I like my Eris. I know that it has issues, even rooted, but I still like it.
I was incredibly envious though when my wife added a line to our Verizon account to upgrade from her non-smart phone to X prior to our NE2 date. I was even greener when I received the e-mail that her X had been shipped. I kept trying to think of anything I could do just to get my hands on her X. When she texted me today and told me she received her X, I almost couldn't stand it. I counted the minutes until I could get home and check it out.
To my amazement, I still prefer my Eris. It is smaller than the X. Even though I haven't OC'ed my phone, I couldn't tell a difference in the speeds between the two phones. Where my phone has nice curves, the X is slab-sided. The buttons on my phone are rounded and almost smooth, where I found the buttons on the X to be almost ... jagged. The Home button on my phone is on far left below the screen, while that location is taken up by the Menu button on the X (and the Home button is to the right of it).
Even the camera button on the X is ugly, a big red blemish on the side of the phone while I can still use my trackball.
I fully realize that my phone has passed it's EOL date, doesn't have nearly as fast of a processor, a lower-resolution camera, and will never get another official update, but I will keep it for at least a while longer.
To those who want or have an X, congrats and I hope you're happy with your decision. But I still like my original Eris and can foresee keeping it at least until 1/1/2011, if not the end of my two-year agreement.
That, my friends, is my two cents. (I'll get off my soapbox now.)
