YES! THEY DID IT!

The DroidX root works on the Dream too! I'm in the process of it, but I was able to flash the recovery and the SPL no problem! Instructions below:

Let me know if anything doesn't work for you. I just merged the root method and flashing into one. xzterry said that if you don't get a root shell after typing the password, try pulling out the USB cord and putting it back in before typing adb shell again. I dunno, worked fine for me lol
