Recently when I get a text from certain individuals it just says the number not the name or the picture attached to them? Why would it change?

I want to be able to draw something, and the first step is to be able to set the color of a pixel? Once I can do that, I can set the color of all pixels as needed. First I need a control that supports drawing though. I've tried the ImageView and SurfaceView controls, and coded everything to work to set the color of a pixel. But it doesn't work. It seems that setting a pixel's color doesn't actually update the screen. So the pixel remains the same color on the screen. I need to know how to do this properly. Is there a way to force the screen to refresh and display the changed pixel color?

One of the most important things in an app, is to be able to draw to the screen, especially if you want to display custom graphics or even write an image-editor app. It seems like such a basic concept to read or write the value of a pixel, but in Android it seems like an almost impossible task.

We have an Android app, that supports clicking pics using Camera only and not gallery. However certain 3rd party apps like Gallery Cam or Fake Camera apps, prevent this from happening by modifying the source of camera control from camera to gallery, so the user is able to choose pic from gallery. This defeats the purpose of the app. Looking for suggestions to prevent the same by prompting the user if the pic is not captured from the camera

My phone has recently undergone the latest software update 1-3 weeks ago. I noticed now after update my screenshot images are clear in my gallery, but compressed & terribly blurry when sent in text messages. Keep in mind, it did not have this issue before update. Anyone seen this or have a solution?

I have problems sending & receiving calls on my cell phone from inside my home (Aluminum siding exterior). Things are fine outside and in other buildings. My carrier says that nothing can be done from their end.

Someone suggested that using ‘wifi calling’ (with my present phone #) on my home’s wireless network while indoors as a possible solution. Can this be used for this purpose? If so, how? I do not see the settings on my phone to enable it.

I'm not sure this is the correct section of the forum for this thread. Please accept my apologies if it isn't.

I have a recent problem for which I can't find a solution:
(ZTE Maven Z-812 Android 5.1 phone)

I noticed some apps disappeared from the phone (completely). They were SD card apps only.

While investigating, I found that the File Manager app says there is "No User Data stored on the phone." and "No SD Card".
But, I can take the SD card out and connect it to my computer and all the files for the missing apps (and my other SD card files) are present. So this tells me that the SD card is OK, but the phone or the OS can't read it.

What caused this? Is there a prevention?

I just bought a phone capable of WiFi calling - Xperia XZ2 Compact. I have the $40 Simply Prepaid plan. I tried WiFi calling using the Digits app before I installed the SIM card and it worked fine. After installing the SIM, I can't get it to work.

Sony support guided me to the settings menu of the Phone app to see if WiFi calling appeared, and it does not. They said it doesn't appear when it is not provided by the carrier.

T-Mobile support said WiFi calling is not available with Prepay plans. However, their website says it does.

I just joined the forums here. I'm fairly technically knowledgeable but new to Android. I bought an Android tablet (Lenovo E10) a week or so ago, partly for the rest of the family including young children to use. I do not have a google (or facebook, twitter, ...) account and would prefer to stay away from them. What I'd like to do is set it up so the kids could play games, use educational apps, read epubs, all offline and without the ability to connect. So far I see where there are two means of setting up separate user accounts: through google (which I'd rather not do) and a Lenovo built-in mechanism they call a child account, which does some of what I want, but not quite all. For one thing I don't see a way to download and install an app as an apk, and then make it available within the child account. It looks like they have fixed lists of apps to choose from. Any suggestions? Do "launchers" have the ability to set up separate user accounts with different permissions?

Hi, I notice there are many apps that let you record phone conversations, but the ones I've tried wont work while I have headphones plugged in. I prefer phone conversation with headphones, so I can type or work while I chat. Are there any apps that have this functionality to them?

I had moved some selected apps to SDCard. Due to some network issue, I rebooted my phone and all those apps (those in the SD Card) have now greyed out. I cannot open them, clicking on it shows "app not installed". These apps really had my important data with them. Please help!

Hi, all. My GNote 9 will not display the notification in the notification bar for new voicemail. I have to check my voicemail each time I see a missed call to see if a voicemail was left. Highly annoying. I'm running Android Pie (version 9). The little # badge shows on the phone icon if I have a missed call, so some kind of notification is getting through.

Google searches point me to things that don't exist on my phone.

I've had this phone (S8+) for a couple of years now with zero issues until now. It takes about 10 minutes to start. I turn it on, the phone identifier shows up on the screen followed by the keypad to enter my PIN. After entering the PIN, the padlock icon shows up with the blue and green "buffering circle" spinning around it,which then freezes for approximately 5 minutes. The phone eventually goes black for a few seconds, then the padlock icon appears again, and the spinning circle around it freezes again. When that disappears after another 5 minutes I'm required to re-enter my PIN. The same padlock/spinning circle returns,but this time it usually turns on.

What gives with this?

So my friend texted me this morning asking why i said the word law. I deleted all of my texts awhile ago and haven't been in contact with this friend in awhile. So that was the first text i got from her. And me, confused, responded that i had no text on my side sent from me to her. And she said "you texted me the word law at 3:33am" mind you i was asleep at this time. And sure enough she showed me the text, which i never sent. Just the word: 'law' at 3:33am. I found it also weird that when i launched snapchat it opened and then quickly promoted me to sign in. My password was incorrect it said so i changed it and now im in again. Im not sure if there was any correlation there, but does anyone know what this could be?

This issue has been occurring for the entirety of my having my phone. When I open the default Google search app that is preinstalled on my phone and attempt to download an image by holding down on the image and selecting 'Download Image', the image says it is downloaded but in details it says there is no info or save root for the image so it disappears off my phone after I close it. Any ideas on how to maybe select a download folder for Google to save my images? This sole problem was the reason why I moved to Bing so I would like to figure out a fix and move back to Google.

noticed this recently .... not sure if it is the app used or maybe due to battery age etc

recently started using audible more often ... and have spotted that it seems to use more juice than i would have expected just having speaker working :/ .... think is more obvious if say the batt is at around 40% when i start listening

time for a batt replacement? .... or heavy use app :/

The default apps on the lock screen are Phone and Camera. You can use the Camera without unlocking with a pattern, pin, or password.

If I replace the Phone app on the lock screen with a different app, is there any way to set it up so that the new app will work without having to unlock it first?

I don't want to entirely disable the lock on my phone, so that's not an option I would want to use. I'm hoping there's a way to set it so that the new app will function like the Camera app, requiring no unlocking when opened from the lock screen.

I wish to know if it is possible to clone a physical Android device with all settings, apps and configuration to inject it on other Android devices such as an image of the device. And if it is possible, how can I do this ? My Android device is an Android 7.1 and I'm connecting it to an Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

Is there away to tell if you do NOT have a mobile signal from YOUR provider when the screen is unlocked.

I have looked & looked but is there now a way to only show the signal level bars for you own network & not any other network that it seems to pick up.

When screen is on but locked it is fine, Vodafone UK is on top left - I actually have to lock then turn on screen (still locked) to see if I have a connection which is crazy.

I can walk around looking at my phone and not realise that I have no signal.

I have asked many times over perhaps 5 or more years on my many Samsung phones (or any android)
but never had an answer, amazed others are not as equally frustrated, perhaps not in the UK where I live where 20% (or worse) of the land mass is not covered

I would prefer just for the notification bars to drop or have a line through but these show any network connection so if next to EE mast but no VF signal still full bars, which again is crazy, handy for emergency services I guess but 99.9% of time don't need to know that.

I would even be happy to have Vodafone UK taking up screen space, better than nothing.

Due to the rubbish UK network I spend quite a lot of time out of range of my provider but at a glance I see the bars & think perhaps I have a signal.

Hi, I would love to find a way to prevent my app from 'Gallery Cam' app, the issue is when i am opening the Camera intent it is asking me to open camera or choose image from gallery, but i want my user should always capture the image and not to choose image from gallery.

So I get a text from my friend asking if I was ok and on her end she received texts asking if I should say I'm dead so obviously that would strike anyone as concerning especially when it's 4 am my time and she's in a different country and I haven't spoken to her in months... I did send the texts before by looking up the phrases but that was in a convo in February and there's no way I accidentally scheduled BOTH of them to send because it doesn't give months out options unless I manually type it in. I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow but it's currently 4 am and I'm so creeped out and wondering if anyone else has had this issue? It's not like my phone is hacked because I have said those exact phrases before? I have a Moto z3

I have Galaxy S8, SM-6950F

The problem is I cannot change the mobile hotspot band from 2.4GHZ to 5GHZ, because the band setting simply doesn't exist under hotspot, although this should be available for the S8. Now I have googled this issue a bit and found other people with the same problem, but I have yet to find a solution or a final answer if anything can or cannot be done to fix this.

In the hotspot settings, where there should be a possibility to change the settings, the only thing I can change is network name, WPA, password and PMF.
It's really frustrating since one of the main things I use my phone for is hosting hotspot for my laptop.
Some pople were saying it's a regional thing, this phone was bought in Estonia, no idea where it originally came from.
If anyone has an idea how to get access to 5Ghz I would be forever thankful. Or even confirm that it cannot be done, that would help aswell
