Help Get around lock screen, can't even turn phone off

Hi all,
I know, there's hundreds of threads about what to do if you have forgotten your lock screen pattern. Two days ago, I tried to log in from lock screen via the pattern, it didn't work, so I picked the phone up and used the fingerprint again, thinking "at some point in time I'll need to fix this". Today in the morning it didn't accept my fingerprint anymore but asked for the pattern, since then I've restarted several times (holding power and volume down at the same time).
The thing is: The pattern is most certainly correct. I've been using it for three months now, and although I've turned off my phone more than two weeks ago or so, I occasionally use it when I can't pick the phone up (fingerprint reader at the back).

What I tried until now:
-Samsung Find my mobile (can login and do certain things, but I haven't set up remote control to unlock)
-Android Device Manager (no connection possible)
-restart

My frustration:
I have my google account, my samsung account, my fingerprint, my home bluetooth device (as in, no unlock needed if connected; I can't switch on bluetooth on though, I'm being asked for the pattern), I'm in my home wifi (although it's just a regular wifi in my phone)... all of this is worthless when I mess up the pattern? And could this be a software problem or am I messing up my code?
And I can't even switch off my phone, I need to enter the pattern - how could I enter recovery mode, then?

Btw: I don't have the bootloader unlocked, no ADB possible.

Converting Blob to String in Android Room

I'm having trouble finding information on how to resolve an issue with reading file BLOB data with Android Room.

The Problem:
In the database there are 11 tables and one table called Files handles file attachments. There are 3 fields, FileID, Filename, FileData. FileData is the BLOB or byte data stored to build the file. The file can be anything, a picture, text file, Word, Excel, just about anything.

What I've tried:
I can't seem to find, if it exists, how I would setup my entity class to manage this field data. I searched on stackoverflow and developer.android.com but haven't discovered anything helpful yet. I did see that there is a method called getBlob() (https://developer.android.com/reference/android/database/Cursor.html#getBlob(int)) but this is related to the Cursor method, which Android Room handles all the Cursors.

I'm not sure where to go from here, so I was hoping someone may have had the same issue or knew how you would setup your Room code (e.g. Entities, etc) to manage this file data.

Smartphones make us Fat, Lazy, Horny, Bankrupt Druggies

I was listening in on a Twitter debate surrounding what Silicon Valley calls "Dopamine Fasting 2.0"- the average person calls it "life balance". The idea is that many compulsive and obsessive behaviors that you wish you could stop are instigated and promoted by excessive use of smartphones and other digital technology. Having a set schedule or plan to limit your time or interaction with these devices can improve your own perception of your life, assumingly leading to greater happiness.

The original article on the subject identifies the most common behavioral addictions targeted by "Dopamine Fasting":
  1. Emotional Eating (Fat)
  2. Internet/Gaming (Lazy)
  3. Porn/Masturbation (Horny)
  4. Gambling/Shopping (Bankrupt)
  5. Thrill/Novelty Seeking (Cheap)
  6. Recreational Drugs (Druggies)
The whole "Dopamine" debate took center stage when Congress pestered Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg about rigging the Facebook news feed algorithm to maximize dopamine output back in 2018. It's now 2020... what's changed?

That's a great question and I'm not sure there is a correct answer, so I pose the questions to you:
  • Do you feel "smartphone addiction" is a real thing?
  • Do you find yourself addicted to any degree?
  • Can you get behind the science of "Dopamine Fasting"?
  • What are your plans in 2020 to pursue digital balance?

Application runs fast on smartphone but slow on tablet

Hello,
My team and I have developped an augmented reality application that uses native c++ libraries, it works well on multiple smartphones (xiaomi, samsumng, huawei, custom industrial android phones), but when it comes to tablet, the activity that contains the frames acquisition and manipulation runs slow.

We have tried on multiple table, the specs of the first ones weren't that great (under 2Gb ram, 4 cores below 1.7ghz and armeabi-v7a), but then we bought a tablet that has the same, or even better specs than the previously tested smartphones ( Lenovo M10+, with 4Gb ram, Octo core 2.3Ghz, armeabi-v8a), but the speed issue remains.

The code uses some shared libraries compiled for the specific architectures (opencv, ceres-solver), and the optimisation is set in the manifest.
FYI, android developpement isn't our strong suit.
Do you have any idea to why an app can be fast on smartphones but not on tablet ?

Thanks in advance.

Help How to delete some files on unbootable phone with low memory?

I had been ignoring low memory on my android phone (Nexus 6P running copperhead OS) for some time.

OS suddenly crashed out of no where and started booting up infinitely. After forcing it to restart and entering the password for decryption, phone never finishes the boot procedure. Seems that due to zero or very less space, some error must be occurring, which doesn't let the OS finish the boot procedure.

It's my assumption that low memory could have been the issue, so trying to find a way to delete files and let OS have some space to boot up.

(1) Bootloader is locked. I can see "Device is LOCKED." at bootloader screen. So, unable to boot latest TWRP via fastboot boot twrp.img. Receiving error FAILED (remote: unlock device to use this command)

(2) ADB sideload option available in copperhead OS recovery doesn't allow any random update.zip. Tried to run an updater script but it fails. It seems that recovery is validating the package. Errors are E: footer is wrong, E: Signature verification failed, E:error: 21 Installation aborted

(3) Tried to find some vulnerabilities which let bypass security features, but didn't find any except this which has been fixed in bootloader angler-03.79 being used. (https://securityintelligence.com/android-vulnerabilities-attacking-nexus-6-and-6p-custom-boot-modes/)

(4) Phone is running an old android OS : 8.1.0 June 2018 AOSP build, and since then there could be security vulnerabilities being introduced. So are there any vulnerabilities or exploits which can be helpful here?

Android app backend

I am a complete beginner at mobile app development so please bear with me.

I am trying to create an app that is a localized social network. I have a handle on UI and Mvvm architecture, Livedata and other Android concepts. What I keep doubting myself about is the getting the backend right for scalability and performance.

Here is a run down on some of the features I will have:
Finding nearby users
Chatting with them
Creating profiles
Able to create events and share it with others

Right now I am using firebase but have concerns with updating my data structure and losing user data. My number 1 concern is losing data while I change my app over time.

I have read a bunch of articles about app backends and none of them really cleared it up. Can I take a course or something to get a good understanding on how to choose the right database? Please help.

Unity Build shows Black/Gray gradient

I've been fighting this for a few days now. When I install my .apk and open it I'm presented with a simple gradient. I recreated a brand new project and everything works fine. I was hoping the logs would help me out but all I see is the following outputs over and over again.

Factory reset block?

I had a Samsung s4 in the past that I had suspected of having spyware installed on it. Later finding out that in fact that was the case. I was able to escape this behavior with a package manager and factory reset option. Shortly after I lost the ability on my device to perform a factory reset through settings or through a hard reset. Even my ability to reset my device through lock and ring had been taken away.
My question is how was this possible to block my ability to reset? Was it through our carrier or through samsung account or hidden google account or a app? I have always wondered about this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

S10 for upgrade

Hello, been researching for an upgrade for my wife and myself. My wife has had the Moto G6 so huge upgrade and for me with s8 the same. For those of you who watch video is the s10 larger than the s8, wanted the note s9 for the video viewing size, however for the price got to go with s10 for camera. Is the screen well large enough for good video viewing?
One last question, the camera seems to be awesome from s8, with the small sensor on camera and the photo quality how large would you be able to make a photo for wall that would look good/great?

Android 10, Good & Bad

According to many internet websites, LG has announced which phones will be getting Android 10. The good news is our LG V40 is on the list. :D The bad is the update is scheduled for the 3rd quarter of this year.:saddroid:
One of the websites is GSMArena at:
https://www.google.com/url?rct=j&sa...bjpVUw&usg=AFQjCNEBCM6Lqtbv7Xk5o2bmJEbydSsL4A.
However, all the websites say the same thing. Remember, patience is a virtue.
