I'd root my phone. But it's brand new, and knowing my luck, something would go wrong as soon as I rooted it.

Wouldn't it be better to root while within the return window?

HA! I guess if you can completely brick it if something goes wrong. Otherwise you're stuck with a superuser icon and a broken phone.
