Redmi Note 5 Pro - Amazing so far

Hello everyone,

So I finally picked up the Redmi Note 5 Pro (4/64 GB, Black) after asking around on this forum, and I must say, I am loving the device so far.

It's such a huge performance boost over the devices utilizing the 625 SoC, and am amazed by how snappy it feels.

I have used various flagships, including the iPhone 8, Pixel 2, Mi Mix 2, OnePlus 5T etc. and this feels close, if not as good. No lags or stutters after applying the initial update. Everything's humming along very smoothly. And the battery life has been outstanding.

7 Hrs 45 mins with 25% juice still left, an hour ago. Charged it fully yesterday night, after installing all applications and theming it to my satisfaction.

I was a bit skeptical about picking up the Indian variant and considered importing the China/Global unit (for the better rear camera) but I must say, I am pleasantly surprised by the camera performance as well. It's no pixel, but for the price of admission, I'd say the images offered are fantastic. The extreme low-light shots are good enough to be used after a slight amount of quick editing on the fly.

But most of all, I am impressed by the overall performance. I came in without any expectations and my experience with previous Xiaomi budget offerings (which have all been solid secondary devices) while good, hasn't exactly been anything to write home about. This device feels incredibly snappy and everything is fast and super smooth. I wonder if the 6 GB variant would have been even better.

I am seriously considering moving over to Apple's ecosystem entirely by end of July (the whole deal; iPhone, iPad and MacBook) but even if I do, I will be keeping this baby around as a secondary device.

If I don't migrate, I'll likely either pick up the Mi 8 (if it launches here in India) or a Mi Mix 2/2s along with a Surface book.

In either case, just wanted to drop in a 'line' of appreciation for the device, and thank everyone in the community for their advice and support.

Cheers!

Hi, I am looking for a list of android advertisement ids with countries they are originated from. Is there anybody knows where or how to get a list like that? I researched and found out that if I had an android app, I could get my users AdvertisementIds but I don't have any. If there is no such a list online, is there any of you guys can provide me such list?

Is it possible to make the following app in sketchware?

Hello! I was wandering if it is possible to make an app that will use a check box, a progress bar, a textview a calendar component (and anything else that is necessary), a dialog window component for sure! The textview will be rewriten like for example 0/7 which represent the days passed successfully without smoking, for example. I want to build a reminder app that will make a daily check on a specific event, for example stop smoking! I want to build the app with some levels, on which each level will become tougher (for example 1st quest will be for 7 days, the second one for 2 weeks, the 3rd one for a month, the 4th about 3 months, the 5th about 6 months, the 6th about 9 months, the 7th one about a year, the 8th about 1/5 years, and finally the last one, about 2 years)! When i will launch this app for the 1st time, the app will show a dialog window message about a specific warning! Then another dialog window will appear that will ask a confirmation if we want to continue to use this app! If it will be YES, the app will automatically check the checkbox and which will of course dissapear! The only thing will be visible is the 0/7 textview and the progress bar that will appear! But if the answer will be NO, then the app will ask from us to delete this app! Anyways! So as I said earlier, if the answer will be YES, the app will automatically start to do the daily check about our progress, and will ask for example "did you smoke today?". If the answer will be NO then the app, according to the calendar values (day, time), will add +1 to the progress bar and will add +1 to 0/7, so it will become 1/7! For each day passed, the app will add +1 both progress bar and 1/7, till the text view will reach 7/7 and progress bar to the max point! But if the answer will be YES, then a dialog window will appear, warning us that we will lose our progress if we will do that again! This message can be appear 2 times only, but on third ignored warning, the app will force the progress bar to become zero and the 7/7 will become 0/7, like the first time we launched the app, but without the warning and confirmation dialog window! After these 2 warning messages, every single attempt to smoke, will cause to automatically lose all the progress, and start from the beginning, no matter what progress we did! It will start from the beginning! I have done most of the work, except progress bar thing and the textview thing! How to code those 2 last things (progress bar, textview)? Remember, that both of them should get values providing from calendar.. Anyways thanks for your help

Exported App has no App Module Confguration

Hello all, I am new to Android Studios. I have been developing an app for a class for 7 weeks now and am trying to submit it. Whenever my teacher tries to open it, There is no configuration module and the app cannot be run. I am using Android Studio 3.4, Gradle build 3.4.0, SDK 28 with 14 as the minimum. I have used a Galaxy s9 to do most of the developing because the emulator slows down my computer substantially. When I have used an emulator, I used a Pixel AVD that was the standard one in Android Studio. When I sent the file to my teacher,
>I copied the folder or the project
>I saw on a site that you could delete some things to reduce size
>removed the build file to trim the zip size
>removed the .iml files for size
>zipped the file and sent it through google drive
I should mention that he is using Android studio 3.2. I have tried this several ways at this point. The Export to Zip option in the File menu allowed the project to load but then it crashed. I have fully tested it on my end and have no problems moving it from my home computer to other computers. I have been googling this for two days and haven't had much luck. Let me know if there are other questions. Thank you.

Apps Programmatically clicking on activity below the active one

Hi,

I'm developing an application that launches a 3rd party activity via intent. This works good and well. But....I need to programmatically click on the 3rd party activity. The intent (no pun intended) is to automate the third-party activity when certain signal conditions has been met.

I have played around with transparent overlays, and clicking with 'input tap x y' commands- but the tapping does not 'filter' through to the app 'below' the overlay.

Requirement: This needs to happen from the phone itself - it may not be connected to a computer where adb shell can be used.

Can anybody point me in the correct direction?

Calls from my Voice Mail

Today I started getting calls from my voice mail. At least the phone says that. They claim to be from Microsoft and my IP address has be compromised in several countries. That I need to punch 1 to be connected to a tech. Its not like I can block my own voice mail number to block these calls. And there is no way am I going to punch 1 at all. What can I do about these calls? Thanks.

voicemail notification dot doesn't work

I tried enabling notification dots everywhere I googled about but they aren't working.

Moto G7, Android 9.

Is this normal (I'm a smartphone noob).

If I call on another phone and leave a message (after hitting the decline button) the notification dot never appears...but if I click to open the default Google Phone app it does show a voicemail notification count.

Ditto if the phone is off when the voicemail is sent (usually; one time out of ten tries so far there was a dot after starting the phone if I left a test voicemail while it was off). When the phone is on (and call declined and test voicemail left) sometimes (though mostly not) I hear a notification sound (but I'm just starting to learn to use the phone so sorry I have no idea whether the notification sound was about the new voicemail).

On the Moto forum I saw someone eventually give up and try the Notifier app; is that what I must do too if I want notification dots (and, hopefully, counters in the dots) to work, please?

I see that my Gmail icon does have a notification dot (without a counter), so perhaps if I start testing it I'd find Gmail notification is working (but just counter-lessly).

Samsung S9+ flip cover compatibility issue

My Samsung S9+ was bought direct from Samsung and is around a year old. I have a Samsung branded flip cover bought about 9 months ago from a retailer. A couple of months ago the cover would not automatically lock the screen when the cover was closed. Samsung via live chat say this is a fault created when the last software version 9 was updated. They say the cover I have only works with version 8 so is no longer compatible and the issue lies with the retailer (how they know what version of cover I have I don’t know). Okay so the retailer may change it as it’s under guarantee but what happens when Samsung update to version 10 etc. At £65 a time for a cover that last 7 months this surely isn’t right. If Samsung are correct then consumers should be aware of this. Has anyone else experienced this issue.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

Greetings to all!
Thank you in advance for your input. I have had a large phone, "Phablet" for about 8 years now. First was the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, which I liked a lot, after a few years, (about 4 years ago) I purchased a Motorola Nexus 6, which I loved. I am not rich, by any means, and both of those phones were purchased new, from Amazon, about a year after the initial release. They were both under $300, each approximately $280. I feel in both cases, when the phones were purchased, they were great deals.

I am at the point where I want/need a new phone. I have been researching everywhere, and keep coming back to this specific phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7. It seems like it has at least the same features as my previous phones, with the obvious modernization of a new phone. The only feature it doesn't have, (or seem to have over the Nexus 6) is wireless charging.

Considering I live in the USA, and this is a global version, (all reviews seem to point to it working well) should I purchase this phone? Its around $220. A bit below my price point of approximately $280.

If you recommend it, please let me know, if not could you recommend other options in the price range I have mentioned.

Thanks a lot. FM

Security Options

Here's another excellent idea that will keep people's information like contact's, accounts etc. in the their phone's more safe.

Have an option to turn off the pattern password (seeing as if your screen breaks and you can't use the pattern..you have the fingerprint sensor) and make it fingerprint only.
Seeing as it automatically requires you at the beginning to have a pattern, give us the option to turn it off after.
All these drones in the sky makes that feature useless if some one can just fly by your house and see what your pattern, pin whatever password is. It'll make it to where those losing their phone's, stolen or whatever, don't have to worry about their information being given out to some one listening to them and would have to factory reset the phone if the phone was their only objective.

End result, fingerprint password only.

Folder bug

Hello, I have an Android 6 phone (marshmallow) and I experienced a weird bug. I created a folder with 2 apps inside, pretty normal stuff. But some time ago I removed one of them because I didn't use it. It was then that I realised that the folder was broken because the other app inside didn't 'pop out' like it should. It stayed in the folder (which I couldn't open) so I had to go in google play, write the name and then open the app.
I tried deleting the app and then this happened:

(Image also added as attachment)
So I have a broken folder on my 'android desktop' can anyone help please
(Yes, other folders work normally. Only this one is affected)
(Yes, I tried rebooting multiple times)
