"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

im going to follow a fed ex truck all day tomorrow and see if he drops any vzw boxes and then check them... i cant get in trouble for that right??
ill just say im following the droidlanding twitter and that im trying to catch a droid x ?
would that hold up?

Also, one person in the comments says he called VZW and was told that these phones are going out to the people who switched their orders to the X from the backordered Incredible, but someone else said another VZW rep told him none should be going out and that she was letting security know, and she thinks they are blackmarket. (If they were blackmarket, would VZW activate them?)

Pretty sure you are wrong on that. Keep in mind the 2 phones come from completely different manufacturers... Like I said above, the X isn't said to come with Flash Lite. And it's probably because it's scheduled to get the 2.2 update soon after release. They probably figured it wouldn't make sense to include an inferior version of flash when they would soon get the good stuff.

Hmm... that makes sense. I assumed incorrectly. I guess flash 10.1 will be coming out withing a couple months and Flash lite isn't much anyway...

I had to register to comment on this one. I've been following this from the very beginning.

The fact that one has showed up and almost cooresponds to the most recent twitter update made me a little skeptical. However, now that the Huntsville,AL update was added, I'm even more skeptical that the clues are strictly clues as to where they are being shipped. I'm from huntsville and have obviously been following Droid #8. As soon as they made the comment about rockets and the moon i immediately made the correlation between the clues and the space and rocket center in huntsville. There is presently a star wars exhibit there (lucas arts = starwars and droid). I also happen to be lucky enough to have a good friend working the exhibit 8-5 everyday. Im sure that i would have a good clue as to when it might happen to be hidden there, if it will. I'll let you know if one happens to show up at the exhibit to be for "hiding" otherwise i'm still gonna think that these clues are shipping hints.

VZ gave the folks who pre-ordered Droid Incredible the option to convert the order to a Droid X. Maybe VZ is getting the DX stock in for the release on the 15th and someone in shipping screwed up and shipped them out to fill the DI backorder.

The switched Incredible order thing sounds the most plausible to me... Because VZW isn't doing preorders and it wouldn't make sense for BB to have their preorders shipped right to doorsteps, especially since they haven't been fully paid for!
 
I received two Incredibles last week (Refurbs, they are available BTW) and I'm almost positive they came from a fullfilment center in El Paso. I don't have the FedEx boxes anymore to double check. So, this might be an internal verizon transfer of some sort and they are unwrapping the demos. Some tool just thinking it'd be fun to post?

I'm only a half hour from Ontario, Cal. Where's my crowbar? I bet there are a ton of X's there. I could load up my truck and drive to FedEx for you all.

I have a Twitter noob question... When I send a tweet "to" someone (ie, @Tabe blah blah blah) can they see that message even if im not following them and they're not following me?
 
does anyone else find it weird that none of the droids have been found even by some random homeless guy or janitor?

if you really think about it, if it were hidden somewhere accessible to the public or easily seen, someone wouldve seen it by now.

YES LOL......one thing that was holding me back from sending @droidlanding my exact address!!! although if they were following you ...you could direct message @droidlanding......i wonder now if those people that @droidlanding is following are indeed the recepients?

At this time, I don't think so. They haven't mentioned #19 yet, however.

And I am now convinced the twitter is a fool after the #10 fiasco. Unless the low humidity thing is irony, like calling a fat guy tiny.

Either way, you can't take anything from these clues other than the city so far. Final clues going to be something like "Look in a mailbox on 5th and K"
 
i have a theory forming and need other people here to help me check it out...it follows along that several of these clues are direct references to places with a history connected to NASA and more specifically the Apollo program...so what everyone should do is check out the location references that aren't obviously connected to NASA and see if you can find one...i have found that buffalo/niagara falls, ny is connected directly to the Apollo program...if there is anyway to run with this connection i need help deciphering location connections...obviously we know houston is connected, there's the huntsville connection, there is one that mentions florida (while i think its actually in the keys) route a1a runs near/thru cape canaveral...

like i said its a loose theory and needs researching...i really do hope that there are real phones stashed out there...its good to make people's brainswork...even if it is just the ones whose brains are normally cranking...haha...have fun and good luck searching...

I guess some might just not see it or just don't see it right away. I use Twhirl on my laptop and it alerts me with a sound and pops up a window when I receive a direct message (@louie_berd). So, if I have my laptop on, I'll know right away. If not...I only check on my cell when I think about it or go to post from it. It's too annoying to have it notify me on new tweets or DM's...I'd have to check my phone constantly. lol It's why I don't ever use IM services from my cell either.

All of the people I know well just txt or call if it's important. I even use a separate Email addy for my cell, just to limit spam.

I brought up this theory a couple days ago. While it seems plausible there is no actual proof. Each known city does have nasa ties,but, most major cities do.

Well, I've already searched the KSC Visitor Complex (only the free area)...I've checked out all the Verizon stores I found close to that area (4 of them)....and I have had friends check out Homestead to Miami, and the Daytona Speedway on the 3rd and 4th and the Verizon store across from the race track. All were negative.

Without any more #6 clues...I'm not looking. Especially after the SF and Dallas failed hunts...and now ESPECIALLY that the trend is shifting that the phones are being mailed at random to people.

But, I'm not giving up just yet, because just like those damned golden Wonka tickets...there was a forged one to distract others from finding the real one. ^_^
