Ok, so it detected the update and it appeared to update but didn't reboot.

According to my about screen it doesn't appear to have installed and it's been back on for a while. I manually rebooted.

So now you have me paranoid about "re-applying" the update. Should I?

Guess I'm off to Sprint...The update completed, rebooted to HTC splash screen and there it sat - I'd say for 15 minutes, maybe 20 - and nothing happened, no more reboots, no power LED. At that point I pulled the battery. Right thing to do, probably not - I'm impatient. Do I know better - yes. Do I know a reset can help move things along if their hung - yep. Did it - nope. My fault - possibly.

(and I've left it alone for 65 minutes now and still on the white htc screen - figure it's toast)

WTF...why are you ppl trying to update the phone again anyways? Are expecting another update to pop up?

I can only speak for myself but it was impatience and the thought that, perhaps, there was an issue with the 1st update (why else would I still see a message indicating that an update was available).

I stated in my original post that it was a bad idea on my part, but running an update again should not brick a phone.

I'll certainly take the blame for impatience, but that fact that my phone is bricked is the result of a crappy update program from HTC

Have you tried tethering? All of my rooted apps are now reporting NO root access..

Crap. You're right, I'm wrong. When I first fired up tethering, it barked at me, so I re-ran unrevoked, then the tether app started up. I didn't actually try tethering. D'oh. I can also verify that Titanium backup doesn't work, either.

Sorry. Mea culpa.

I wouldn't re-apply the update. Everyone that has done so thus far has had their EVO's bricked

OK just updated now took about 20 minutes total. Seems to be working fine got a congratulations your update was successful message after the last of many reboots. Nothing looks to be amiss.

This happens to me too w/out the update. I kill it via ATK or Process Manager and it comes back hours later it seems (all on its own). Whatever.

So unrEVOked works after the upgrade?!??!!? unrEVOked twitter just said not to apply the update yet...

When I try to run wireless tether app I get the "Need root permissions" error, even after attempting a reroot with unrevoked. No go for me, of course it's not a big deal to me right now. I wanted to see if the update improved everyday use... I can live without wireless tether till a new solution comes out soon.

Looks like I may have picked up 100 to 200 kbps download speed and 50 to 100 kbps upload speed. I'll be able to tell better tonight when I get home.

Anyone in Colorado get the update yet. Still nothing on my end. Thought they maybe going from east to west on rolling this out.

For me I didn't try and do anything, once it booted, another DL started all by it's self (I did not initiate it). I was then prompted to install now or later. How the hell was I supposed to know it was the same update?
I don't read all the software version numbers. And even if I did I have never had a update (ever) brick a non hacked phone in my life. So I guess shame on me for not checking out everything to make sure it wasn

My update went very smoothly....So far I have noticed I dont have the grounding issue any longer...IE. I can lay my EVO on the desk, couch and not have to touch the sides to use the screen......Whooo Hoooooo so glad of that I sometimes would get tired of holding it just to use it

You just weren't holding it properly.

I'd vote for no! Unless you reset your phone 1st.

Well you guys its official...my phone somehow became bricked during the installation of the system update ( th firmware one)... first lemme state that i have NOT rooted my evo and the first update ( HTC software update) installed just fine... took a trip over to Radioshack and now i gota wait till after wensday when they usually get their shipments in. I have hardware version 2 and i really didnt want to go with hardware 3 since it has that new display..i preffer the Hardware 2 display but it seems im screwed...

So far had to remove and readd all my widgets... cuz the say "error loading gadget" Thats a pain in the butt. I had so many, I cant remember what the heck some of them were. :-(

Only 5 of mine (out of a total of about 50) gave that message -- including 2 that came with the phone (Voicemail and Power). Removing and re-adding them fixed it.

My phone seems to take twice as long to boot now. : \
