Would the top off method work by unplugging and just plugging it in back to the wall charger? or does it have to be a computer usb?

I did the USB method, but I've graduated to just unplugging and replugging the phone in when I wake up in the morning with the supplied charger (although I got the same results with computer USB). Since I don't leave the house for about 40 minutes after I wakeup, the little replug method just initiates the charge cycle again and has been working great. I also think you could easily just plug it in to a car charger on the way to work to achieve the same results if the drive is more than 15 minutes.

My working theory is this: The phone gets to full charge overnight and then stops taking charge and runs off the battery for a while. But the widget and lock screen do not update until you actually wake up the phone and that is why the phone seems to drop so quickly, if not immediately. The meter is still faulty though.

Either way, my phone yesterday came off the charger at 6am, I didn't even plug it in last night and this morning it read 30% and is still going, down to 15% as I type this but I did play poker for about an hour this morning on it.

And what phone are you using, not sure if you read my other posts but i'm using the Samsung Moment. I love the phone but if this top off method doesn't work, I'm gonna have to return it :(

Top off method works great for me. I do something a little different though. When i wake up i unplug and plug it right back. When its says that its fully charged I then take it off and top off with the usb. Now i don't know if thats just me being crazy but it seems to give me great results. (Great results for me equals being unplugged from 7 am untill about 11 pm when i usually go back to sleep.)

Not sure if you are asking that question of me or not. However this is the the samsung moment forum I would not come in and post about a different phone, that would not be useful to anyone. If you read this whole thread on the battery you will see I have posted regularly in it. Lately I have been updating on my experiences now that I have had the phone a while and the different things I have done and the different charging setups I have tried.

Have you had any luck? I've tried all the methods listed and nothing is working. I do know when I unlock the phone to check the time I see it is downloadng something which is odd because wi fi, gps, background data usage, and all my messaging and twitter apps are closed. Anyone else experiencing this probelem?

Something is just randomly downloading? Is this happening all the time?

Yes, I've had luck, read the thread, I've posted numerous times. I can go over 24 hours with my normal usage and not have my phone need a charge. I did nothing special and I didn't limit my use or features in any way. Like I've stated numerous times now. I leave GPS and Wifi on all the time, I generally use my phone for talking 2-4 hours a day and have all my sync's going. I do not do the weather widget though, nor do I use bluetooth for anything. I surf the web alot and do play a game or two pretty much everyday. I stream pandora at lunch also.

Your problem though, I would check in spare parts to see what might be running your phone so much. My phone goes to sleep just fine.

T didn't say anythingI. Just said the android os used the most network usage. That's pretty much it. Just went to sprint and swapped out the battery. Gonna see if that's the problem

Update to this comment from earlier.

My phone was finally down to 3% (battery widget) around 6:30pm tonight. So basically 36 hours on 1 charge now. That's the life I've been seeing the past week. I use my phone normally and I'm just really impressed with how the battery life has progressed since I got it.

Started with draining it a couple times and that helped quite a bit.
Then started the top off method and that was useful also
Next, I started trying different chargers, found no real difference with USB .5a, included charger of .7a or the 1a chargers.
I then started to do the unplug/replug morning routine (basically the top off method, but I don't change the charger, just get the phone to restart the charge process while I shower/shave etc in the morning).

I wish everyone the best of luck with their battery life, but for me, I am completely satisfied with mine and like I said, I am making no concessions by turning off anything I normally use just to save battery life.

Just got a new battery today, charged it to 100%, took it off the wall charge and put it on USB and it started to charge from 90%. took it off the USB when it charged to 100, and within 10 minutes it dropped to 80%. I ran app killer to kill any unnecessary apps and also turned off background data. It could possibly just be the phones firmware like some people are saying. And if so any clue when the update is coming out? I hear 2010 but a month would be great because i'm running out of my 30 day return policy to return the phone. I forgot to ask, are you guys leaving background data on, or did you turn that off?

Naldo, what kind of use are you getting out of the battery? If you are getting a full day out of it, who cares what the meter says when you unplug. Just realize that the battery will last you all day regardless. Also, if you are not getting good battery life with this battery, you might wanna change out the whole phone.

With this phone I'm lucky to get 6 hours out of it with moderate use. Texting maybe a few voice calls and I browse the internet for like 30 minutes and it almost dies lol. It won't even make it through a work day with just text and web browsing. And the web browsing done at work is only for 20 minutes because I'm a sales floor associate. Also I'm looking at the "spare parts" app for network usage and it's telling my adroid OS since I last unplugged the phone has received 94270833 bytes and sent 102534 bytes . a total of 94373367 bytes . me using youtube and browsing the interet, app store all of it equaled only to 4233935. So apparently the android system is accessing the internet ALOT. Is there any reason why? maybe this could be the defect in my phone that is causing me to have horrible battery issues because it's always accessing the internet?

naldonnnis,

Would you be willing to do a factory reset and just run completely stock out of the box for a day and test what happens? If it continues to give you bad battery life, then you might want to swap it.

What is the "run time" versus "screen time" in the spare parts? There is obviously something running that shouldn't be. And define "almost dead"? I have read this whole thread but I have not gone back to read yours so I apologize if I am asking a redundant question. Is the phone getting warm in your pocket? Anyway, like many on here, over time my battery issues are becoming not so much of an issue. Of course I am not jackin with the phone continuously like I did when I got it. But it easily lasts a whole day under "average" use and then some. Good luck!

Sat I've done a factory reset on it about 3 days after getting it. and the run time was around 47%. The thing i'm afraid if If i swap it out for another phone, and that one acts up on me.. I won't be able to do another swap out. I have to say to all of you replying to my post, thank you so much. You guys are amazing for taking your time out to help people you don't know. Should get paid for it, know more than the sprint techs lol

Hmm, seems strange that you have a run-away app or something chewing up the CPU/battery time.

When you look at your system using spare parts or any other app, do you get any indication what is running? Does it just report android or something else?

I am having the exact same issues as Naldonnis as I'm getting only 6-12 hours overnight with very little usage. Last night I took it off the charger about 8:30PM and headed to work around 9PM. While at work I only made 2 phone calls each lasting only 5 minutes a piece or less. Received 1 SMS message then replied to it. Took about 5 Pictures with the flash on. Finally I surfed the web for maybe 2 and a half hours total (Reading androidforums). Finally my phone died at 9AM the next morning after watching about 3 youtube videos. Considering I was mostly working and not really using the phone much would you call that normal battery consumption? I would also like to point out that I have not installed any 3rd party applications except for an automatic app killer. I'm running spare parts. No 3rd party apps besides whats in the stock rom. I want to get 24 hours like some of you guys what can I do to make it better?

Theres no way you can get 24 hours with that kind of usage. My phone lasts about 14-16 hours with about the same amount of usage as you.

Maybe I'm just expecting too much coming from a Blackberry that does Push Email all day! I was hoping that I less demanding screen such as an OLED one would boost battery life quite a bit but I guess I was wrong. The two biggest things I would like from rooting is to underclock to 550-600Mhz (Which I heard thats what it should be running at anyway) and tether over Wi-Fi.

Naldo, turning in a Moment for a Moment is a warranty issue....has nothing to do with your one time no questions asked switcheroo. Now if you want a different model of phone....then, yes, you are limited to one time.

Another thing to consider.....

Many times the battery life is a "guess" based upon the current usage at that particular time. IOW, if you are in a poor coverage area, the phone has to turn up the gain on the antenna to achieve reasonable service. Your battery remaining is based upon what is going on with the phone AT THAT MOMENT.

To put it a different way.....

You know the trip computer on your car....if you floor the accelerator you will notice that your instantaneous MPG will be less than 5mpg. But when you lift off the accelerator, then it reads something more realistic. That battery icon is similar and it represents your battery life under those INSTANTANEOUS circumstances/usage. This is why you will see the battery life jump around a bit.

With all that said, I am still not seeing great battery life out of this thing.

Just signed up to post so I can reply to this message. This analogy is inaccurate, If it was an estimate on the remaining time on your battery when under load then, the gauge should read in TIME left not the PERCENTAGE of the charge left on the battery.

It shows other apps running but not unless I open them. I'm probably going to echange it out for another. I've seen internet usage kill a battery but this one drops like 20% after being on the internet not even 10 minutes. Just freaking crazy. I mean I guess its the phone but spare parts is showing extremly low cpu usage for everythin. Really leaning towards getting a hero and trust me I don't want to. Is it a possible defect of the phone or is the firmware just reading the battery inacurately?

I also forgot to mention that sometimes when I'm browsing the internet the phone gets really hot, and the app sais the batter is getting as hot as 109 degrees. I'll take the cover off and the battery is not that warm but the phone itself is. Does that have anything to do with my battery issue?
