Need to backup phone for factory reset & 2.1 -> 2.2 update. Suggestions?

Hi,

I'm going to have to wipe my phone (Samsung Intercept) because I temp rooted it and took off the crapware, now Sprint's froyo update is rejecting my phone due to its unstockyness. ;)

Is it safe to use titanium backup (or something you might suggest) to restore apps to what is essentially a different OS? I wanna keep my angry birds saves and all my bookmarks and preferences, as well as contacts. I just don't wanna break anything trying to jam old model parts into a new model car, so to speak.

Any suggestions, guidance, or reminders of things not to forget?

I use mybackup pro, it backs up everything that isnt protected. It saves your messages, contacts desktop layout, installed apps and more. Best of all you can set a weekly or daily backup schedule. As far as your angry birds saves I doubt it will save that because I hear that is in a part of the phones memory that requires your phone to be rooted if you want to back it up.

Awesome, but is it safe to back stuff up from 2.1 and restore it to 2.2? There must be some apps that aren't compatible with both, aren't there?

Oh and can you tell me about "protected" stuff? I didn't know about that. Also, I can re-root my phone with z4root if need be.

That I don't know because samsung won't release froyo for those of us with the galaxy S but its the best backup app I know of thats out there. I've also suggested it to the reps at the tmobile stores I have been to.

The one thing I do recall was when I tried to restore my settings from my old G1 which was stuck with 1.6 it did screw up some things but I really doubt that will happen in your case because its the same device your putting the data on.

I used to use this other app to backup my installed apps and there was a few of them that in red it said protected and would not back them up. Its probably different now and none are locked that way but it was like that with some apps on my G1 when I got it last year.

I hate that I basically have to avoid mentioning what kind of phone I have in order to keep my posts from getting moved from where I intentionally asked a general non-phone specific question (in Android Lounge).

I know what you mean, I find it a bit irritating too, can't really recall when it the last time it was when it happened to me though.
