card or was reporting that it simply wasn't there at all. I normally noticed this when I'd look at an app that was on it only to discover I wasn't able to open the app as the SD card acted as though it wasn't installed. Generally a restart fixed this trouble but it keeps happening.

Hello to everyone in this forum,
i'm new to android-development and i have a question:

i'm trying to create a rounded button,i found a tutorial that descibles the android:background attribute for the Button element for the layout files. So i created the buttonshape.xml in the drawables folder and have the following layout file:
Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:orientation="vertical">

    <ScrollView
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <LinearLayout
        android:orientation="horizontal"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:padding="5dp">

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/date_from_button"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:onClick="onButtonDateFrom"
            android:background="@drawable/buttonshape"
            android:text="@string/datum_from_button" />

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/date_to_button"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:onClick="onButtonDateTo"
            android:text="@string/datum_to_button" />

    </LinearLayout>

    <DatePicker
        android:layout_gravity="center"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:visibility="gone"/>

    <LinearLayout
        android:orientation="horizontal"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content">

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/time_from_button"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:onClick="onButtonTimeFrom"
            android:text="@string/time_from_button" />

        <Button
            android:id="@+id/time_to_button"
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:layout_weight="1"
            android:onClick="onButtonTimeTo"
            android:text="@string/time_to_button" />

    </LinearLayout>

    <DatePicker
        android:layout_gravity="center"
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:visibility="gone"/>

    <FrameLayout
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="match_parent">

        <Button
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="@string/search_start"
            android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal"/>

        <Button
            android:layout_width="match_parent"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="@string/search_start"/>

    </FrameLayout>
</ScrollView>
</LinearLayout>

Now my problem is that i'm not able to set a padding for the Button, no matter which attribute i set i get no padding and the app stops directly after starting it. Here is the code of the drawable/buttonshape.xml file:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<shape xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:shape="rectangle" >
    <corners
        android:radius="23dp"
        />
    <solid
        android:color="#FF0000"
        />
    <stroke
        android:width="2dp"
        android:color="#878787"
        />

    <padding
        android:left="5dp"
        android:top="5dp"
        android:right="5dp"
        android:bottom="5dp"
        />
</shape>
I don't understand what i'm doing wrong so the app isn't even starting... but i get no errors when building it... please help a lost soul.

best regards,
workbench

Apps TextView or ImageView

Very new to Android Studio and I'm creating an app that will display text of varying length with a parchment background.
My issue is TextView does not offer a sort of truncate or crop function and a single line entry will look very different from a six line entry.
ImageView, as far as I know, doesn't offer a way to enter text.
Am I wrong about any of this or is there something I'm missing?
