Difference - Normal & Developer Version

Hi Guys,

I've got a G1 from the release in the US cause I have 2 develop software for it...
so now I'm wondering why there's a special developer-version,
so do I have to buy this one too?

where are the differences between those 2 versions?

Dev version is unlocked (SIM and hardware wise), so you can use it with carriers other than TMo

apparently that's it...there could be something about root access as well, but I could not confirm this

Note: you can use it with other carriers, but I doubt you'd have 3G if you use it on AT&T, since the G1 seems to be pretty tied to T-Mobile's 3G bands.
