SD card memory use?

Have Samsung J3 Orbit.

What determines the use of SD card memory?
I have found ,in some cases, I can tell the app to use SD and others I can't.
If the app itself will not use SD memory is there a backdoor to make it so?
Does the app have to be written to use SSD memory?
Thanks

Apps UI Scale different in Studio vs device

Hi all! I'm new to Android dev, but I have an issue which I feel must be something simple I'm overlooking.

I have my device set up (a Technexion dev board) and the resolution of the virtual device is set to match the resolution of the screen, yet there appears to be a huge discrepancy between the two.

Photos attached, but you can see that in Studio, everything appears far larger than it does on the real device--again, despite the res of the AVD being configured correctly.

Any help appreciated!

Help Lost color code options on Google Calendar

I use the same Google Calendar on 2 identical phones (Motorola Turbo II) on Verizon. Suddenly today, my second phone no longer allows me to set up appointment with a choice of color code. The most noticeable difference I see on the new or edit appointment page is the absence of color code choice and another button with a Lock icon captioned "Calendar default." Appointments already on the calendar still allow editing of color code. I want to return the Calendar on that second phone to the original settings.

Help Removing Tricky AT&T bloatware

I have been trying to eliminate pesky bloat from At&t on my phone labeled "Mobile Hotspot", it does not show up as an app in Titanium Backup or any other bloatware removing apps. All this app does is open up a sub menu of settings to enable wifi tethering or wifi hotspot, when enabling wifi from the sub menu a toast notification declares "Turning on Portable Wi-Fi hotspot will turn off Wi-Fi". I use rootless pixel launcher, and checking the launcher's app db, "Mobile Hotspot" is labeled com.android.settings/com.android.settings.Settings$WifiApSettingsActivity.

Deleting this entry in my pixel launcher's db does nothing, and it gets repopulated almost immediately. I have tried to mess around with com.android.settings package in /data/data but have not been successful either. Where is the source, or at the least what do I need to do to eliminate this annoying useless app?

AR core android .sfb model conversion problem

Ar core model conversion with "beta scene-form android"
1) android studio shut down when converted model i.e. model.sfb viewed through window.
2) android studio did not show any texture on converted model it show a pale creamy color model.
3) applying texture on model pragmatically but this cause the problem with "renderable",
i.e. lightning effect,
4) model is not projecting by default when screen launches even when the method called multiple times. i.e. complteablefuture object in not completed normally.
5) same method will be called on onClick model is projecting by multiple clicks.
6) model projection problem is not happening when "android.sfb" is used for projection

Disable notification for mobile network

I have begun getting an audible notification whenever my phone switches from 4G to some other mobile network. It is annoying and I'd like to disable this. I haven't been able to find anything that appears related. I've found a "Mobile Network" page but nothing about notifications there. I even looked under "Developer Options" but saw nothing there.

I searched and found this article https://androidforums.com/threads/disable-notification-for-no-nearby-wifi-network.1220591/ but my phone has no "Network Notifications" page which I can find.

I'm running Android 8.0

Apps Publish an Android app on behalf of a customer?

Hi all.
As a software developer, I develop a white label app that is then branded for my client.

Is it possible to publish the app on behalf of my client so it's under their Google PlayStore account? Will this allow them to respond to customer reviews on the PlayStore?

If it's possible, I believe the client requires to have a google account, but what type of an account and I how can I push the build from my dev account to their account so the client can publish it?

Accessories Xiaomi Smartwatch Miband4 Unboxing + Review

So not too long ago I got my hands on the latest Xiaomi Smartband device, the Miband4. I've had all of them since the Miband2, and in this episode we'll make some comparisons between them and why or why not should you get this one.

What's New?

The first thing to notice is that the box isn't the same as the other Mibands, which while were more simple, they felt a little more premium in their build, although the design of this box is more pleasing this time around.

One thing that hasn't changed though is that it is a little painful to take the band out of the box.

This time around, the pill is previously inserted into the wristband, while you had to mount it separately on the models before.

The pill seems to be almost like the Miband3 pill except for some minor design choices, which I like. It seems like the Miband4 sensor has been upgraded since you can see more modules in the back. I also thought the Miband3 had the crystal overly exposed in comparison to the miband2. this one is some kind of middleground between those devices. A great thing about this new band is that it is compatible with previous wristbands, so if you had different colors or something, this one should fit in them. A nice touch there.

The charger is one of the big changes for the Miband4 since now it is like a pod charger, where you rest the pill on top of it in order to get it charging, while the previous models featured a slot dock, It has its ups and downs, for example the new one looks slightly flimsier in quality and bulkier, but it charges the pill really well, while the other ones I always had difficulty charging the pill with.

You get your standard user manual , and that's it.

Features

Moving on to the features, the Miband4 now features a full color and touch sensitive OLED screen, with many useful new tricks and features for the new and returning users. they are not much of a big deal, but in this price range, they sure are very welcome.

First up you have interchangeable faces for the watch. You can either choose the default faces directly through the watch's interface, or you can get into the Mifit app and download a ton of other custom watch faces.

For example, I would like to try on this one, so the only thing I have to do is to click and wait for it to sync with the watch.

You can even download more custom watch faces on the internet, and even make your own, so the possibilities are endless.

You can also control your music straight from the band now, you only have to get your favorite music app going, and then you can play and pause, skip, and adjust the volume without having to touch your cellphone at all.

It is not the best experience ever, but it gets the job done.

Last but not least, you get some new exercise features now, including "Swimming". It is now able to hold up until 50m below water, so you can take it to the pool with you have it track your exercise. If you need to pause, you only have to hold the home button for some seconds and you are able to continue, or cancel.

Is it Worth it?

Overall, I've had the Mi band4 and loved it. I feel the battery is even better on this device, and I would definitely recommend to any new or returning user to upgrade to the Miband4.

Android, and Android app, in military and law enforcement

This very interesting article describes how Android, and a specific app, are in daily use by the military--starting with my favorite branch, the USAF--and law enforcement.

"Called Android Tactical Assault Kit, or ATAK, this piece of software has gone on to become the preferred app of American tactical teams across most branches and even in law enforcement."

One great point it makes is that it is possible for a government project to stick to its budget!

"ATAK is rare in that it’s a Department of Defense software program that has achieved wild success while mostly sticking to its original budget. While the use of commercial off-the-shelf hardware and software has seen a spotty record across the military, the ATAK program shows what can happen when it’s done right. The powerful yet flexible nature of the Android operating system paired with a responsive development team has produced a product that’s not only been very successful in the military, but licensed out into to civilian companies as well."

It's a quick read, and makes me happy to see 'my' OS used this way. :)

Help Mute media volume in silent mode?

Hello,

When I put my Samsung Note 8 to silent mode and when I play any videos in browser/youtube/facebook, the video (media volume) would still have sound.

I want to maintain in silent mode all the time and I want to the media volume to default to 0 (mute) every time when a new video started playing (I may manually increase the media volume after a video starts playing).

How can I do that?

Thanks

(By default, if I put my phone to silent mode, only the ringing is changed to vibration and any video played will still have sound.)
