[RELEASED] The 4.3 inch "Thunderbolt" aka "Mecha" aka "Incredible HD" from HTC...beyond coming soon!

I'm sorry to be yet another person to jump out and call that phone a fail before the actual specs are released but I guess I'm about to go there.

Basically we are waiting for a phone that will run technology that has been out for right around a year now. Funny thing is that its also virtually the same technology that most people here already have (assuming that most of the readers here own an incredible like myself.)

Let's do the breakdown of what we're expecting improvements on here:

FFC - really don't see how this could be useful to my daily life. Maybe for some teenagers who want to take sexting to a whole new level, but not me... no thanks.

New sense - not really. I already have an HTC phone so it will be coming my way in due time.

4.3 screen - have to be honest here, its the one thing I thought i wanted until I saw how beautiful AMOLED was versus washed out LCD screen. Make the screen as big as you want, but if it doesn't have AMOLED or SAMOLED I'm just not interested anymore.

4G - don't get me wrong I'm excited for LTE, but if this is the one true selling feature here then maybe you should talk to us in another 6 - 12 months when more then 5% of people have coverage that VZW will be so gracious to charge $10 more a month for regardless of whether you will stand a chance of using the service.

To top it all off I get to conveniently use my last NE2 upgrade EVER on this phone and be stuck with it for the next two years while I get to watch everyone else around me pimp out their dual core phone a few short months later. Say what you will, but dual core WILL be the next big thing in cell phone tech. Regardless of whether dual core can be used NOW or not is not the point. What will developers be basing the software on in the future?..... that's right dual core. And you better think carefully now because its a decision you'll need to live with of the next 20 months or pay out the A$$.

Let's call this out for what it really is..... an HTC marketing driven over-hyped cash grab. This is simply HTC's way of trying to grab up a few dollars before all of the competition grabs their market share. A way of saying, "Sorry we haven't improved anything in the last year, but can i have your money anyways?"

It's really too bad because I love what I've seen from my HTC Incredible. I'm simply not falling for it.

True, the DINC screen looks great but I need a larger screen. I assume the TB can be returned for a full refund if we try it out and it's a huge let down.

Release date looks like it should be very soon based on all the indicators listed above.....I can't wait for the next toy to come out!!!!

Are there any plans to make a tablet with phone capabilities?

People would probably choose this over the dualies because of the UI. As for the Evo, not everyone wants Sprint and LTE will have faster speeds. I don't know how battery life will compare to the Evo.

(I hope there are some this vs EVO reviews asap as well as dual core handsets at CES)

So, the Thunderbolt (Q1 2011) has not improved on anything from the Eris (Q4 2009)? When the Incredible came out, the Eris was the red headed step child, and that was 6 months later.

I can agree with that. It sucks a$$ but it REALLY looks like that's what's going to happen. I'm not getting my hopes up when its pretty clear that a majority of us are going to be let down. If i wanted an evo on verizon i would have bought an evo and brought it to verizon!!

Honestly I don't think I'd buy a handset that doesn't have an FFC, utilize it taking pics with family-friends as well as the kickstand for videos-sideshows etc..(but I also want a built-in pico projector:))

If I was the kind of person who actually used the handset more for constant phonecalls, I probably would have got the lightweight Nexus S but I try to avoid phonecalls (like dumbphones) as much as possible because I find them too often inefficient while I actually still enjoy the extra dimension of videocalls from family-friends & I'm not a teenager.

Dual core also seems to offer much higher quality video capture (still want to see 1080p 30 fps capture samples), graphic performance & even full HDMI mirroring, things my current EVO could certainly use an upgrade in..

I would have been so psyched if this was dual core as I really like the form factor but I'm otherwise glad Verizon is finally getting handsets I'd actually like to check out. Let's see what they do with pricing..

For me it's about convergence (& versatility), why carry around multiple devices when a handset should be able to multitask..:cool:
 
No HDMI support. That sucks especially with LTE. I would like to stream media content and output it to my TV. So for example, if my cable/internet goes out and I want to watch a game. Use my cell phone to stream internet media and output the video to my tv. I am not calling fail, but I would have loved to see HDMI.
 
damn, i like that 1926 quadrant score. i love the style of the phone. i cant say enough how i love sense, especially 2.5. it has the htc cached maps. nice piece for sure. it is not a fail for the majority of the buying public, it is a fail for me however. i need everything this phone has with dual core and hdmi. im not buying until that comes out.
 
No go for me. Looks to have less features than the Evo does, which has been out since June. I'll keep my Evo and wait for an LTE dual core device this fall.
 
Well.. its not a bad phone but surely not what most of us were wishing. That being said I will still be getting it.
 
i don't see how this device could be a the one after my dream phone. not with the rumored specs at least.

I believe I will get the Thunderbolt for my wife's birthday in February, assuming it's out by then. I'm quite happy with my Dinc for now (except for the *cheap feel* of the plastic door that creaks every time I hold it), so I think I can wait for the dual core phone. The two things most important to me are equal: 4.3" screen or larger, and dual-core processor.

Ditto, but you could really say the same going from the Inc to the Archos ;)

Archos only has 230mb app space, 256mb ram and capped at 800mhz. French sure can cook and every now an then make a good movie "Mark of the Wolf", but they sure can screw hardware up.
 
Folks, unless you are rich, what is the point of LTE? Guarantee most of you media nuts will burn through your gigs- post haste. There has already been articles questioning the pricing and practicality of LTE- due to the pricing.

Seems VZW would be better served offering a $60 unlimited for LTE and keep the $30 plan for 3G.

My work will be paying/providing so cost isn't all that big of a deal. However, if is wayyyyy to costly, they will not go for it.
