LG says they have nothing material to share right now. My response here is F U Rogers and F U LG.

I got tired of waiting for an update so I called Rogers and told them I was not happy with my 4 month old obsolete phone. They exchanged my phone with a Sony xperia x10 with android 1.6 and 2.1 promised. Maybe you can do the same. :D

i'm going to give this a try...
maybe i'll get myself a captivate!

did you have to pay advertised 3 year term price for the phone, or did they just give it to you?

Just as an FYI , as mentioned earlier, open source 2.2 for the eve is out on the following site

OpenEtna

It's working pretty well from most of the feedback I've read so far, so will be flashing my phone to it soon!

Check out the etna forums and u can dl it from there too
cheers

Just loaded Openetna 2.2 on my Eve on the Eve performs great! It's worth the effort and their online walk thru was perfect for a newb like me :)

I was in a conference call with Rogers two days ago, and they said it has cleared their testing, and will be released "very soon".

Now I'm debating whether to wait for it, or throw OE on my girl's phone...

Don't wait for that crap, throw OE on it and be done with it. :)

Done and done ^^

OpenEtna is SO much easier to install than anything on the Dream. The LG Eve is super fast now ^^.

Sorry Rogers, thanks for the efforts, but a small group of developers beat out 2 major corporations!

See I've been having major problems with the OE version since I updated...enough that I actually downgraded back down. The Bluetooth doesn't work for my car system, my phone started to constantly reboot itself, and I found performance problems with the launcher...I even tried doing the nightly builds route.

I'll wait and try the 1.6 when it comes out...did they give you an exact date XBrav?

Hi Naschmid,
Just wondering which build you used last? I noticed in a few forum posts that the rebooting and shutdowns were pretty much cured in v5. I've had a few issues (shutdowns and had to pull battery once) and my bluetooth took a few tries before my Nuvi would recognize it. I can't imagine going back though.

I'm waiting for Rogers to come out with a decent Android with a keyboard and I'll be calling for my HUP. From the chatter it could be a while though.

I suppose I should talk a bit about OpenEtna, after learning a lot from it.

It's a port of CyanogenMod. They fixed the drivers for a few parts.

As much as I love CM, I hate the fact that the default launcher is ADW Launcher. It's slow and buggy.

I always recommend a switch to LauncherPro in the market. You'll find it to be 4x faster, smoother, and has a much smaller memory footprint.

I find ADW crashes on these devices due to the high resource usage. As well, it doesn't take the "Keep Launcher in Memory" thing very nicely.

There are a whole heap of tweaks that I put on my GF's Eve that I learned from the Dream that helped, including turning off compcache, reducing VM Heap to 12m, keeping both Launcher and Messenger in memory at all times, etc. I might go into the OE forums, and suggest replacing ADW stock with LauncherPro.

Hey Annie,

I actually just recently tried v5 and still had the same problem. I'm wondering if maybe ADW is the problem as XBrav suggested.

XBrav: How do I load in this LauncherPro? Is it something I have to purchase?

Just go onto the market, search for LauncherPro. For whatever reason, it's like 8 entries down on the search. It's free. Install it. When you hit the home button, it'll ask you if you want to use ADW or LauncherPro. Select the checkbox to set as default, then click LauncherPro.

XBrav, thanks so much. I re-flashed OE and put on LauncherPro. It's making a big difference. Now, I'm just going to hope they get the bluetooth calls stable so that I can actually use my in-car system :p

I too use LauncherPro and I find it quite nice to use. My problem is that I quickly run out of room on my phone and I have to move almost everything onto my card. I don't see anyone else complaining about this. I've cleared out everything I can find, even maps.

>>naschmid: I used to have an old TomTom GPS and it didn't recognize my HTC Touch so I updated it to a Garmin. I'm wondering if it's your GPS rather than your phone that is having troubles with the BlueTooth?

I've had a few shutdowns and such but over all it's fun to play with.

>>AmazonAnnie: I have a built in bluetooth phone system in my car. OE connects to it, but when I try to make a call through it, all I get is white noise. That's why it bothers me.

as a general FYI, just got a message from RogersElise (a friend of RogersMary), the official 1.6 update is out now so you could go and use it if you wanted.

... Ah... that's too bad. I wonder if they have an update for it? My daughter's boyfriend got frustrated with his system and I've bought him a BlueAnt for Xmas. Just hope that works better.

Yeah I don't have the old system backed up so I don't know that I'd want to play with the 1.6 update on a custom ROM. I just knew it would happen though - everytime I update something to something else then the original one comes through. <sigh>

I can't use the new Market with the custom ROM either ...yet... but that's not a big issue for me at this time.

Folks, whatever you do, don't upgrade to Rogers 1.6 official (if you were thinking about it). I made the mistake...now fastboot is gone, it's slower and the battery seems to die faster.

Stay away!!

Interesting. Have you tried any rooting methods? I think you can also backtrack using the LG Update Utility, as long as you have the 10f file.

Sorry to hear that. I gave my girl OE two weeks ago, and it's been epically better than the Rogers FW. Sad to see they let ya down with that update.

XBrav, I've searched, but haven't been able to come up with anything that would let me turn it back...and the update utility isn't letting me roll it back.

Could anyone give me some help??

What I'd recommend is add me on GTalk, we can explore a few areas, see if it is possible. I won't take you down any brickable routes:
