Help My wife's phone says "Safe mode" in lower left corner...?

It has a translucent "Safe mode" message in lower left corner of all screens. She hasn't done anything to it, no apps or updates or anything. Seems to work okay.

What does this mean?

It means that the phone was booted into a special mode where 3rd party applications are not launched at startup. It's meant for troubleshooting your phone without having to do a factory reset. There is some key that she was holding down, probably by accident, while booting up her phone. Try rebooting the phone and that will exit safe mode.
