"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

You know... given that four hour time frame and the sheer number of people that will be rushing there to find the Droid X, I think they might be giving out more than just one at each location.

It's probably just some very wishful thinking, but honestly, as it's been brought up several times, it's VERY VERY unfair if it's just one unit only.

Terms and conditions says 21. They can't lie on the T&C.

Ok lets break it down.

-What would you do if you came eye to eye with Droid X?
-Wherever people need hdmi and a 4.3” screen, Droid X will be there. Stay tuned for where that might just be.
-Here’s how it goes. You find a Droid X out there. You pick it up. You turn it on. And everything changes.
-You don’t come across a phone like Droid X every day. But you just might soon.
-Reports coming in from all check points. How many Droid X units have escaped? Some say more than a dozen...
-REPORT: Keep an eye out for the Droid X in the wild. With a 4.3” screen it can keep a pretty big eye on you.
-Droid X has everything it needs. Except a human owner. Stay tuned to find yours.

And they even were nice enough to narrow down the locations for us so that we can be prepared.

Hence "Forewarned is forearmed"

I think all you you who are upset should grow up. I went out looking, wasted a bunch of time, and had a blast doing it. Oh well. If you are really that tempramental that you can't kinda chuckle then i'm sorry for you.

To be honest, this was marketing genious. I know of at least a dozen people that now know that this phone is coming out, who would not have known if it weren't for this "Hunt".

So i beleive this Thread was for those who were interested in the hunt. So if all you want to do now is complain go start your own sob-fest thread somewhere else. And leave us that have been here since the beginning here to continue to have a good time and not let a phone ruin our life or even our day.

Peace!!! I'm out!!!!

haha, some of these comments make me wonder if the people are serious or just trolling? i can't imagine taking this that seriously.

i'm starting to think some of you cried.....who's going to admit to it?

If anyone is still hoping for a geocache type scavenger hunt when the GPS coordinates comes out, think again. With the heat wave that most of the US is having right now, do you really think the "sponsor representative" is going to go hide the thing and wait for someone to search bushes and things until they find it?

My guess is NO. They will probably be sitting in a vehicle with some sort of logo on it, BLASTING the AC. The first person to walk up to the vehicle and ask about the Droid X gets the certificate.

And I can understand why people would be upset that the rules just came out now, when all the tweets hinted otherwise. I hope the "sponsor representative" has security ;)

I know it. These people are crazy!! They were gonna go buy the phone anyway, before they found out that 21 out of 13,000 were gonna get a free one ( outstanding odds by the way), but NOW how dare verizon. LOL

Go get an iPhone folks!!!

Things are getting down to the wire, it seems - so a few pages back, I proposed some people who don't trust their cell phone updates and want more human-y help.

I've received a few emails/numbers to help some people out - so if anyone else wants to jump in on the bandwagon, I'd suggest offering help for other people or if you want, PM me about it.

Cheers!

I think you both are missing the point. The reason that these people are upset, is because @Droidlanding knowingly misled people into believing that the phones were out there hidden already, waiting to be found. There was a lot of time/gas/money wasted trying to search for things that weren't even there. I mean, you'd be out there looking too if you lived in a city where they tweeted that one was supposedly hidden, and you've been following since Day 1 and saw tweets like these:

REPORT: Surveillance confirms all Droid X have dispersed. Each one is in a separate site.

The missing Droid X phones aren’t going anywhere else. Unless someone finds them before you.

I am not mad as I figured that none would be in my area anyways, but if you use common sense you can see why people are upset. With that said, the release date is right around the corner anyways, so we'll all have our X's soon enough..

I did!! I went to TMS like 5 times. I even went with infrared cameras. Then went to Dallas twice. It was fun for me and the people that came with me for the hunt.

Here's the deal. I was planning on buying the phone anyway, then droidlanding started - woohoo!! free phone, a bunch of crazy clues (that will still probably come in handy when the final hints, locations, or whatever they are doing come out.) I will still probably go when they come. Will I get it... probably not... oh well back to the original plan... buying the phone that I wanted before all this started. Oh well.

I think what we have, is a bunch of people (including me) that jumped the gun and read too much into things.

Verizon did exactly what they wanted to with droidlanding, they created a $hit load of buzz about the phone. Smart whether we want to admit it or not. I certainly didn't get my feelings hurt. I laughed.

Find me one clue that was misleading. Then look at it again, and I bet it's really not as misleading as you really think. I bet most still hold true.

I'd say most of the US is a bit of a stretch. The entire west coast is not feeling any heat. Matter of fact, most of California is experiencing a strange cold front that has kept temps below average. There will most likely be a person standing out in the open, and the certificate will be placed somewhere in the vicinity of that employee.

So quick question.

I live in Dayton, OH.

And we know Droid #12 is somewhere in Ohio, but for now we're just assuming it's in Cleveland.

I guess the question is, is it insane of me to think that I might have a chance even if I drive for 3 and a half hours to Cleveland after the GPS coordinates are posted? Or is it insane of me to think that the coordinates might even be closer to Cincinnati or Dayton instead of Cleveland? Cause I still want a Droid X, and I'm willing to drive a ways even for just the sake of adventure.

OR are there any other Droids that we think might be somewhere near the southwest part of ohio? Like near Indianapolis or in Northern Kentucky?

I really don't see why so many people are hurt. They didn't give out any specific clues as to where the phones would be. The most specific they got was city level. No offense to those that went searching, but i think a lot of people were way too eager to get the phone and read way too deep into the clues. Some people were analyzing every typo and character in the tweets. Again, there were never any clues for a specific location of the phones.

In any case, tomorrow should be very exciting, there will be a lot of clues given and maybe even a certificate found

and for those that haven't noticed, almost 2000 more people started following droidlanding today. According to some news reports the contest officially started today so expect a lot more people to join over the next few days as this marketing campaign has been kicked up a notch and become a lot more mainstream.

we had a head start but everyone is aware of it now...

Considering there is only a 4 hour window in which the certificate will be available to be obtained, yes I think that driving 3 hours in hopes if getting it is a little insane. If you are 3 hours out, the chances of you getting it first are slim to none.

Just to add a little more to stanw5007's list, here is what I have as far as clues for the devices themselves. Good luck to everyone over the next few days.

Thought I would update this a bit, from another member originally

Fair enough, but how sure are we that it's even in cleveland? And could there be one in indiana or kentucky still?

none of these clues and speculations matter now!!.... were just gonna have to wait for the coordinates and find the phones within like 4 hours or someone random gets it because there not at their spot yet

Bs. People aren't upset because they aren't getting a free phone. they're upset because for 2 weeks they've been led to believe this is "how Robert Langdon are you" and now its more "who's the closest idiot to the spot when we tweet it."

this was very poorly executed.

that's all. for tonight anyway.
