Google Goggles

Although I haven't gotten it to work with the few things I scanned at my desk, I have hope for this.

The biggest disappointment is that it doesn't seem to read QR Code. If so, it would at least be a replacement for Barcode Scanner. That way I would use it more regularly as goggles is improved.

Looks like it depends on how much text ends up outside the code. I can can get real close and not have extraneous text in the image, goggles decodes the QR.

Likewise. Maybe it's a 2.0-only app? It seems that the Market is smart enough to only show apps that work on the proper version of Android.

I'll bet that's it. You might need at least 1.6. Did anybody with 1.5 or 1.6 find this? Or is it Droid-only for now?

Drat! This is 1.6+. I did some more reading of the fine print. Ah well, my obsolete (3-week-old) device should get an update next quarter.

Yeah, it's a bit frustrating to have a relatively new phone that is already lagging behind, and more frustrating that Samsung won't even be clear about whether they're going to update it (not just to 2.0, but even to 1.6) or not.

So far it worked for me on :
Redskins Coffee Cup
Staples Paper Clips Box (came up with Staples stores)
Dr. Pepper Can
Picture of Kobe Bryant on PC Screen (Came up with his wife for some reason, Vanessa...lol)

Did not work on :
Rolo's Candy Package
Fiji Water Bottle

(Both of these cases I think was due to high reflectiveness, but not sure)...

Freaking COOL app!!!

My results were bizarre.
(1) :) Storage magazine gave me articles similar to those on the cover.

(3)
Samsung cell phone gave me a picture of a monument somewhere (read statue) and some other very non-cell phone related photos.

I-Caps (vitamins for your eyesight) gave me 'No Results'

Name and Address for a Diagnostic Imaging Center in Ayer, MA returned Diagnostic Imaging Centers all over the country. Correct I suppose, but not really very helpful (If I got -xrays in MA would I really then want to go to MS or KS and get them again?). I expected info. on the hospital or at least medical offices in MA?

Moto Droid 2.0.0
Updated Map Layers
Win 7

Won't start download(s) 3G or wi-fi. Frustrating! Because of 2.0.1?
Would a reboot help?
------------------------
Nevermind.
Reboot, and all is well.
Cool app!

take a shot of a business card, it OCR's the text and breaks them up into different lines, as well as one touch to add to contacts...

fricking awesome.

kg.

Ok at the bottom of the screen were some names of businesses in the area I'm at and they were moving like a compass as i moved around....anyone know about this? I can actually click on them and information comes up.

The business card scan is my favorite thing about it so far.

I really wish it read QR code better. If there's any text around one at all, it usually doesn't show me what the QR code is.

I haven't tried any barcodes, but I'm afraid they would do the same.

There is a picture of William Shatner hanging on my desk at work (long story). Google Goggles had zero trouble recognizing Bill, and googling his name.

Um, wow...

yep - if you point at a building or location it will tell you the busines that is there. On the right is a pin looking item. Click on that and a list will come up with everything found. Think it might be 20 or more that triggers it but not sure.

regards... steve
