Root Official Unrevoked Developers have Froyo on EVO

I downloaded straight from the htc site. Did the copy over, power button and down. Then hit the black screen with red triangle. Pressed both up and down with power button. Nothing. Going to let it sit until it decides to do something.

Where did you find it on the HTC Site?

When i dl'ed the update, it was in winrar file. I renamed that file update.zip however the other guy suggested to name it as "update" and it worked!

OK, must be a windowsism with the file extensions...I'm using linux and it's a zip file.

finallly got mine working. None of the directions stated to go into recovery and then hit volume up and power and hold till the menu comes up saying update from zip. Man like pulling teeth sometimes.

I know it has been mentioned just above but prior it was not, even on the unrevoked page. gshhhh. All it said was boot into recovery buy power and volume up. Skipping that after that you have to go down to recovery and go into that.

You've got to hit the UP volume button and the power button at the same time.

Edit: whoops, reread that, guess you already have. Uh, mine worked immediately... not sure why yours is taking so long.

I have completed the update.

started at 7:35pm ET

finished at 7:50pm ET

15 mins

I finally have Froyo, I have 4G here in Altamonte Springs, FL (Orlando area)

My God, what a weekend.

Mine took a couple times of doing it and it eventually came up. I got a error message at first and then it worked.

Here's how to do it using modified PHANDROID instructions;

Want to upgrade manually yourself?

 1. Download the Android 2.2 firmware for the Evohttp://bit.ly/aCDBwh
 2. Rename the file update.zip and copy it to your microSD card via USB. [Note: make sure the file is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip.] NOTE: must be in the TOP LEVEL directory of the SD card.
 3. Power down your Evo
 4. Hold down the

Unrooted phone here - downloaded the update, put on my SD card, re-named the file to update.zip via Astro.

It all went off without a hitch. get into recovery mode, power+ vol up, and choose to update from udpate.zip.

When it's all done... everything looks exactly the same on my phone.

I am officially Froyofied. Yahooooo

For anyone that is scared they will lose all data. You won't and everything should still be there. This was holding me back from making the jump until I just said screw it, and did it anyway.

<--- installing it now... trying not to get TO excited.. I've never booted into recovery so the big red triangle over the phone symbol, scared me lol

Well, it is from the HTC web site. And version number jives with what's on Sprint's site.

Version: 3.26.651.3
Release Date: 7/30/2010

And makes sense to do it this way. Host it, punch an email out to Devs with warning could mess stuff up. HTC knows the devs will "leak" the link. All of us become testers before the "official" release.

I follow their instructions:

Download the update file and rename it to update.zip.
Place in the root of your SD card (connect via USB, transfer via bluetooth, pick your poison).
Reboot into recovery mode (hold the Up button while your phone is booting).
You will be presented with the boot loader. The up/down buttons navigate the menu, and the power button selects.
Select Bootloader.
Scroll down to Recovery and select it.
The phone will reboot again, this time into recovery.
Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip” (depending on your recovery image).
The installation process will take 15-20 minutes and a few reboots.

I make it as far as selecting Recovery, and then go to a black screen with a picture of a phone with a Red triangle and and exclamation over it. Don't see that in the instructions.

Ah, wait, if I hold power an new menu shows up now. And gives me the option to update from the SD card's update.zip file. Ok - was getting nervous.

By the way, on the first boot after the update the screen wasn't shutting off after the timeout. Just rebooted the phone and now it's working.

Oh, and so far the phone seems to boot MUCH faster than before.

loving some of the additions to email and the new android guy on phone calls. It seems so much more refined.

SO tempted to do this...but at work all night, tethering with EVO is my only internet option...if I screw it up I'm SOL all night. But it doesn't sound complicated.

Why can't I access CNN.com?

I want to test flash and every time it loads (halfway) it shuts down and stock browser closes the windows.

Anyone can access CNN.com?

For those who need help:

1. Turn your phone off
2. While holding volume down, press power
3. At the prompt, choose bootloader
4. At the next prompt, choose recovery
5. You will get to a black screen with a phone and triangle
6. Press power and volume up at the same time (I had to wait several minutes for this to work. Your experience may vary.)
7. Some blue writing will appear at the top of the screen. Select "Apply update. zip" (I renamed mine update.zip) BE SURE THAT you don't rename your file .zip.zip You should check the file name in your SD folder from your Evo, not your PC.
8. Yellow typed info will scroll on the screen. Once the update has finished it will tell you, "Reboot to finish installation."
9. Select the proper instructions for the reboot and use the power key to enter, as instructed. A weird phone with an arrow will show up and turn on and off a few times. WAIT for this to finish.

Your Evo will reboot and that's IT!!

*This is assuming you already copied it to your SD card

This worked for me. I have an UNROOTED Evo. I edited the instructions to show how to get the phone off the phone and triangle correctly. Also, I added some further instructions on checking the right name for the file and what to expect after the yellow typing info.

THIS PROCESS WILL TAKE ABOUT 15 MINUTES. BE PATIENT FOLKS AND GOOD LUCK!!
