Your thoughts on dxTop! Droid owners!

you're right I am looking at your screen shot but talking about dx. It look like you have a drawers pulled out like with dx but your saying that is app manager. Does it have drawers like dx?

hmm...i don't have any drawers on mine (post 54) :D in post 63, gwlaw's, there's a drawer pulled out - that's dxTop.

my screenshot, starting with Cards/Dice folder, the folders are all apps organizer folders, while the 5 icons at the bottom are a product of having dxTop installed.

Yes it was the mention of "folders" that threw me off. I now see how to get the App Org shortcuts on the home screen. Thanks!

But...how do I remove the redundant folders that I created...and the app icons that remain outside the shortcuts? I will search in the meantime just wanted to get the question out in case someone has a quick answer.

i think i understand - sorry, been a rough friday at the office.

so you're asking how to remove things off the home screens, such as extra folders or apps?

with the default home, or dxTop, you can long-press an icon and drag it down to the "trash" drawer that appears where the normal drawer(s) are.

if you're using dxTop you can just long-press the icon and there will be an option to remove shortcut.

Jestexman: glad to hear you got it working!

I bought this and GDE together with the intent to return one of them. I ended up returning GDE because once I got used to the ease of screen switching on dxTop, it was surprisingly irritating to swipe twice to get to my 4th screen with GDE. So I've uninstalled GDE and am quite happy with dxTop.

Quick question though, does anybody use themes? What themes do you use? Could have been coinceidence but when I installed a dxTop theme, the Ghost theme, I could feel that my phone was lagging but I'm not sure if it was the theme or my phone was just being slow. Anybody have any input on this? And I totally wish I could resize the beautiful widgets to fit nicely onto the application dock :( The way it looks bugs me and I can't stand it.

I don't like using themes, None of them seem to work that great on any desktop. I try to use wall paper to achieve the affect.

I just did exactly this as well. Although I thought GDE was slightly faster, especially opening apps, it felt lacking a bit, especially the bar at the bottom. I like the 5 static icons in dxTop and the single flick to any screen. Seems a bit more innovative than a simple cube animation. It also still feels faster than the default home.

I installed many of the free themes and am liking Blur and Aero. Haven't noticed any additional lag on my droid.

I noticed a couple things that arose when I was playing around with DXtop.

1. When trying to move some icons from one screen to the next, sometimes the icon won't "stick" to the position I want it to be in and it'll just go back to the original screen. It's annoying to have to line it up exactly before the icon stays on the new screen

2. I've sometimes I've been having major slowdowns when going from landscape to portrait and vice versa. Sometimes the widgets take a whil to show up again and it kinda annoys me.

3. When giong to the home screen from a program, I sometimes get that similar slowdown. I don't know why but some of my icons aren't activated upon touching them after returning to the home screen. I'd press the gmail icon and it doesn't light up until a second later. That delay makes me second guess my clicks and is also cumbersome.

That's my rant

dxTop: FAQ

Try disabling persistent mode!

I have disabled persistent mode and dxTop seems a bit snappier. Others please confirm. This may be a mode for phones with less memory.

DxTop gives me the ability to change icons .... at least the little pop-up makes me believe so. Does this not work for 3rd party apps? I made a png with a nice alpha layer and everything, but every time I select the icon, it just reverts to the normal one.

rjoudrey...would you please post a link to download the wallpaper you are using. I think it looks awesome. Thanks

I much prefer dxTop to GDE. Far less lag and FCs for me.

I installed Dxtop based on this post I love it however I do notice it being a bit laggy. My screen is not as responsive.
Also when I use the default picture frame as a widget it sometime turn white and never comes back so I have a white 2x2 box on my home screen when I use the DxTop Picture Frame I do not have this problem.

My lag issues seem to be when I click on something it takes an extra second for the item to come up.
Again so far I love the app.

Disable persistent mode for the best lag free performance!
