YES this could be old news....but listen...My D1 will not go into night mode w navigation app when i am in the tab of navigation ......it has been written that it is supposed to go into night mode in the navigation "tab" not map "tab", but it's not...help please anybody....or am i SOL

Nope, should open with a darkened background, when you open it after sunset in your location.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling from the Market.
