NOTIFICATION PUSH - Android to Ipod

Where to start...

I know some will start hating because I'm relating something Apple with
something Android, but hear me out.

I have a very large music library, and I personally don't have enough money to
shell out for a 32gb micro sd. Even if I did, I don't believe it would fit with all
of the apps, pictures, ect.

So obviously, as seen in the title, I use an iPod. A touch to be exact. But
since I'm a student, I'm always on the go and listening to music. This makes
it hard for me to feel/hear my phone ringing; the walking, the music, and the
surrounding city.

OK, so to the point. I know some of this falls on the Apple end, but if anyone
could assist it would be incredibly appreciated. But, I was wondering if
there would be any way to push a type of incoming call notification to the
iPod (most likely through bluetooth). SMS and other notifications would
be nice, but call notifs are the most salient.

I know there has to be others out there that want to be able to be notified of
a call without strapping the phone to their leg solely to feel a small vibration.
I've looked everywhere and there isn't much in the ways of this topic. I also
know Apple is a very closed entity, but I believe the touch's BT profiles can
support something like this.

I didn't know where else to turn, and since you guys are a friendly community,
I thought you can help. :D

Pushing out to your ipod, could be done, but it would be delayed with all the syncing it will have to do.

Also depends on the type of Android Device you have. If you have an EVO, (then you shelled out some dough and can afford another SD card:p) then you can pay the extra 30 bucks a month to use your phone as a tether device for your ipod to connect wirelessly (or root what ever android you got and use native tethering)

Then a quick check on the market produced this app "SMS to Email".

The rest should should explain itself.

Due to you being a student, you might want to consider a SD card as it will be a cheaper option than paying for tether service monthly. Just save up your dollars.
 
Huh, I never thought about it that way. It's a pretty cool workaround that would work, but it's a little slow for my tastes, especially since I'm more worried about the calls. Also, it might be a pain to switch my SD back and forth every time I want to listen to music. I have a droid, so the battery would have to come out.

That's why I was wondering if there was a bluetooth option. I haven't quite had the time to delve into the matter and start developing since I'm not 100% familiar with the language, let alone whatever apple uses.
 
Well Google is coming out with it's "App Inventor" for non-programmer types. But it's not fully implemented yet. You should run over and submit your email so when it is out, you can take a swing at making your Ipod Push app. Then release it to the market for the rest of us junkies
 
Already have. :D I'm totally stoked about it, it seems to be so much faster than setting up eclipse and all that jazz. Just waiting for the invite. But if I do get the chance to program it before anyone else does, I'll definitely share the love.
 
Ah thanks, I've been using that to tether my PC when I need internet access, but I still think tethering won't fit my needs. I'm still hoping on some type of bluetooth communication.

bluetooth would work fine and would be rather easy actually. I don't currently have time to take on another project as my graphics designer and I already have a ton we are working on.

I am sure someone could pick it up for you though. It wouldn't take very long or very much effort at all.
 
Oh thanks! I didn't think it would be too hard at all. :D If you could, that would be amazing. Nothing fancy is really necessary, just a bare bones app would be perfect.

What I'm worried about, however, is the Apple side... I'm not aware of an app that allows the touch to receive that kind of info.

Hmm... I was putting more thought into it and bluetooth might not work.

First of all, does the iPod Touch even support bluetooth?

Also, I don't think the iPod Touch can run services, so you wouldn't have a way to keep the device discoverable.
 
I'm pretty sure that Apple devices don't support BlueTooth in that capacity. The only thing you can do with a BlueTooth-enabled Apple device is send songs to headphones or a call to headphones.

Then again, jonbonazzaj may be right - the iTouch may not even support BlueTooth. :D
