Android is an operating system(like Windows, Linux, or OSX), not a phone. Droid is the name of the phone. The new one is called the Droid 2.

I was pretty bummed when they didn't announce the Droid 2 this week. That means we're probably looking at August at the earliest. Hopefully the later release date means they'll bump up the specs a bit, but I'm not too optimistic.

Come on Verizon, leak some more news to let us know this phone is still on the way.

^ I dont think they will bump the specs, They already have prototypes. Only thing that they could bump in theory is the camera. It will prob be loaded with 2.2 froyo

Yeah, I just think it's weird that Droid 2 and Droid X prototype leaks were coming out at the same time, but the Droid 2 is set to come out more than a month later (rumor has it).

And even if the delay is so they can pre-load it with Froyo, it doesn't seem like it should take THAT much longer, since Droid 1 is supposed to be updated in July.

And now they have competition in the high-end Android slider market with the Epic 4G coming out.

It's probably hoping too much, but this is my wish list for things to change from the prototypes (in order from "I sort of expect this" to "pie in the sky"):

  • 720p recording
  • All black (seriously, every phone with the Droid brand to date is black)
  • hdmi port or a dock with an hdmi port
  • 7-8 megapixel camera
  • LTE compatible
  • 300+ ppi screen

I'm eligible for Annual Upgrade on 9/14, and I'm definitely considering the Droid 2. Then again, at the rate these devices are being announced, who know what will be announced in the next 45 days!

Honestly though, I am not quite sure why Moto wouldn't have just made a Droid X with a 3.7" screen and a keyboard and called that the Droid 2.

So basically the Droid X with a keyboard? I know that's what I want.

It's funny, I've been a WM fanboy for years and have decided to dump the platform for Android. After reasearching for what seems like months I've settled on the Droid but I don't want to pull the trigger if the Droid 2 is coming out soon.

I'm coming from T-Mobile and have the HD2 and I think the size is pretty close to to Droid X and while the screen looks good the phone is just too big and thin I feel like it's going to break if my kid sits on my lap when it's in my pants pocket.

I'm waiting for the 32" droid slate. I hear it will be thin so it will still be vary pocketable

for reals though My droid did that # on the qaud test with 2.2 so I can only imagine what that phone will do once it gets 2.2.

32"? Where does that number come from. If it's indeed 32 inches, that's huge for any component on the phone. Unless it's the total area of the screen...
