Sprint Samsung Intercept 2.2 update details!

hey peoples can someone post a link for the link to 2.2 so i can mannually update my phone cause ive waited 2 days and the firmware still hasnt been pushhed to my phone...

so i manually upgraded my device to froyo aLLL went fine for about 1 hour then i decider to root it but failed with one click and i delted all the folders it gave me so after i rebooted and itt took forever and now my phone is on but desnt like work the buttoms dont respond help me

I noticed a couple times yesterday my phone acting funny. 2 times, it started vibrating randomly (like I was hitting buttons) while sitting still, and both times it restarted on it's own (went to Samsung boot screen, but strangely didn't take a year to start back up). I also got one force close on the market.

I believe both times were after visits to the Market, actually. The only thing I've done different lately is install ADWLauncher, but I'd like to think that had nothing to do with it (cos it's such a strong, reliable program).

Oh! Last night, get this, my phone got stuck in landscape mode, UPSIDE DOWN!! Like, the buttons were on the left side if you held it with the wallpaper/status bar showing right side up, no lie. When I tried to power off, it just displayed a popup box that said "shutting down" with a circular loading thing, for like a minute. So, I just pulled the battery.

Anybody else's phone doing the mexican jumping bean?

You can expect some bugs flashing the update to a VM intercept. If your willing then go for it. As for 2.2 on the intercept Touchwiz was removed. Contacts(Groups) and the notification toggles are just a couple features lost. Anything Touchwiz related is gone. This is vanilla froyo for anyone wondering.

I know my Wife is a App Whore and she had issues with the 2.2 update at first.. i ended up whipping the phone ins recovery and now it works great.. She has a lot of apps that will not work with 2.2

I actually used to be a guide but couldn't dedicate enough straight time to the forum on the moment section which is my phone. My wife has the intercept and we are slowly getting it set up the way she prefers. I think a sub forum for VM would be great considering a different kernel is required for each phone. I hope a guide or Moderator does step in and merge some threads. I may ask pastafarian from the moment section to help reach someone on this and suggest the best way to Route posts.

What was the point of moving my own thread into a thread about something else? Isn't that why we have an intercept forum, rather than an intercept thread on some main forum?

I live in IL,Chicago. I have a Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept. Will I get the update? Did anyone around this area get it? What time should I start to see the update? Does it make a difference that my carrier is Virgin Mobile?

Oh look, Eldin's spamming all got merged, and the chickens come home to roost. LMAO.

Ha ha!. Pasta is trying to clean up the forum is all Bill. I think it will work out was he has combined most of the 2.2 Info threads and then sort out the info to go up top and the questions below. It would be nice to have a how to thread for 2.2 update, how to root/recovery thread for 2.2 and then some basic troubleshooting that can be pulled from this as well. I have starting editing my post above to include tips that solved issues in other threads that are getting merged so if it gets moved up more people see it quicker.

I emailed Vm asking if we will get the update and i got back...

If this is true, then that's great!

That is Froyo in general. Those would be the differences that one could see going from Eclair to Froyo. In our case our phone resolution will only display at its max capabilities. I am trying to find time after work this week to test out some of the things on this list that apply to the intercept.

My phone has had some issues following the OTA update. google GPS no longer opens. It simply spins the little loading circle forever. Sprint Nav works well however thankfully.

My phone has also frozen up completely, requiring me to remove the battery and restart. It then told me I had only 7 % battery remaining. I had it fully charged and unplugged an hour before the freeze-up at which time it was completely charged. However, on the car charger after an hour it then said it was fully charged again.

And I could be wrong, but despite Sprint's claims, I swear the battery drains faster now. Used to be I could skip a night of charging, now I feel I have to charge it every night. It seems to drain faster with wifi open than it used to.

And has anyone else noticed that youtube videos all seem to open in better quality now? Granted, if I don't use wifi they still freeze up after a couple minutes, but every video I have looked at over the network has opened in high quality rather than the really grainy quality that used to be the default pre update.

Also, sprint TV now actually seems to work for me.

Lastly, on my phone the icon at the top that used to read EVDO or 1x now reads 3G. Since it works faster, does that mean the phone is now actually using a different type of connection to browse?

That is everything I have noticed altered on my phone since the update.

I have to ask this only because I used to suffer the same issue. When you applied the update was your battery full? If not this could be the issue. I can tell you how to wipe the battery stats and start fresh but it isn't easy unless you are rooted and have root explorer are are familiar with adb during recovery. This is why with any flash or update you should always have your battery fully charged. Many have said you tube looks much better and it is rumored that the drivers in the 2.2 kernel are updated for the chipset. Also why Some say angry birds looks great now without adding gl drivers. EV and 3G are just .png changes. Android uses 3G for most carriers but Sprint uses EVDO. I really think Sprint let this go with less invasion to allow the more vanilla experience. I think google wants you to use GPS assist if I am not mistaken. Try checking that and see what you get under location in the menu. Please post back if this fixes it. I can add it to the primary post for info if others have the same issue.

I will post back when I have attempted those things. My battery was full when I did the update because I saw the notice when I was getting ready to leave in the morning after having charged it for a night.

I am not experienced in rooting, only with the vanilla phone. My battery does seem to be functioning better, but I will still attempt to work with google GPS.

Anything you can post back would be great. Especially if a different fix is needed. I do understand in the port of JIT compiler(what everyne on the 2.1 wanted out of 2.2 the most next to apps2sd) is it takes a few power cycles to set in correctly as well so maybe a few times running the battery down and recharging will let it cycle properly. Not sure if this was the ported version having na issue or 2.2 in general.

I just assumed they were referring to the known method we've been talking about all over the forums?

I have been having some issues after the update as well. For the most part, it's working ok, but now it force closes the system. As in, the phone is sitting on the table and all of a sudden I get the FC vibrate sequence (1 vibrate, pause, 3 fast vibrates together--it's what it does when an app force closes), then after the vibrates, I can't get the screen to turn on, with either the power/end button, or by sliding the phone open. Have to pull the battery and restart. Has done this twice now since last night.

Also, last night it removed some of my icons from my home pages. The apps were still on the phone, just not on the home pages. Then after the system force close last night, it had removed 3 of my apps. I've been using these apps for a while with no issues so I'm sure it's not them.

I have done several restarts and a hard reset, and no better. Almost seems worse after the hard reset, actually. Also I don't root, so this is a stock phone. If anyone has experienced this or has any ideas how to fix it, I'd appreciate the comments/help.

thanks!
