[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I wouldn't worry about it too much, talk to the right people on the right day and VZW is always willing to upgrade

totally agree. it all depends on who you get on the phone, or even in the store. store managers are able to upgrade you anytime they want, it's been done for me twice over the years. csr's can do it too but they may need permission from a supervisor, i was shot down a couple months back when trying to upgrade my wifes line early D:....but its worked before. if this phone comes out before the end of feb i may need start begging some csr's for an upgrade, i got the incredible on launch day(april 29th)so i can't do my annual upgrade till end of feb or march 1st. unless i use a family members upgrade...which i've been known to do ;)

I would say based on the current state of the software, it's not close.

no then it will release soon because verizon loves to launch phones with lots of bugs and then put out multiple ota's within a week or so. Typical verizon. By this time the software should be polished how can dev's make better software in a shorter amount of time when verizon and others pay people to do this???

If you knew the state of the software you would know why...

then why announce it at CES if its not going to be out for months? Seems like a waste to me if you dont have a working model with functional software then why announce it? Verizon is turning into a real joke with these phones as sad as it is I may just wait and get the iphone when it comes to verizon atleast then the software will work and not have a million bugs..smh

Who said months? I said based on the current status I wouldn't put it out till the end of Jan/early February at the earliest. That's not that long and gives them the time they need to iron out at least the major bugs.

Why announce it at CES? Why not? They're going to be discussing their 4G network. Who knows, maybe those units will be the first to get the updated software...

So what will make this phone better than the Droid X? 4.3" screen, 1Ghz single core clock, I assume fairly similar RAM/ROM. The only thing I can come up with is LTE and the fact it is HTC.

There are still quite a few things that will make this device better than the Droid X..

If I may give my little twist to this. I would think that NKT would not want to say anything that would jeopardize his trusted status as a tester of pre-productions devices....if that is indeed his particular superpower. If details are traced back to him, he's cut off. There could even be more severe consequences if he's signed something. We probably don't want to badger him too much either, it's be really easy for him to just walk away.
