FYI to anyone buying a Desire: mobiles.co.uk sell unlocked phones with a contract. I got a really cheap deal on Orange but my phone will take any sim.

Should help when Android is updated too

Am I better off getting a code by itself from a site like htcsimunlock.com or is it a better idea to get code + software from somewhere like htccode.com . My phone is locked to T-Mobile if that makes a difference.

I wouldn't order from this site if I were you. It seems if they can unlock your device they will and if not, they will simply take your money and ignore your emails. Their forums are full of people who have been ripped off.

I recently unlocked an Orange UK Desire and wrote a guide on unlocking and debranding... part of it below, with the link to the people on ebay I bought the unlock code from

Unlocking

To unlock your phone you'll need to get an unlock code. They can be bought on ebay, I used these guys Primo Mobile Unlock items - Get great deals on Rogers Fido Unlocking, Blackberry Unlocking items on eBay.co.uk Shops! and the code came though in a couple of hours.

Unlocking Procedure:

1. Switch on your phone with your giffgaff sim.
2. Tap on the "network locked" message and you'll be prompted for an 8 digit unlock code.
3. Enter the code twice (the second time for the "sim unlock" code)
4. Enjoy!

Just to provide feedback, i used ebay item: 300434867258 and they were able to i've me a code... However i was a total ****** about the whole thing and never check my phone in the first place, i assumed since it came from 3 it would be locked to three, turns out it was already unlocked! never mind. but yeah, they gave me a code at least.
