Can't get any TASKER profiles to activate :/

I just bought and installed Tasker, and have read all of the instructions I could find, but for some reason I cannot get any profiles to actually activate!

First, I have a new Samsung Intercept.

The Tasker notification in my notification bar says "No active profiles". When inside the Tasker screen, the "On" button is green, and everything seems to be setup fine, but nothing works.

The very simple task I have set up is to just open PowerAmp when headphones are plugged in.

Thank you to anyone who can help me get this working!

Try clicking on the profile you want to apply and then click the apply button at the bottom, near the on button. I noticed sometimes after that, it took a few seconds for it to apply.

Just tried that and it is still inactive. Should the icon to the right of the profile show a green check mark, or a red circle? I've tried it both ways of course, but cant tell which is on or off.

I also was going to show a screenshot, but it seems that only rooted devices can use screengrab software :(

Green Check mark shows it's active.

Did you build your profile based on the wiki sample? Launch Music App When Headset Inserted - Tasker Wiki

Try just playing a sound / vibrate when the headset is inserted (ie checking if the headset event is being picked up).
Have you tried a non-hardware event - eg time of day - to trigger PowerAmp?

Thanks for the reply. I changed the task to just simply flash some text. Saved everything, green On light and green checkmark are visible, and hit Apply. The notification bar still says "No active profiles", and nothing happens when I plug in my headphones :(

Weird because Im not exactly a technological newb, trust me. Maybe Im just too high (if there is such a thing), but its crazy that getting my first profile to run would be such a challenge.

Thanks for any help :)

I'd see if a non headset triggered profile works. If not, then post a query on the Google group for Tasker, and see if anyone has the same model phone and can assist. I'm afraid I've never had any problems running profiles on a stock N1.

Haha, I decided to just remove and re-install Tasker. Well, it seems to have fixed it! I just tried the same task as above and it worked just fine! The profile name also turns green within Tasker, which wasn't happening before.

Thanks for the help and effort! Ill be up all night geeking out on this thing now lmao

peace.

I'm having a somewhat similar issue. The 3 location based profiles I have do work. But they don't always become active by themselves. I leave GPS on 24/7 so it should have a good signal at some point. I can enter the dead center of my location selected, sit there for 5 minutes, and nothing happens. If I go into the app, attempt to edit the task but click "test", the whole profile become active and works correctly. It's almost like the app doesn't check my current location often enough to switch profiles when I need it to.

I think I'm right here, but the test function only tests the task, not the context, so it wouldn't matter where you were when you run the test.

I can't help with triggering of the task from Tasker itself, but I can recommend another app that does this very well. "Setting Profiles" can change profiles on location triggers and it can use GPS, network and phone cell criteria. As I don't leave my GPS on, I use the phone cell criteria most and it's very reliable as long as you spend enough time training it to remember all the cells in your vicinity and your various locations aren't too close that they share phone cells. If your GPS issue is actually related to the GPS function of the phone itself, rather than tasker, then I'd assume any profiler that uses GPS will have the same problem you're seeing, but Setting Profiles is definitely a good alternative. I actually use both this and Tasker for profiling, depending on what I want my profile to achieve.

Can you tell us what the easiest one of your profile is supposed to do? And then post the context and tasks you associated.

It could be a problem with your contexts...

I paid $7 for Tasker.... I'm going to get Tasker to work. lol

I have a profile called "home" that uses location. Tasker opens the map and I clicked "get fix" with both net and gps on. It pins my location with great accuracy. I use that location. My task for entering this profile is WiFi ON, Bluetooh OFF, Ringer Volume 7, Silent Mode OFF. I then have an exit task set to WiFi OFF and Bluetooth ON.

Once in a great while, it will notice that I've left home and trigger to no active profile (as it should). But then I come back home and it never triggers back into the home profile. Or if I was to enter another location area I've setup, it doesn't trigger as it should.

To make your Wifi On profile to work you actually need to set two profiles.

Profile 1 = Near Home

Context:
Set location to like you already did, BUT
-Don't use GPS to do this (wastes too much battery for little gain) - Tasker is great, but it's GPS use is not efficient.
-Set the Miles/KM to at least 2KM (1-2 miles)

Entry Task: Wifi On (that's the only task)

Exit Task: Wifi Off

-----what this profile does is make sure that your Wifi radio turns on when you're in range of your home cell towers. Because cell tower accuracy isn't high, you need to set a wider range to make sure your Wifi radio turns on

************************************
Profile 2 - Home

Context:
Wifi Near - your home wifi

Entry Task:
Set all your preferences, backlight, volumes, even change wallpaper if you want.

----
With the above 2 profiles, my wifi and home settifngs worked flawlessly...

Here's the kicker...

I've since disabled my Near Home profile and installed Y5 to establish my wifi on/off.

I usually want Tasker to do everything it can and not rely on 3rd party apps to do what Tasker can do...but I finally bit the bullet with Y5 because there's a few restaurants that I go to that offer wifi and I didn't want to have to set profiles for automatically turning Wifi on at those restaurants. Y5 handles that for me and I don't have to create new profiles for every restaurant with wifi. Y5 uses cell towers automatically. Check it out.

A few questions for you:

How precise do you need to be on location to achieve what you are trying to do?

What is the distance parameter set to in your location parameters (eg 2km, etc)?

What are your settings in Tasker preferences for the following:
- GPS Check Seconds
- Network Location Check seconds
- Display Off timings

You mentioned previously that you can wait at your home location for 5 minutes without the profile activating. Is this true when the phone is active (ie with display on)?

Personally I use only Net location and Cell Near for my 2 location based profiles, and find they work well. I don't need very specific locales, so I don't bother with the GPS.
Also this Tasker location guide is useful (if you've not already seen it)..

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try a few of these things out and see what happens.... then post back up.

I probably need something more accurate than 2 miles. My home is only about 1 1/2-ish miles from another location I have set. I can't have a ringer there, but want ringer in my house.:)

GPS Check=120seconds
Network Locations=30 seconds
All Checks=600 seconds
Timeout=60seconds

As for the profiles working while I have the display on or off, I don't know.

it might be worth testing your profiles again, making sure that your phone display is on when testing. With all checks set to 600, location will only be checked every 10 mins.
You could also try switching logging on in Tasker (debug to sd) and taking a look at the log file to see what's going on behind the scenes.

As far as the 'no active notifications...' : Don't know if this will help but...A profile will show as "active" only when the context (an event, a state, etc.) actually occurs. Even though the profile is "enabled" (green check mark), it will not show as "active" (profile name is in green) unless the event occurs. So you might have a CallBlock type of profile the context of which is "incoming call". This may be "enabled" but will not show as "active" until there is actually an incoming call. And it will show as inactive when the call ends. Hope this helps.

Tap the existing task to get the 'Task Options' menu (Add Task, Edit, Rename, Reselect)

You can add 1 Entry task and 1 Exit Task only.

However, you can have the tasks call on other tasks or simply build all the tasks into one task.

For example, in my profiles, I enter all the brightness and individual volume settings to the Task. Then inside the Main task, I add "Perform Task" which then calls on the separate Lock and Unlock Keyguard tasks that I created.

I have a seprate task for Locking and Unlocking my keyguard because for some reason having this IN the profile itself did not work consistently, but calling upon it as a subtask within a Task works well. IDK

So the tasks for my Home profile looks like this:
Context (I set to my Home Wifi Near)

Entry Task:
Set %Home = 1
All volume settings
Autobrightness Off
Brightness = 0
Perform Task > Unlock

Exit Task
Set %Home = 0
Perform Task > Decision

...where Decision automatically activates another Profile.

<snip>

I also have a range of common tasks called from other tasks.

However I do have the ability to add a second entry task to (most) of my profiles at present - perhaps because the majority are driven by Event contexts? This is only where there is no ability to add an exit task though

I'm having this same exact problem except that my phone is the HTC Evo 3d and it is rooted with a synergy Rom.

I have scoured the internet looking for possible clues as to why tasker doesn't acknowledge a single profile I create (and I've created quite a few simple ones) no matter how many times I check and re-check the profile creation process... I've looked up and read dozens of examples of others doing the same thing and can't figure out why they're having the success and I'm not :(

Please... please can someone help me? I'm dying to play with this thing!!!

And yes, I tried re-installing it 12 times as well... I'm running the trial version recommended by the developer himself

I am also having the problem of not being able to activate my Tasker profiles and apply the settings. I dont know if i just cant find the button to press or if its a glitch that hasnt had an update come out for it yet. nevertheless, I am trying to make it to where my display turns off whenever I text a certain person, but I can't figure out how to activate my profiles. I have researched and looked EVERYWHERE but can't seem to find anyone that knows how to active a Tasker profile other than to save them or turn them on, which ive done and hasnt worked, so im stuck. Also, I wish to be able to automatically turn my display on when I receive a text message, but the option is in red letters and it doesn't even let me choose that task, so I was wondering why that was as well.

I've tried at least 10 times to get different versions of Tasker to work on multiple phones. Never seems to. So aggravating for an app that I paid plenty for.
