"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Hey I don't know if anyone else is following Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 on Twitter, but he has made 2 posts now in regards to trying to find the missing droid. I just thought that is kind of cool.

"We’ve received a transmission from Droid X designate #4. It detects humans in the area. ARE YOU ONE OF THEM?"

This is the NY one right?

A place with lots of humans could be anywhere then.

The fact that this says "we've received a transmission" tells me that the phone is on and signaling them when someone is close to it or when someone finds it.

That's possible. Surely they have a way to know if it's been turned on. So if this clue means it's been found, then we need proof and Kleenex for the tears of those who didn't find it.

It tells me that it's just an inconsistency in their clues. I don't think they're really making an effort to say whether they're on or off, they're just saying whatever they need to say for the clues to work.

Well....back to #6, the one that might be in Florida...Well, it cannot be anything that is not 100% weather proof. It hasn't stopped raining here since Thursday....it rained all weekend long and is still raining today. Not our normal afternoon down-pours...just steady drizzling all weekend long. I'm not even sure a poster would hold up too well....

And, Florida's already mostly swamps anyway...if it's in any bushes or on the ground...it's now underwater. Even my landscaping is flooding in front of my house, and I have a pretty good slope towards the road AND drainage hooked up in two of my flower beds. lol

And, another thing to remember with FL is that even when there's no rain, because of the strong sunshine, any large area using reclaimed water will run it's irrigation cycles twice per day. So, it would have to be 100% waterproof to be outside and it would have to be obvious enough to stand out covered by mud and some water.

DO NOT go poking around shrub beds in Florida randomly. Trust me. My company averages between 4 and 8 snake removal calls per day in the summer and we are averaging about 3 gator calls a week, but we mostly just set traps for those...we have the state step in for anything too large for us to safely relocate. Hell....we even had two black bear relocations since January. lol (Even though Florida Black bears are small...we out-source all of those calls.)

Yes...if Disney can have bears, alligators, snakes, and panthers at it's resorts and inside the theme parks.......there are even many snakes around large metropolitan areas like Miami. Snake removal is a BIG business in Florida. The local fire department and police will call in rescue companies when they get 911 calls for these animals.

I hope someone here finds the Droid X in Florida...but everyone please be safe while looking. ^_~ PS: I hope I'm the one who finds it. lol

Agreed; the longer this goes on the more they've been sending contradictory signals as to if the phones are on or off. Either way it's not going to be hard for them to tell when a phone has been found. I'm sure VZW knows the ESN's of the hidden phones and is looking for them to register on the network or jump cell sites. They could even have a custom app on the phones that checks in with them on startup or every x minutes. I think the twitter account will announce when one has been officially found.

Hey guys and gals, long time lurker on this thread and just had to finally register. There has been a bit of talk about searching Verizon stores but I don't see them just planting one in a store. It would take about 5 seconds for some employee's buddy to get the call and jump on it. If it were there, the only way I can see it being kept on the DL would be for the manager to be the only one to know about it... but then it wouldn't be able to be in plain sight.

I also don't see how they could have a display with a TV or a glass case because they take time to install and draw too much attention to not have been spotted by now. I also hesitate to think that they would be inside a private building because I can't see them doing it without asking the business owner and then you run into the same issues you do with the Verizon store. A public place or landmark may still work though.

It just seems to me that it would have to be in a place that it could be installed or placed quickly by at a maximum of 2 people and without drawing attention.

Just my 2 cents.

Sooooo ummmm... when are we going to find one of these guys? I'm stuck between two theories. One, that we still haven't been given enough information on purpose, and that more detailed hints are still yet to come. The other, is that we have already been given enough info but it's encoded and no one has figured it out yet. Like a word puzzle using the clues, or GPS coords using the number of characters in the tweets like someone mentioned before.

I still think the tweeter is a moron because of the mistakes, so I am doubting the second theory. It is still possible however.

After reading Louis' post I also don't see it being somewhere high and out of reach or dangerous in any way to get to like up in a tree or high on a lamp post or something. There is no way they are going to put it somewhere that could open up the chance for a law suit due to injury.

Remember when we all said that it can't be hidden in a box somewhere because of possible bomb scares, etc. Well some of you guys were talking about Geocaching and how fun it was, so I checked it out.

Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site

If you haven't been to that site, go there and put in your zip code or address. THERE'S BOXES HIDDEN EVERYWHERE!!! I found a geocache 50 feet behind my backyard in a neighborhood park LOL.

Man... how horrible would it be if they haven't actually placed them out in the wild yet. What if they are waiting to place them until they gave some final and more specific clue than the local clue. That could explain why we have been so fruitless so far...

... man would that be mean though..

That's what I still think, that they're not even out in the wild yet.

New Plan

This droidlanding marketing thing is supposedly being done by a third part company. Lets find this company, raid their offices and take the phones or beat the employees up for information. I know I'm not the only one that wants to release some frustration from some of these clues.

We need some research into the previous contest that were completed. What info do we have already?
