Desire HD SOLD OUT everywhere?

I cant even express how disappointed I am at the moment.
 
I strongly suspect that current dates will slip a few more times. Perhaps Amazon are the most realistic of all.
 
I've just got off the phone with t mobile and their delivery estimate to me is up to 3 weeks. That would put it up to 5 weeks in total. I'm getting very frustrated by it all. Thinking of another phone now, something like the galaxy s. Will I regret this, is the desire worth waiting for.
 
Samsung's support has been shocking. The Galaxy S has had a lot of serious bugs (not least the GPS and the filesystem) that Samsung haven't really acknowledged and have taken a very very long time to even think about providing fixes for them. The froyo update was also delayed again and again and is only now starting to appear. To be honest I should have expected this after how thoroughly Behold and original Galaxy owners were screwed.

I would never buy another Samsung handset again.
 
Yeh massive stock issues, seems that HTC sent a heap out to mobile carriers but the stores that sell them are getting very few, i ordered one on clove a month ago and still need to wait 2 more weeks before they get it in stock.. seems like everywhere is the same, HTC is sending out alot less stock than everyone suspected.. and there were component errors recently

so irritating, want my n95 gone
 
I wouldn't trust Clove's latest estimates to be honest. I think that HTC are trying to bide their time by putting it back a few days here and a few days there. I don't think the stock will materialise for a while yet.
 
Yeah i don't think we'll see anymore stock until December. I might have to consider the Nexus S if it comes out before HTC's shipment.

I will harp on about this again and again I'm afraid. Don't buy a Samsung. Their history with supporting their devices is awful. Ok, a Nexus S will have Google chipping in on the software front but this doesn't negate the fact that Samsung's incompetent engineers and management will have to be involved and will manage to screw it up.

i have to agree with you about Samsung support etc, but this will be Google's phone. Im sure google sorted the file system and gps problems the Galaxy S was facing. Other than that what other problems is the Galaxy S facing that can't be fixed with an OTA? Because if there are any on the Nexus S, google will sort it out.
 
I generally find the Galaxy S buggy on top of the GPS/lag, but I agree Google being involved will no doubt round some edges on the Nexus S. I would also point out the Galaxy S (i9000 at least) doesn't get OTA update but instead gets them through Kies (aka the worst piece of software ever written).

Anyway, even with Google trying to push the development Samsung will still insist on being involved heavily and this will be a huge drag on updates / fixes. Bear in mind they probably provide all of the hardware drivers / negotiate with the component suppliers. This is one area where they have failed so spectacularly with the Galaxy S.
 
Samsung are terrible with providing support for their older phones (I have experienced this over many years unfortunately, but no more -- enough is enough). Once they have a new phone out, say goodbye to any support for yours (and even while yours is still new, the support is still terrible). They're already planning a new "flagship" phone for early 2011, so be careful with choosing a Galaxy S right now...
 
The way that I see things is:

I have been supportive of HTC since their beginnings, and I still see them as one of the best phone manufacturers out there (if not the best).

Since the Evo 4G was launched in the US all I have wished was for them to release a similar phone in Europe. Many leaks of the Desire HD and a ostentatious release show (only to rival those of Apple) only served to flame even more that choice.

Lets not get this wrong, the Desire HD was launched in London by HTC back in September together with the Desire Z and the HTCSense.com platform. What we are being told now is to wait until sometime in mid-December (at best), in order to get our phones. From September to December, thats 4 months!

There are things in life for which is worth waiting, but a phone?! Come on!

Almost every week there are new phones in the market now and while I agree that at the moment there isnt one that is as good as the DHD, if I have to wait 1 more month for it (again, at best) then there might be a better phone soon.

For sure, the Nexus S is something I will keep my eyes on and who knows... Maybe one more customer that HTC is loosing for a stupid reason.

Most importantly, Qualcomm (the same company that produces the processor for the DHD) are bringing out duo-core processors next year. If I get the phone in mid-December, that would mean that I get to have it for a few months before the duo-core are out.
Some say that the release of the Nexus S was delayed as Google wants them to have duo-core.

This phone is starting to reveal itself from being the best phone in the market so far, to be the biggest fiasco ever. If HTC is to sort their production problems only by the end of the year, then this phone's life time will be one of the shortest ever as Nexus S is out there, as well as duo-core very soon.

What the Desire HD / Desire Z / HTCSense.com London event showed was HTC trying to put themselfs side by side with Apple. I have to say that in this case they achieved that perfectly... With a big FAIL.

Once again, I still see HTC as one of the best out there. But in our days the differences between the best and the not so good are so slim then there must be alternatives, Im sure!


Still waiting for my Desire HD. Looking at different purchase options (as some say that a few high street shops have them). Seriously looking for an alternative.
 
I'm considering a couple of different options too.

I looked at a DZ but felt it was just a tiny bit too chunky to justify the hardware qwerty. The Moto Milestone 2 however is out in the next few days and is a touch slimmer. I'm quite tempted by that.

Another alternative I would consider if this drags on much longer might be a Droid Pro equivalent. I really do like the bb-esque form factor and if Moto announce a european version then I might go for that.

Anyway, as with you, my order is still in with Clove. We shall see if I change my mind before it shows up (currently estimated as early December I think).
 
Just got an email reply from HTC to a long and extensive email that I wrote to them yesterday. They are not admiting any production problems at their end, nor any issues with components or bugs, they are putting the stock issues down to the overwhelming demand that they received for the DHD.

Unfortunately the HTC desire HD has proved more popular than we expected. And as such, demand for the phone has remained at a high. We are constantly restocking stores all the time so all I can recommend for you is to keep checking your retailers and HTC.com for more information.

I live in Belfast - Northern Ireland, was this morning in Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse shops looking for the SIM Free version and was told that they have none in stock.
In Carphone Warehouse a nice agent told me that they receive their stock every Thursday, so to return there tomorrow, but they never know what phones they are sent, so she is not sure that they will receive any DHDs.
 
Flat lie then, isn't it. I believe Clove, handtec et al are passing on at least a large portion of what they've been told. There has been a delay of some description.
 
I dont believe that this is a HTC problem but a phoneshop problem. Why are they assuring that people will get the phone on certain days and then cancelling it and moving it forward. The fact of the matter is that HTC are sending out Desire HD's weekly but the need for this phone is too great.
 
Really quite wrong.

There have been no deliveries to independent retailers for two-three weeks. HTC has cancelled promised deliveries. The retailers have in most cases simply been passing on estimates given to them by HTC, which they have then failed to honour.
 
They're all spinning you a yarn, that's how it is these days... with everything. They all say if you cancel your order you'll lose your place in the queue. I'd love them to be able to tell what number you are in the queue; they can't, there isn't one, pot luck, a raffle.

It must be frustrating to read of those who kinda bumped into this phone & got one straight away. Yet people with long standing interest & orders get fobbed off.

Customer service is a dirty word in my book.
(although HTC's has been very good i will admit, with respect to phone support)
 
I've just cancelled my DHD order and gone for a Milestone 2 instead. I think I won't like the phone quite as much but it's a fair bit cheaper. Time will tell if it was the right decision or not.
