I have to change the output device on my Pixel 6 Pro every time I receive a call before I can hear it.

I have a Pixel 6 pro, and every time I receive a call, by default the output is set to "Phone", which it should be, but I can't hear anything. The only way I can get audio is to click on the audio output options (which gives me three options (Phone, Speaker, Galaxy Watch4 Classic), select either of the other options, then switch it back to phone and it will immediately start working.

Now you may think that it must be by default just connecting to my watch which is listed in the options (despite the fact that it displays "Phone" as the selected option). However, there is no audio coming out of my watch at that point. If I were to manually select my watch, then the call starts coming through on there (just as it would if I were to answer the call via my watch). But until I select another option, there is no sound coming out of anywhere, my phone, phone speaker, or watch.

Note, this doesn't seem to happen when I make calls, only when I receive them.
Equally, no other audio is affected in this way, when I'm watching videos or listening to podcasts or music, it plays through the phone speaker as standard unless I connect a bluetooth speaker or headphones, or manually select another output device.

It doesn't mean I can't receive calls, but does mean there's a frustrated period of a few seconds where I have to answer a call, switch the audio output, then switch it back again, before I can hear the other person, meaning I also miss the start of what they are saying.

Any thoughts on what it could be, I've had this for probably around 6 months.

My setup is as follows:
- Phone: Google Pixel 6 Pro
- Android version: 13
- Android security patch: 5th March 2013

If you're curious, my watch is the Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic (Z11L) SM-R880 running One UI 4.5, system version 11, and Wear OS version 3.5

Samsung Galaxy A14 5G

I need to buy a new cell phone. I’m considering the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G; it is at the extreme upper end of what I can reasonably afford. I have a very important requirement that is not mentioned in any specifications I have found; I don’t know if the feature is universal. It is that the phone produces a WiFi hotspot for internet access of another device, such as a notebook computer, and that it also allows tethering via USB for internet access.

I realize that the carrier contract must allow such use, that isn’t my concern. only that the phone must be capable of it in order to be useful to me. Is there any way to be sure before purchase?

An unrelated question
I see “One UI Core 5" in the specifications. What does that mean?

Help Girlfriend accidentally cleared WhatsApp chat

So my girlfriend accidently cleared our chat going back to October on her phone. Is there a way to export my chat with her back over to her? I exported my chat to her but I don't know what to do next.

Here's a screenshot of what comes up (plus a bunch of images from the chat excluded):

iMarkup_20230405_194625.jpg

I would like to fix this for her, because she lives in the UK and her and I are trying to get her US citizenship and the USCIS is going to want to see those chats as proof so while I have the originals on my phone, she doesn't aside from what I sent in the above image which I exported to her.

Any help or suggestions but be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Libby on Android

I have an older 4G smart phone that I had to give up using a little over two years ago because it isn’t LTE capable. It is an HTC One running Android 5.0.2. I have no direct internet access of course but I can connect the phone to WiFi.

I’ve been using if for some audio playback, using its built into the Android system audio player. It is easy to copy audio files to the phone and hassle free to play them. Now I want to play audio books borrowed from the library. This requires a special player, Libby, which comes only from the Google Play Store. I never before used the Play Store on this phone.

I started with the Play Store icon, then signed on, which appeared to work. There is no longer any requirement for entering ID or password and, as far as I can see, there is no option to sign out. Right after I signed on there was a message across the top of the screen saying something like “unable to access Play Store content”. It has not been repeated.

What I get now is a blank screen except for a search dialogue across the top. I’m not certain if it is part of Play Store or just some search engine for the web. When I key in Libby I get a list of several Libby software things, all of which may be for the same library program. If I select any of them, the system goes into perpetual busy state with an arrow head snake chasing it tail in a circle. Maybe if I waited long enough it would time out but so far I haven’t had the extreme patience necessary for that.

The above procedure works as expected on my current, connected phone.

What occurs to me is that Play Store has since been updated and will no longer work on such an old version of Android or maybe with such an old version of the Play Store program. I find no way to update the Play Store program and, for certain, there is no HTC Android update for the phone.

Are there any other possibilities, in particular ones that might work on this phone?
Am I correct in believing there is no such thing as a generic Android system that might be used to update the Phone’s OS?

Airline Delays

There's has been a few news articles about airline delays due to a staff and pilot shortages. Didn't think much about it.

My wife book a flight a month ago with United. Going from Chicago O'Hare to Minneapolis to visit her brother and sister in law.

The flight was scheduled to leave at 12:55, so I got my wife to the airport at 10am. After 4 delays her flight is now scheduled for 6pm . She checked the schedule board and she said numerous flights were delayed. We had bad weather this morning but that has all cleared this morning. This is crazy

Very pleased with the zoom feature of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra!

I'm very pleased with the zoom feature of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra!
I was already happy with the landscape photos I took 3 weeks ago of sunrise

But really haven't tried the zoom feature until today. Since it was a nice sunbreak, (5pm) I got all set up to take pics of birds, squirrels and the minute I sat down, it clouded

️ over.

I said what the heck, I'll see how this works with the zoom with deep shadows with the clouds, no sun. All shots were sitting down at the table. Look for the red dot (feeder) on the tree from where I was sitting... that is how far I zoomed (digital zoom) 20-25 yards to the feeder.

The sun was just disappearing here and cloudy with the woodpecker pics where the red dot is on tree.

Zoomed into the female and male Northern Flicker woodpeckers. First the female was there, then the male kicked her out. But as soon as he saw me, flew off, so only shot I got.

All shots were resized for web/email size for posting. I did take some with the B700 Nikon superzoom of the female woodpecker, so I'll compare the shots tomorrow and post them.

Help Galaxy Tab A 2019 locked out

Hello,

I have my mother's Galaxy Tab A from 2019. She passed away last summer and I don't know her pattern to unlock the tablet. I have all of her email and Samsung log-in information for those accounts, but because her tablet isn't on my internet, I cannot use the Find My Device to reset the tablet. I had wanted to keep the tablet intact until I was sure there was nothing on it I needed, but at this point I will even take a factory reset if I can just get it functional. I've tried to do the hold down the power and volume down button then switch to the power and volume up combo, the power and volume down to just power combo, etc. and none of them works to allow me to get to the Android menu to do the reset. I am frustrated I can't open this tablet even with her account information. Does anyone have any ideas of something I can do???

TIA for your help.

A little more exposer..

Truth to be told:
Now I have turned off all my bg apps running, so I keep my Moto z 2 turbo idle for that time, so I leave it on sometimes up to eleven hours on accident, mind you, I am somewhat ocd of turning off my cellphones and tablets, oh every four hours, but with the tablet, I tend to leave a bit longer since it does not over heat as much. (Except for when it is charging, something with the usb port itself.. A little issue, but none the less it works pretty flowery), It drains the battery automatically, I do not have any apps open or any of that nature what so ever, usually I automatically turn off the bg apps running, it has been ages since I did read upon moto z turbo, but can you refresh my memory on what I can do to help it have the battery last longer? So yeah but that battery seem to idle some more though, given that fact, I have turned it off for about a few months or so, and still saids around eighty percent.

So any clues on how this can over heat, even with the Moto Edge Plus I have, it over heats so much towards the speaker with the edges themselves..

Google crawling: Does Google crawl websites using Android phone data?

google-crawling-1024x622.png

Google crawling is an important process for a search engine of this magnitude. However, knowing the full scale of the world wide, is it possible that Google is crawling websites based on traffic data mining from android devices?

What triggered this question is because a friend's website which was not submitted to Google was crawled and indexed. Prior to Google crawling it, we've been using our Android phones to test the website.

[MTK][Root] TCL 20 XE 5087Z Root and Unlock Bootloader Guide

WARNING: If you fail/misunderstand a step, you may accidentally brick your device. This method involves messing with the actual partitions of the device in order to root. All user data (files, music, apps, games, users, call logs, messages, etc.) will be wiped, so make sure your device is backed up. If your device no longer works, it's your fault as you made the modifications.
TL;DR: Bricking risk, lost of user data

Requirements:
Windows 7+ (I used Windows 7 build 7601 Professional x64) (Windows 10 recommended)
Python 3.8+ (I used 3.8.10) (3.11.x recommended)
UsbDk (I used 1.0.22 x64)
ADB
MtkClient
Unbricked and set-up TCL 20 XE with access to Developer Options
A USB-C to whatever your computer has cable, that allows data transfer (I have an USB-C to USB-A data cable)

Downloads:
Python 3.8.10 Download Page
UsbDk 1.0.22 x64 Direct Download
MtkClient Latest Direct Download
Magisk Manager Patched for MTK Direct Download
Orange State Disabler Download Page (auto install)

Steps:
1. Download everything under the Downloads section above. Optionally, you can install a newer version of UsbDk and Python if you want.
2. Make a folder somewhere. For me, I made an "android modding" folder in my downloads, however this means my files are in C:\Users\Nostii\Downloads\android modding (aka %USERPROFILE%\Downloads\android modding), instead of something easy like C:\android modding.
3. Run and setup Python and UsbDk, make sure to install Python to the PATH.
4. Reboot your computer.
5. Extract MtkClient, (don't extract the Orange State Disabler, otherwise it won't work).
6. Open the command prompt.
(Open the start menu and type cmd.exe, and click on it, or go to folder you downloaded and extract the files to, hold shift and right click, and hit Open command window here.)
7. Type cd mtk into the cmd window and press tab, and then enter.
8. Grab your phone. Hold the power button and press the Power off button in the top left corner.
9. Run the command python mtk r boot, vbmeta boot.img,vbmeta.img in the cmd window. After running the command, plug the phone into the computer using the cable you have.
10. Unplug the phone and hold the power button. Make sure you have you patched Magisk apk ready.
11. Enable ADB debugging. Unlock the phone, go to settings, scroll all the way down to the bottom, and tap System. Tap About phone 5087z and scroll all the way down. Tap on Build number about 15 times, go back, and tap Developer options. Tap on OEM unlocking and tap Yes. Scroll down a little it until you see USB debugging, and tap on it, and then press Ok.
12. On your computer, run adb install app-release.apk or whatever you renamed the Magisk apk to and wait.
13. On the phone, go to the home screen, scroll up, and find Magisk and tap Install in the Magisk menu that has the mask icon.
14. On the computer, run adb push boot.img /sdcard/Download and wait.
15. On the phone, press Select and Patch a File, and find the file boot.img in your Downloads. Press Select and wait. When it finishing patching your phones boot.img file, it should give you a file that is named magisk-WHATEVER-HERE.img, You need to know what this file is named. It should be located in your Download folder, but take a screenshot anyways to avoid losing it.
16. On the computer, run adb pull /sdcard/Download/[displayed magisk patched boot filename here] and also run ren [displayed magisk patched boot filename here] boot.patched.

These next steps will unlock the bootloader of the phone and wipe ALL USER DATA. After running the command in step 17, there will be no turning back as all user data will be WIPED, DESTROYED and GONE
17. Turn off the phone entirely and unplug it, and then run the command python mtk e metadata,userdata,md_udc and then plug the phone back in to wipe the user data.

18. Unplug the phone, run the command python mtk xflash seccfg unlock and plug the phone back in. This will unlock the bootloader.
19. Unplug the phone, and turn the phone back on. If done correctly, the phone should reboot back to the device setup screen, which should be the same as AOSP.
If you are getting a dm-verity error on Android 11 (which should be the latest officical build for the 20 XE), just press the power button, then the device should boot and show a warning about having an unlocked bootloader (Orange State) and then the device should boot into Android within 5 seconds or so. The Orange State warning will show on every boot.
20. Turn the phone back off, and run python mtk w boot, vbmeta boot.patched,vbmeta.img.empty and plug the phone back in to root the phone.

21. Turn the phone back on, and set the device up. Repeat step 11 but skip enabling OEM unlocking as that option will be grayed out due to the unlocked bootloader (re-enable ADB debugging).
22. Run adb install app-release.apk (or whatever the Magisk APK is named) to restore the Magisk app (the one that is in the app drawer is supposed to download Magisk but fails) and run it. It should show Installed 1eb83ad8-alpha-30 (23001) like mine does. Optionally, you can install Root Checker, run it, grant it root permission with Magisk, and see it is fully rooted.

Optional Steps to disable the Orange State warning:
1a. Optionally, you can disable Orange State, which is the text that shows how the bootloader is unlocked and the device is not trusted, which makes the device boot take at least 5 seconds longer (they really want you to read that, and I guess relock the bootloader), do NOT extract the zip file, it is meant to be flashed.

2a. THIS PART OF THIS GUIDE IS UNFINISHED, DON'T WORRY THOUGH, THE ORANGE STATE WARNING ISN'T GOING TO BRICK YOUR DEVICE OR ANYTHING, THIS IS REALLY ONLY TO MAKE THE DEVICE BOOT 5 SECONDS LONGER WITHOUT RELOCKING THE BOOTLOADER WHILE NOT SHOWING THIS WARNING. SORRY.

Optional Steps to Relock the Bootloader:
1b. Power the device back off.

2b. Run python mtk xflash seccfg lock on the computer. Plug the phone back in. Unplug when finished and reboot. The bootloader is now locked again, but the device should still be rooted. Do NOT run this if you are going to flash a custom ROM like LineageOS, Linux (such as Ubuntu Touch), or CaylxOS. Running this command should also fix the Orange State warning on device boot (when it says TCL powered by Android), however if you want to keep an unlocked bootloader while disabling this warning, try doing steps 1a to step a.

Spoofing a server for an android app?

So I'm not sure if what I'm asking for is possible, or feasible.

I've recently download this app called FarmIt mobile which is for keeping information about livestock.

The app doesn't work because it needs to connect to their server which requires a subscription, which is too much money for me.

I was wondering if there's a way to get the app to connect to my own server, and what that server might look like? I think the sync files are just text documents.

Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance.
