"My Location" widget stuck for 3 days on "Updating..."

Hello everybody.
I have a problem with "My Location" being stuck on "Updating..." for 3 days now and Weather app/widgets current location stuck on Egipt, but no particular city such as Cairo, Aswan, Alexandria etc.
I've been on vacation in Egipt and both apps worked well before that, while there and before coming back and switching to airplane mode.
Latitude/Google Maps shows the correct location both on the phone and on my friends' computers and phones, iGo8 is correct, both Premium and Google Navigation apps show the current position correctly, GPS data is correct as well, as shown by "GPS Status".
I've tried reinstalling the Location app, forced stopped it, cleared data and cache, restarted the phone, shut down the phone and removed battery. I've enabled all location methods (cells, GPS, Wi-Fi), I've driven around town for a couple of hours with the phone on the dashboard.
If i "click" the "My Location" widget, it shows the map centered somewhere on Taiwan, but no green bubble/arrow and often exits the app. If I go to the menu and select the "My location" button, it centers the map correctly, displays "Updating my location" but nothing happens.
A couple of hours ago the app said it nedds to update some maps, so it's been downloading almost all Europe.
Also before switching to airplane mode, I've started downloading a system update on the airport's wireless network, that finished and installed when i got home.
Anybody has any ideas what's wrong? I don't want a factory reset. The phone is a HTC Desire HD.
Thanks in advance.

I've managed to get a location for the weather widget and app, apparently by turning on the "Auto Sync" feature.

"My Location" widget is still stuck on updating and when tapped it displays the street in Taiwan (perhaps where the HTC factory is?) rather than the current location, that is however correctly marked with a green dot/arrow and comes up when I call it from the menu.

I've removed the widget completely until somebody suggests a solution that I haven't tried.

Have you already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the offending widget(s)? And I mean the applications that are behnd the widgets, not just the widget itself.

Can't do that, the uninstall buttons are disabled (grayed out), as for all apps that come with the device. I haven't tried to root it yet.
The "Locations" app has a reinstall/recover function, I've used that about 5 times already, no change.

Try going to menu>settings>applications>Manage applications and find the widget app. Clear the cache and the app data. Then restart your phone.

As mentioned in the first post, I've already tried that. Restarted both cold and hot, even removed the battery and waited for a couple of minutes before putting it back. I've just tried it again, no change. Maybe it's a bug in the system update that has just installed before things started to go wrong?

Hi Danoots,

Having the exact same problem here, after having been for holidays in France, Locations keeps thinking it's still there... wish we were! ;)

Did you find a solution? htc helpdesk told me to do a hard reset as well, but I hesitate... Don't know my phone that well yet, and afraid I will loose more than I care for...

looking forward to your response, hope you can help me out!
