Accessories Your choice for best Droid X case...and why?

So I just received the Ebay version of the Rocketfish case in Red.

Initial Impressions:

  • Unfortunately I do not have my previous Rocketfish case (as I just returned it) but the Ebay case appears to be darker in color.
  • It does make the phone noticeably thicker and slightly wider but I personally do not mind.
  • The texture feels slightly more grainy than the Rocketfish.
  • There is a stronger scent of the "Rubber" paint than the Rocketfish. It almost feels and smells like the case was just colored lol.
  • So far in my limited hands on, there is no discoloration of the case nor any staining on my hands (Not sure in the future though!)
  • There is some chipping along the edges of where the two pieces meet, but it's actually less apparent than my Rocketfish. (Picture #3)
Conclusion:

There certainly is a different feel than the Rocketfish case (albeit a slight one), but the price difference makes it manageable ($5.00 vs $25.00). If I would make this purchase again, I would.

Cool thing about the case:

The case includes a coin slot on the right side for users to easily dissemble! (Picture 4)

Thanks for the review. I also bought the rocketfish, but thought this one looked identical and you verified it.

I am about to buy it but I thought i would buy the car charger too. Anyone know if the ebay car chargers are ok?

Ebay Pdair droid x it is a lot cheaper than where I purchased mine. Which happens to be the link I posted in this same thread. Hope someone learns from my mistake and not all is lost. Actually it was not available on Ebay when I made my purchase but I could have waited because I do not have my X yet.

So this came in the mail today and I really like. I have Both types and the only differences are the front side edges around the phone and the hole cut outs around the phone.

Also the black one sold at verizon on the inside it has a sort of textured surface where the clear/white one does not.

The clear/white looks a lot better in person while the black looks black in person.

Based on material and not looks which one would you prefer?

I have the slightly harder blue silicone one from VZW and have literally zero complaints about the practicality and effectiveness of it. I just am not necessarily a fan of the opaque covers-I like the solid look. So I naively ordered from Amazon a what was advertised as solid white, sturdy looking silicone cover. Yesterday I received it-and not only is it the flimsy jelly type, but it is more clear than white. What a bummer. I'm sticking with the blue one for now. I have to admit I'm already scouring the stands in the malls for a cute but practical white, light pink, Hello Kitty, or some similarly girly type of case. I'm sure in time they'll be as abundant as iphone cases *shrugs* we'll see.

Just got mine.

"There is a stronger scent of the "Rubber" paint than the Rocketfish"

Yes, overtime hopefully it dies down just hope it's not lead base since it came from China.

"There is some chipping along the edges of where the two pieces meet, but it's actually less apparent than my Rocketfish."

Same, kinda, for me.

Overall, a better buy than the RocketFish. When better cases come out in the future I will most likely replace this.

Does the bottom lock holds better than Rocketfish? Mine Rocketfish case came apart at the bottom after a few hours of being put together. That one went back to the store, but I also ordered one from eBay (like the one you are discussing above) in addition to my Luxmo argyle grey clear case I'm using now.

I was holding out for the, Seidio Innocase Combo in black, but they keep pushing their shipping date back. First it was on 08/09 now it's 08/13. Taking their lead from verizon I guess.

The bottom lock for the Ebay case is still holding on strong on mine after 1 week.

Also, the aforementioned rubber smell that I initially reported has gone away after a couple days of use. So far I have no complaints with the case and think it's the best bang for your buck until the Seidio Innocase Active comes out.

Has anyone tried this Amzer case?
Amazon.com: Amzer Rubberized Snap On Case for Motorola Droid X…

I was going to get the Luxe Argyle case, but then I saw that one and now I've been debating between the 2 for some time now. From what I can tell, I think it is a hard plastic case that snaps together, as opposed to the argyle soft, bendable case. I am going to get the dock, so I am thinking the argyle case would be better since it kinda "peels" off the phone and probably wouldn't break as easily. any thoughts? does anyone know enough about this case to give me opinions on which one to get?

Luxmo Argyle soft case will give you better protection since its more shock absorbent, but at the same time not as bulky. I had a 2-piece snap on from BB (Rocketfish) and IMHO it only enhances the grip and adds scratch protection where it covered the phone. I don't think it would have been of any help if you drop the phone.

Just received my $6 case from ebay (link) on Friday. So far, I really like it, and not as thick as the VZW body glove case that I've been using. The body glove case clearly provides more protection at the expense of size.

This new ebay case has great fit, good rubberized feel to the case and it still fits well in the free costco-provided leather belt clip case, unlike the body glove one.

Much lower profile and for $6, I'm pretty happy with it in the 48hrs of use. :)

would you say that this could be the thinnest protective case out there for our phones now?

I received the $5 ebay case and it is almost identical to the rocketfish I bought from BB. I will be taking the rocketfish back to BB.

I bought the ebay case last week when it was $9. It stays closed better than the Rocketfish version, plus it covers the back speaker better. So I returned the Best Buy one.

I just got back from a week vacation, and a guy I work with had bought a blue one, and after a week and a half, it left blue coloring all over the phone where it is not covered! It looks bad. I guess you get what you pay for. I hope mine doesn't do that. Anyone else having the same issue?

I received that eBay case today as well. From outside it is identical to Rocketfish (which I already returned back to BB), but quality wise its not the same. Rocketfish was made out of some lightweight aluminum while this eBay case is a cheap plastic mold with "painted" rubber grip finish. Don't get me wrong, its a good functional case and has locks much better than Rocketfish crap (not to mention its 5 times cheaper), but I still prefer Argyle Crystal Skin Hard Gel Case (Luxmo) I got from eBay. That one offers a much better grip and protection.

I think the silicon cases from Verizon are probably the thinnest - I have one and can barely tell it's on there.

If it's the same glossy silicon I use the one complaint I have is that it is hard to push the on/off button. While the case itself is thin there is just a very thin opening to depress the button which I find bothersome. I used a verizon glove for my droid and it left plenty of space around buttons and ports....that's whats lacking with the glossy silicon.

Probably, I can't see how they can make anything thinner except the skin cases/wraps. The body glove I have is probably the most protective but thick.

True about the opening for the power button, but maybe my fingers are smaller because it doesn't cause me any trouble. The volume and camera ones are another story! Have an exacto knife I need to take to it and cut those out. Just haven't taken the time to do so yet.

I have the same case as the person above. It's durable but I find myself taking it out when I'm wearing slacks or something that wont pose a threat. This is the first case I have ever bought though.

Got the Phantomskinz in the mail today...VERY, very easy to apply and I think it looks great! I found it very forgiveable as far as giving you another chance to reposition pieces as long as you don't aply a lot of pressure to it at first. Once you start to really press down, it adheres very well.

Not sure if I'm going to leave the top pieces on it but LOVE the way the back looks and feels. Phone grip is a lot better...not that it was bad before but after holding it with these applied, it just feels better to me!

can you snap some pics of it?

For me there are 3 important things if I get a case: 1) Need to be able to replace battery easily. 2)It needs to fit into the car/home dock w/ the case on. 3)It needs to not look ridiculous. If there is one that meets all 3, i'm game. Otherwise, i'll stay naked.

I had the rocketfish and returned it after I got the $5 ebay case because they were almost identical and the ebay case had the right cutout for the back speaker.
