SE Product Blog Announces 2.1 from End Oct

By the time the update comes it will be badly outdated and SE will have a new droid phone out with droid 3.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a a SE lover for meany years but there venture in to the smartphone world has proved to me only one thing, they really misunderstod the market thay where goin for!

What a joke...
I've been eagerly awaiting Android 2.x since I first got the phone in May. Roger's happily said the update will be in Sept, and I've had my hopes up since.

I love how their post indicates "we need a couple of more weeks", yet further down it indicates End of October, at the earliest. Thats at least 4 weeks, not a couple... Not to mention the fact that they promise "roll-out from end of October and onwards", which of course means it won't be until November until any of us see an update. A couple weeks? What a blatant lie...

I will never be buying another Sony Product again, I've got a PS3 that I've had since April, and sony has continuously REMOVED more {useful} features than added in their firmware updates, not to mention the running around I've had to do in order to get mine to connect stable to PSN. (Their Customer Service, if you want to call it that, has been little to no help whatsoever). I won't be buying another sony item for my home ever (Sorry PS4), guess I will have to look to the competitors...

Yes it is very disappointing to find it put off for another month again, It is the long wait that is killing this phone, Sony really did a number on people who like to have current software, Yes the phone works great with 1.6 but like anything all the new apps have more features for 2.1 & 2.2 and after shelling out $600 you expect to have a top of the line phone, If Sony just released 2.1 with the phone it could be running 2.2 by now, There is now way it takes Sony that long to add there sony garbage into 2.1. The OS is already created so what is the hold up. They need another month for what, to finish there new phone that they will release a week after they do ship out the 2.1 update, I bet anything you will see a new Sony android phone running 2.1 or 2.2 before christmas but this time I am not buying Sony.

I am gutted but not really as fussed as other X10 users may be, as I have only just got this phone so it's not like i've been waiting too long like others have, but I understand how frustrating it must be and I do hope they release it in October.

T-MobileUKhelp tweeted me telling me that they would be releasing the update for their customers before the end of November. But t-mobile are well known for taking a long while to release updates

This was the last Sony product I have bought

This delays and lies run deep within Sony corporation, really for a japanese firm to do this is disgusting.

They did that with firmware update for TV, promisse it will do a few things with a firmware update then after half year wait they released new TV and forgot about what they said before.

They did this with the surround sound amplifier ... it was the ES version (Elevated Standards) again no firmware to fix it but new model was released.

They did this with the Blueray player, will add codecs in a firmware in June ... August now and no firmware.

Now they did this with the Xperia :)

Well done sony ... i have purchased my last product from you. At least be honest like everybody else! Know that you're a dinosaur when it comes to what people want and don't set expectation you can't achieve. By Xmas your Xperia will have as much technology as afossilized piece of wood in mobile phone terms.

I'm eagerly awaiting the delivery of my iPhone, was 3 weeks wait now only one week to to go, hopefully by then sony will relase 2.1 and i can sell the Xperia quickly. Good riddance.

Having come from from BB and RIM dragging their feet, this does not surprise or bother me.

I got mine 5 weeks back for what it offered, great reception, call quality, excellent hardware to name a few. I did not buy it based on a possible future update.

This does not change anything for me, specially when compared to my other choice this is a superior device in every other respect.

Having said that, will I upgrade? Ofcourse I absolutely will.

Thanks for posting an official statement, rosered. :)

I have put my X10 on the shelf as I can't use it. It was supposed to be a replacement for my iPhone 3Gs but since it won't do voice dialling over BlueTooth, I can't use it. Now I have to wait another month and I am pissed.

Seriously considering selling it. I tried to switch to an X1 but it was a dissapointment as well. I may be done with SE now. I would have preferred a Droid X but I can't use it in Canada.

As a clarification on my previous post, I'm not absolving SE of any responsibility with their updates, I'm just as annoyed as everyone else. It's just that I won't be ditching the X10 over it because I know from experience that its competitors aren't really that much better, even with 2.2. Doesn't mean I'll be buying another Sony Ericsson phone again, but I guess I can keep it until the next generation of Android phones come out and I have the spare money/contract freedom to upgrade.

Well I hate to say it, but this just reinforces my earlier predictions that we will be "Lucky" to get 2.1 by the end of the year in Europe and maybe Feb-Mar 2011 for us on AT&T.. Regarding their "5" screens, well I hate to tell them, but I already have "5" screens with ADW installed.... I mean Really...............

Regarding 2.2, I still hold that we will probably not see this until next summer for Europe and Nov-Dec for AT&T the earliest if at all.. Of course we all know, well hopefully "all", but 3.0 is a definate, Not Happening"!

Regarding my retention of the phone, I have adjusted my thinking to 1.6 as I feel it will be with me for a longer period of time than initially thought. So I will honker down with my X10 and 1.6 and "TRY" to make the best of what I have for the forseeable future. As of today, I have stripped everything off the phone, except the Thickbutton Keyboard and a couple other apps. I will be rooting it this weekend and that is where it will stay for at least the next 6-9 months. Oh Well....

PS: I have no plans to purchase anything else from SE. The X10 will be my final purchase.. I had intentions to buy a PS3 for my Birthday, b ut now will go with the NEW 360 that has just been released and I bought a new Pioneer Blu-Ray player today (Again, was going to use the PS3 for this, but no longer)

It's good to see that about 5 people defended SE today on the interweb. As for the thousands of comments, posts, blog articles, etc. about it today, I hope someone at SE will read just a few.

I bought the phone, patient on end of Q3. They then seemed to offer a fairly weak 2.1 update (still a few shortcomings), now it's delayed again? it's brutal and definitely makes me not want to buy a Sony product again while watching other companies continuously roll out firmware updates.

SE and Sony Playstation don't have anything to do with each other. Yes, they're all under the Sony brand but they're completely different divisions doing completely different things from one another. I don't see how not buying the PS3 is justifiable punishment for them failing to keep their promises on the Xperia X10. I just think you're punishing yourself in the end by missing out on the great games that the PlayStation has to offer.

I don't know...personally, the PlayStation has been one of my best buys for their games and Blu-Ray (which is not an issue for you anymore, I understand).

And yes, they did strip the PlayStation down from a lot of its potential but those potentials were things that I wasn't going to use it for anyway. Maybe it was something you were going to use it for and if it is, more power to you.

Having said that, the X360 is a good buy too. Not denying that. But if you're not buying the PS3 as a protest to Sony and not for any other good reason then I'd seriously ask you to reconsider. Of course, maybe you prefer the games on the X360 and that's cool too. More reason to get the 360. :)

My 2 cents. ^_^

Back on topic though, grargh, curse you SE! Though, looks like I'll have to return my phone for another one due to this WiFi problem, which'll probably take another couple of weeks to get it back since I have to send it overseas. So, by the time I get it back, probably be the end of October and the update to the fabled 2.1...if SE doesn't renege on their promise AGAIN.

Can I just say that it is a pleasure to be a phone guide on this Forum. You guys have taken the bad news like adults, yes we are all dissappointed no denying that, but none of you have spat your dummy out and had an absolutely pointless toddler tantrum like I have seen on the two other forums I go on. Yes SE suck but I still hold with the fact that I'd rather they send out a solid update than a buggy as hell one and generally none of the 2.1 changes are going to make a huge difference to my usage of the phone.

It has really appalled me the behaviour of supposedly intelligent adults on some of those Forum threads and really bought home to me what a good bunch of folk we have here. So cheers ladies and gents, I was dreading a day of rants and abuse - I needn't have worried.

Hey,

I got Xperia, and recently joined this forum and posted once or twice, but last weekend, in anger over not being able to hear my girlfriend again on a phonecall, and having to ask her to repeat herself five more times, I phoned Orange in anger, and they agreed to swap it for the HTC Desire for me.

To be fair, I have had 4 Xperia's, each one faulty in one way or another, but the last one worked fine.. except that the call volume and quality was awful as ever.

I am gutted, as I got an Xperia, and convinced my Girlfriend, and two friends to get them, and all of us are complaining that it is awful when used as a phone.

I will still be keeping tabs and reading this forum as its the best forum ive seen for mobile phones, but I feel for everyone who still has Xperia's are are experiencing issues.

The Desire for me is a brilliant "Telephone" and the Xperia was a brilliant mini laptop, shame they couldnt of combined them.

Anyway, hope SE sorts this all out.

Cheers all,

Biff.

I know it is disappointing that SE have put it forward a month, but if they were to release it now without it being complete, people would then find something else to complain about. I am annoyed they took it forward another month and I know they shouldn't have really said a date until they were absolutely sure when it was going to be released, but I for one am not giving up on the Xperia just because of this, it is the best phone i've had and having to wait a month for an update wont stop me using it.

I were expecting to get it till October anyway cause Im on Orange UK and they are poo. Looks like I wont be getting 2.1 till xmas.
Look at it differently...You were expecting a Christmas present (the second update), but will get one instead so you're one for one.
Then in the dead doldrums of winter after the winter blues set in, we'll get another one to keep the spirits up until Springtime.
The glass is half full if you so choose to observe it that way.

His xmas present (2.1) will be late as its now been put back to 2011 - unless its xmas 2011 when he gets it

I have asked the person on the other end of every one of my callss what is the quality like compared to other calls they know are from cell phones. Everybody so far- and that has been about 100 inquiries has said it sounds like you're on a cell phone- like every other, no different.
So this gets me to wondering if the network itself might be the issue as opposed to the actual phone itself.
I had the opportunity to try it out as I was in the US this weekend but Rogers in their infinite wisdom puts a block on all calls outside Canada for the first 3 months. Another reason I am on month to month with this creepy bunch. I'll be dropping them as soon as I find a viable alternative. I find them to quite arrogant in many facets of their business practices from outright lying (credit check to Equifax never happened as they claimed- I checked with Equifax itself; never told me about the foreign blocking until I had to call them from Denver stuck without cell service for 5 days). Anyway enough of a rant about poor customer service from Rogers- at least the network is functional it appears.

I thought this next update was supposed to be to 2.1, and will be in around the time of Christmas. Then 2.2 was supposed to be the update after.

edit:
I see now after reading more thoroughly 2.1 was the second in line delayed update...But what were they going to call the update they were planning for end of Q3? 2.0?

As each day passes I get more and more bored of this phone, I also wonder why on earth I bought this phone and am also coming to realise that I will never buy another Sony Ericsson. What a load of sh*t from a bunch of lying t*ss*rs. I e-mailed Sony themselves at the start of the month and this is what they had to say:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson support centre.
The update will be available by the end of September and yes it will support multi-touch.
Kind Regards,
Sony Ericsson UK Customer Services

Maybe they're going for a record to see how many lies they can tell their loyal customers? I am fuming and am practically ready to give this heap of crap phone away.

Rant over

after searching the web for x10 i finally realize how stoopid people is , the doesnt enjoy this phone sometimes its just numbers
1.6 2.1 2.2 at last normal people isnt a smartgeek nerd, i dont ask when i bough it what os does it have? i like the cam, love the screen, the apps, browser, document editor, i don need more. autoflash maybe and more than 120 secs bluetooth. tnx mate

the reason i got the Xperia X10 was because it said around the time i bought it 2.1 will be available with full exchange support including multiple exchange accounts, full calendar synch etc.

i don't really care about anything else that much, i want a bigger screen so i can use my email, calendar and ssh/citrix in emergency

what i have found out is that they lie and are not very agile, they are probably a very big company with so many managers who have no clue of core business values, i honestly look at SE no with disgrace and everything they say i honestly think you should not take it serious or expect a flip side.

After the delays and all the crap from SE i do regret buying the phone, the phone itself is OK the software on it is outdated and does not do what i expected it to do, for example a Desire would do what i need it to do, so nexus one but i just wanted the bigger screen and thought if SE is like Apple then the update should be there with no question, i was wrong.

I will be getting rid of this as soon as my iphone4 comes, yup after SE fsked up i ordered one.

Our work place was looking at replacing our phone fleet, about 200 mobile phones, and the Xperia was in the top position pending 2.1 would be released before the end of financial year which is end of this month and what do you know? i made sure it got scraped, galaxy S or iphone4, will have to test and pick one. We needed someone who when they say a fix or update gets released well we expect that with SE we know that will never happen.

I am not being a die hard fanboy for SE, but the all mighty Apple mess things up too... like the aerial on the latest version as an example and the fact that when they release os4 for the 3gs models they included a nice little bug that means the calls cut out after 5 minutes. And if you don't believe me have a look at the 80 plus pages (last time I looked) of unhappy iphone users screaming blue murder. I know all this cos hubby has the 3gs with this problem.

The Samsung also had problems as I understand it too, one that springs to mind is poor GPS and lags after a few weeks running (appears amazingly fast in the shop apparently).

What I think, is that no phone is perfect and it would seem that no manufacturer is capable of releasing the perfect phone. Its just a matter of choosing the best of the bunch to suit your requirements. My X10 suits me, it clearly doesn't suit you. Thats life!
