What's this "record player" you speak of? (I kid. I'm old enough to remember my grandparents having a "hifi" and my parents even had an old victrola.)
Seriously, though, I'd check ebay or craigslist if you're wanting cheap-but-good. I'd include "turntable" in the search terms, though.

well I had a good one I got used from a friend. But I had to keep fixing it because he treated it poorly.. So now I have none =( CL has nothing decent in my area and ebay gets sketchier by the day... I think I may just wait it out till I can afford a really nice one again. =/

If you have some high end pawn shops look there.

The pawn shops around here are pretty bad, most of the stuff is stolen or in terrible condition. Next time I go out to NY I think I am going to stay an extra day and just shop around... I have trouble finding records here, let alone a turntable. Our "best" record store has only like (two) twenty feet aisles of records..
Isn't that supposed to have a dog sitting next to it?
But of course, it would't be complete without the dog....
