android sdk location should not contain whitespaces

Hi,

For my unity project I need a higher sdk. When I want to change it in android studio (settings -> andriod SDK) I get the message:
"android sdk location should not contain whitespaces"

The location is: "Program files" with whitespaces
C:\Program Files\Unity\Hub\Editor\2021.3.24f1\Editor\Data\PlaybackEngines\AndroidPlayer\SDK

What I try:
- I can't rename the map because it cause a lot of issues
- I fill: c:\progra~1\Unity\Hub\Editor\2021.3.24f1\Editor\Data\PlaybackEngines\AndroidPlayer\SDK
but it doesn't work, I cant select this directory

In android studio I have android api 33 at the directory:
C:\Users\werne\AppData\Local\Android\Sdk
It doesn't work when I fill this location in Unity.

Anyone a idea?

Get phone to ring only via Bluetooth

I have a Samsung A52 which I use to stream to either my car audio/phone or my hearing aids. When I'm connected to one of these Bluetooth devices, I want the phone to ring ONLY via Bluetooth, not the phone speaker. This works fine in my car, but when the phone rings I hear it through the hearing aids and I hear the phone's ringtone from the phone speaker. I need to stop this for when I'm in public places where a ringtone would be a problem. Is there an easy way to do this? I can't find anything in the phone's settings. I can get it to work by lowering the phone volume to zero but I don't always remember to do it. I'd like it to happen by default.
When I don't have a Bluetooth connection, I'd want the phone to ring through its speaker. Thanks.

Disable silent mode completly

Hi experts,

I have a question for you. My son is unfortunately suffering from Diabetes Type 1, and he has a monitoring sensor on his body to measure his glucose levels. If it drops too low, we get an alarm. It's an app which is installed on my phone, my wife's phone and his. This works rather well.

However, he is a very stubborn teenager... He refuses to put his phone on loud or on 'do not disturb', he always puts it on "silent/vibrate" mode. So if he gets an alarm at night, my phone gives me a very loud alert, so I can wake him up and give him his needed medicine... But he doesn't get the alert, which is already quite annoying. HOWEVER, when he is at school, we also get those alerts, but there is NO WAY WE CAN REACH HIM! You would think it is as simple as simply putting on the "do not disturb" mode, but he keeps on refusing to do so, because he is ashamed. It seems like he would rather go into a coma... One day he will understand the urgency, but for now he keeps on being stubborn.

So, my question for you guys, is there a way (perhaps in rooting?) that I can make the alerts from this specific app keep coming through, even though he puts his phone on silent mode? Or, alternatively, can I disable the silent mode on his phone, so that he is forced to use the do-not-disturb mode? I have no experience in rooting, but I do have some IT experience. So I'm not looking for answers like "it's his own problem" or "just use do-not-disturb".. :-)

Thank you guys for your help!

Bubble sound while texting

For several months now when I start a text conversation the response from the other party comes through with a sort of bubble sound. No loud audible notification sound as before. Unless I'm literally holding the phone I can't hear the response. I'm constantly missing responses. It will go back to the audible when there has been a certain amount of time with no activity. So aggravating! Please don't tell me to go to notification sounds. That's not the problem. The sound I chose is there just not during a text thread.

Multiple apps stuck on loading when entering account details

I have a Samsung Galaxy A11 running Android 12, nearly 3 years old.

A while ago I installed an app (rova, a New Zealand radio app). It got me to register with email, etc, and all worked fine. However, several months later the app began acting up; e.g. being stuck showing a loading indicator on the opening screen. Clearing the apps data and trying again allowed it to load straight away, but then the app kept hanging during the sign in/registration steps. I would try reregistering; enter my email, push submit, indefinite pause with loading spinner. Close app, reopen, this time get past email but fill in some more fields, indefinite pause. The app wouldn't hang as such - I could press the back button to go back a step - just show loading and not move on. Eventually I figured out that if I leave it for around 10-15 minutes it would progress and I'd finally get in to use it. But the next day, same thing. I put it down to a buggy app and moved on.

Yesterday I installed a different app (Tend, another NZ app for healthcare) and have been experiencing identical issues - enter email; loading... quit, try again, get past that to enter a phone number, loading... quit, try again, app stuck on intro screen... etc.

It feels like the phone is hanging reading or writing from storage as clearing the app's cache/data always lets me straight in again, but I haven't been able to get through the entire registration process.

I have tried clearing My Files data, removing unused apps (plenty of storage space available), reinstalling the app(s), rebooting the phone, and lastly wiping the cache partition.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I am a web developer - no knowledge of Android at all, but in the sense that when there is an issue I like to debug it, but I have no idea how to even find out what the phone is trying to do while it's loading.

Factory reset is of course a last resort but I'm hoping there are other steps to try first..

Issues with Google deleting contacts and their recovery [Xiaomi Mi A2] [Android 10]

Ok so on aforementioned Xiaomi Mi A2 (meaning "clean" Android, as in the same thing that's in Pixels) I have ran into an issue:

In an attempt to backup contacts and transfer them over to new phone, I have done 2 things:
  • Exported contact list as .vcf file
  • Created new google account
However, I've ran into problems,
  1. The .vcf file reads as having 0 B file size, can not be opened as well as imported.
  2. After logging in via the newly created Google accounts, all my contacts seem to be gone.
Well, partially: I can see them in the "last called" (Phone) app but not in contacts and they do not show up when someone is trying to call the phone.
Any possible advice on what I should try? I'm desperate at this point.
I have tried:
  • Opening the .vcf file elsewhere
  • Using the option to "Revert 30 days back" in the contacts menu
  • Logging out of the Google account
I'm mainly trying to recover the contact data.

Bandwidth throttle app?

So, I'm trying to save money. I one thing I'm doing is trying to get my phone bill down. I just switched from an at&t unlimited plan costing me like $150 a month to a new company called red pocket that works off of at&t's network and I'm now paying $10 a month. I am setup on a plan with unlimited talk and text but I only get 1 GB of high speed data and then unlimited slower data. I seriously used up the 1 GB my first month during the few minutes I was setting up the phone. The slower data is basically useless. Nothing works. Most places I go, I have wifi. But, not everywhere.

I was wondering if there was an app that I could throttle all of the apps on my phone. Maybe I could allot more bandwidth for certain apps. My phone isn't rooted and I dont think I can root it. But, I was thinking if there was an app that setup a local vpn and forced all of my traffic through it and then could throttle the apps, seems like it would be possible. But, I can't find an app like this... I see apps that will tell me the bandwidth used per app, but not one that would allow me to throttle the bandwidth per app. BTW, I have a Samsung S22 Ultra.

How to keep screen non responsive

My phone is becoming a nightmare. (Samsung M51) This morning during a 5k race my music stopped, the cadence I was listening to which was superimposed over the music stopped, and someone answered my phone and said thanks for calling. Is there no way to keep the phone non responsive until I press the on/off button? I keep it in a pouch under my waistband and can't seem to keep it from responding to errant screen pressure.

All I want is for the screen to remain off (and unresponsive to any incidental touches) until I turn it on using the side button. It shouldn't be this hard.

This next paragraph is SOLVED.
Also, as of this morning, when I turn the display on, instead of it staying on, it goes off after about 5 seconds, even though I have always-on set. There is also some wallpaper shown that I can't get rid of. I don't want any wallpapers, but I can't seem to get rid of them. I get a "swipe to open" message. This happens every time I turn the screen off using the side button.

It seems that during my run this morning my lock screen type was changed from none to swipe.

[Game][Free] Trivia: Quiz game for Brain

Hi all! I was very interested in how much ChatGPT could make it easier to create a mobile application. This is a quiz app. I wanted the chat to help create content for the app. The neural network generated more than 8 thousand questions from different categories and translated them into different languages.

The game has the ability to play with multiple friends on the same phone. There is also an online mode.

There are sometimes small problems with questions. Sometimes they are repeated, sometimes they are incorrectly composed, etc. But the chat managed to handle a big chunk of the job. And the correction of questions can be provided to users. If the user sees an error in the question, they can submit a bug report in the question and write their own comment.

You can see for yourself what came out of all this in the end) Thank you!

1.43 inches is bigger than 40mm? ‍‍

I've got a Samsung Galaxy Active 2 watch 40mm.
I love it.
I hate it as well. The 1.5 day battery life winds me up.

So I got a Xiaomi Mi watch. It's supposed to be 1.43 inches on ebay.
OMG it's massive. It's GIGANTIC. Much bigger than my Samsung watch.

Then I asked Google. In 40mm is 1.57 inches.

What am I missing?

I can't keep the Xiaomi watch. It's too big.

But what other watch do I buy??
I need to figure out the sizing.

I'm looking for a good brand watch that will give me 2 weeks of battery.

I was thinking of the Huawei or Honor watches - but I suspect their sizes are equally big?

Thanks.

How to mute (but not block) calls from unknown numbers

I have a Galaxy A03s.

I don't answer calls from unknown numbers. I know how to block calls, but I limit that function to calls from unknown numbers that call more than once without leaving a voicemail message.

What I'd like to do in the case of all other unknown callers is simply mute them automatically. I figure that if a caller is legitimate, he'll leave a message and I can then call back. If the caller doesn't leave a message, then I'm content to consider the call unimportant. (I don't want to "block" all unknown numbers, because my understanding is that that stops such calls from coming through altogether, so the callers can't leave voicemail messages.)

But I can't find an automatic mute setting on my phone, and Googling the issue keeps turning up instructions on how to block calls, and not how to mute or silence them. The one site that I found that did talk about "silencing" instead of blocking calls directed me to a setting that I don't have on my phone -- it said to open the phone app and go to Settings | Call | Call Rejection, but I don't have a "Call" option in my phone settings.

Is it possible to automatically mute unknown callers? If so, how is it done?

Thanks.

Rooting and access data

Hi!

First of all sorry for my bad English. I'm leaning yet.

I have an Android device (MediaTek MT8163, Android 6.0.1) and there are data of application (DB). This user data can be read only under root user.
I decided rooting the device for access and have few questions:
1. Does the rooting erase all user data?
2. How can make a backup of user data including that data which are readable under a root user?
3. Can I access to this data without rooting the device? For example, on PC with Android emulator?
4. How to make a full backup of the device? For example, some image
5. How to restore backup if something wrong happens?

Thanks.

Why are there no 'well known' brand name smart light switches?

You can buy plenty of 'smart' light bulbs.

I have rooms where I've got 14 light bulbs in the ceiling.
This would be stoopidly expensive to get 'smart light bulbs' for each room.

No problem.
Get a 'smart light switch'?

PROBLEM: these don't exist.
They do exist... but not in ANY well known brand names.

Why is that??

The conspiracy theorist inside of me tell me it's far more profitable to make smart lightbulbs that need replacing every 2 years - so they don't make the switches smart - which might only get changed every 2 years.

Search Amazon and you'll find PLENTY of Chinese brands. Hmm... I don't want to risk getting something that might blow a fuse and spark a few surges.
