Why Android Will Beat iPhone and BlackBerry??

Just remember when you are throwing around all those numbers You are comparing and counting all those manufacturers and cell companies against ONE PHONE and one company. If Apple would get off it's ass and make a Phone for all the different Cell providers there would be no Android or Blackberry.

Android is beating iphone in Europe even though the iphone is available on all carriers.

^I've decided to stop responding to the "one vs. many" argument...lol I gave up on mentioning Win Mo and how the iPhone has beat Win Mo the past 2 years...

That's an interesting tidbit of info tho...but I'm sure, instead of just giving Android credit, someone will come up with a "one vs. many" reason for that one too...

In fact, the European commission also put out a report telling its employees to move in the future to iphone or android but not RIM.

We're talking 32.000 employees here.

A lot of places/governments are talking down RIM recently because they make it much, much, much harder to spy on their users due to the encryption on BBM.

Yes, you are right.. Latest in the list is India and S. Arabia... and RIM has agreed to India that they would provide codes to the government officials to peep into they messages and emails...

Also, how do you beat out Apple when they have an easy to use phone that is very appealing to the masses?

The masses? The iPhone is not, has never been, is not intended to be, and never will be a mass-market phone. It is a phone for people who don't think paying $600+ is too much for a new phone.

Android, on the other hand, is rapidly moving toward the mass-market. There are already phones out there that can be bought for less than $200, and it won't be long before we see the first Android phones at the $100 mark (and yes - that is without a contract).

It's rather amusing, since everyone - including the media - are so focused on the Droid, Desire, Legends etc. and their battles against the iPhone - when the real war is against Nokia's dominance of the feature phone market and will be won by devices like the HTC Tattoo, Wildfire and Sony Ericsson X10 Mini.

Yes! iPhone is a symbol of prestige... But Android will soon become the best mobile platform which will soon upset iPhone's market position today!

Well, people want choices and people want to show individualism. That's why you don't want to wear the same dress the others are wearing to go to prom. That's why car manufacturers create so many different models out of the same platform to sell to consumers. Mercedes might be prestigious. But if they have only one model to sell, you won't see that many people buying them and their growth will be limited.

I think the iPhone is running into this problem very soon and if Steve Jobs is smart, he should start thinking about branching out.

Can't wait for the iPhone fanboy posts...

"Wow, a slide out keyboard! That is revolutionary!"

Android is far superior to either of those phones...
Coming from a BB, In some instances I will agree. Web browsing is fantastic on an Android phone, the speed of the phone is impressive, and developer support is amazing. In other instances, messaging as one example, BB is still king. The thing is that developer support is still in full throttle mode for the Android OS and it can eventually come close to beating RIM at that game.

One platform is not going to beat out the other in every category. They are all different and thus fulfill different markets. I choose the one that best fits my needs and don't spend too much time worrying about the others.

Being a BlackBerry owner myself, I agree their BES and BIS are far superior than anybody else. But that is where their problem comes in. RIM is way too contented with their superior email server. Because of that, they fail to recognize email is just one part of the whole mobile experience....and this part is getting smaller and smaller as both iPhones and Android phones can access Exchange emails now. This is called "tunnel vision"...just focus on one little thing and unable to see the whole picture.

That's why I have been saying all along that RIM is becoming another Palm.... a great company that started the trend many years ago, but failed to respond to the market change.

Unless RIM can throw away all their existing playbooks, go back to the drawing board and create a new playbook (or business strategy) for the new era, RIM will end up like Palm and the company will cease to exist later.

RIM's secured messaging service is already facing the shut down thread in many of the countries... In US, the BB's market has come down dramatically. Now, it's time for Android and I see only iPhone that gives a little challenge on it's way to number 1. Because, iPhone is symbol of prestige for many of us.... and we don't mind spending few extra to grab one...

Good analysis. I do think that RIM got "fat, lazy, and stupid". While, contrary to Dean Wormer, that isnt a bad way to go through life, it is a dumb way to run a business. I fear that RIM is becoming another Palm as well. Now if I could figure out how to create ring profiles and set up "bedside Mode" on my Droid X I will gladly leave RIM behind.

Yes, RIM has to act on time to avoid a sudden death in the market... They should look out for more user friendly features in their applications.....

RIM just redid their market structure to make it more apple/android like. If android decides to go and make an android messenger it would decrease RIM's change of staying alive. What they should do is develop a blackberry that runs a modified version of android to get all the apps and features while still keeping what makes BB good

Just got a new Galaxy S. Turns out I can't download apps via WiFi. Had to search all day to find out I have to open some ports on my wifi router.

But, ups, the default g-mail account has to be changed. Can't just replace it with another one, nooooo, You have to reset the phone!

What a joke.

I'm a reasonable computer aware user and it takes me a day of searching. Any average user give his phone away and get a B/B or iphone. They work out of the box.

Looks great but disappointing start.

Of course, eventually it will take over the B/B for sure.

Don't worry dear.. it happens to anyone who is new to any model of phone. people are on comfort zone with their old phones. BB and iPhone has more or less same features, no matter what version it is... you will pick up Android pretty fast... and you WILL love it for sure!!!! :)

I prefer Android over iPhone and Blackberry, but lets face it, neither of them are going to "beat" the other. There all profitable products that always sell. Yes, Android is on a lot more different phones, but I think eventually Android will just become a normal OS for phones, rather then the company's own OS (I say this, but some may stay keep some, like Samsung and the TouchWiz for example) but still, I think iPhone is always going to sell, mainly because it has a lot of features, and is, arguably one of the most simple phones to use.

iPhone will have a market as long as people are tied into "Doing it the Apple way!". That market may disappear IF/WHEN someone comes up with a viable alternative to iTunes that allows the majority of users to access all their data on any device by simple plug and play methodology!

As to the argument about what is better or what will beat what.....Well, think about it like this. IF you start a child on a v-tech laptop it will quite quickly develop the necessary skillset and want to move onto a more technologically advanced system.

The dumbed down tech approach that Apple have utilised to score a march could ultimately be their undoing!

It amuses me when people use logic like this. You presume that everyone who has an Apple device has one because they are mindlessly buying into the Apple hype and want to do things the Apple way. You also argue that people will naturally progress to wanting something that is more technologically advanced.

Neither of these is true. I have an iTouch that I recently sold to a friend of mine. I sold it because I want just one device to carry around instead of carrying around an MP3 player and a phone. I enjoyed the iTouch. To me it was a great media only device that also ran productivity apps. Why does my friend want? Because he wants to do things the Apple way right? No. He does not want/need a smartphone because he doesn't want the extra cost every month. He does however want a mobile gaming platform that is primarily an MP3 player. For him, an Android phone (or any other smartphone for that matter) is a bad choice while the iTouch is perfect.

I have a DInc. It's unrooted and running all the stock apps and Sense UI. I could root it, run a custom ROM on it, upgrade it to Froyo and do all kinds of more advanced stuff on it. I have no desire to do so. I don't want to run custom ROMS, I don't want root. I'm not enough of a tech head to want any of that stuff. The fact that my current phone does more than my old phone does not make me want to do more with my current phone.

It bugs me when people have some idea that everyone who uses an Apple device is somehow a mindless sheep and is not using the device because it works for them, but they are using it because someone told them it was cool. Their needs could be satisfied by something way, way better, but they stick with the inferior device just because.

RIM and WinMo are widely used in enterprise environments. Android and iOS are not. Why? Because RIM and WinMo excel at corporate email and it's only recently that Android and iOS have done so. Even then, both iOS and Android even more so are somewhat unproven in this department. RIM and WinMo are not so popular in the consumer environment. Why is that? Because the needs/wants of the consumer are different than enterprise.

It all comes down to what you need in a device. You should've began your post by saying "iPhone will have a market as long as they make a solid device that appeals to a reasonable section of the market."

I came from the world of Iphone. I left due to the crappy dropped calls. I can't say it was fully AT&T, or Iphone.. What I do know is that since switching to Verizon I have not dropped a call in over a month now. I averaged 3.5 dropped calls a day when i was with orange.

I consider myself pretty tech savvy, not to the point of rooting, but I at least know what that is. Now that being said, I must say that Iphone/Apple do do a LOT of things VERY VERY good. The itunes integration to their devices is untouched. Not only does the itunes syn your media, but it syncs your contacts, your calenders, your outlook...etc...

I know that DROID allows a lot more customization than apple allows. Some say this is good, and some say bad. I mean lets face it there are some awesome apps out there, and there are also some fishing apps to steal your information. Apple would never allow this type of application, due to its stringent policy's for developments of the applications.

This is MY list of items that needs to be addressed. Once these are addressed, I would officially jump on the DROID is better then IOS4.

1 - Outlook integration (without 3rd party apps) (I'm referring to pop) This is the number one mail client in the world, and it is rediculous that there is no integration without paying companionlink (awesome tool) $40.

2 - Spell check needs to be way better

3 - Ability to zoom, and pinch everything. Example - you can't zoom HTML emails in gmail.

4. - Better applications from the designers. Example - Facebook - The FB app on the Iphone is amazing. It allows you to do 97% of the everything. Where as the droid app just sends you to the web browser for almost everything.

In essence - there needs to be a itunes like marketplace. I don't want to have to go to Windows media player for my media, and companionlink for my work email, and appbrain for my apps. I love all of these tools, they are great work arounds... however if you have ever been a iphone owner you know what I'm talking about... EASE OF USE

my humble opinion.

LOL I don't see what you're complaining about. If you want to change the default email associated / activated with BB it's a wipe and re-activate / set up as well. The wipe on my old BB took 45 minutes to do... yea that sucked.

Android is far superior to BB in almost all regards, so much so it's not even funny. I'm here looking at my Android, BB, and iPhones in front of me.

This is a very narrow opinion of a company that is doing quite good for itself. People like Apple products for various reasons, not only because they are drones buying anything they make.

There is plenty of market for more than one smartphone maker, so Blackberry and Apple will be around for a long time.

Well eventually they may go this route, but remember, not everyone likes the all-in-one or nothing else way of doing things. What you love about Apple is what I hated about it. I love that there are different apps and choices. It's one of the virtues of Android that's very appealing to me. But at the same time, I can understand your point of view. I guess there's no reason why there can't be the "best of both worlds" offered at some point.

BTW you should try Motorola Media Link (Windows only) for syncing. It's itunes-like in its appearance and does allow the syncing of itunes playlists.
