Voice to Text

I have a Droid 2 with very few added apps.

Is it built in for me to be able to voice respond to a text or email?

I see the voice thing pop up at times when I'm texting ('cause I accidentally hit the microphone icon instead of the space bar), so it seems there should be something there.

Also, although I haven't tried it yet, there seems to also be a voice command thing option in my my default (google) navigator.

I keep hearing about people downloading voice-to-text apps, so I wasn't sure if we already have them or if it's something I need to download first.

Hey,

So yes, that button (on the keyboard and google nav) is meant for the user to say sentences into the microphone and it translates it into text. The only real problem is the grammar, it just puts all of the text but nothing else. Not too much a problem as it only takes a short while to go and correct...

Give it a shot...

If you want a really good one that works I would recommend Vlingo. It does need 3G but it is awesome for when you are in Car mode and so far it works the best..

Thanks, I will. I just have to remember to experiment with it... NOT while I'm at work or driving... which seem to be the only times I think of it. D'oh!

I'm okay with my own grammar ("t just puts all of the text but nothing else"), but wonder if I can also dictate the punctuation. Ha! I'll have to play with it and see.

So far, I wasn't overly impressed with my ability to get the navigator to understand what I wanted... but again, I didn't have much of an opportunity to experiment.

Thanks. I did read about that one just a bit here on the forums.

If I get frustrated with (what I'm assuming is) the built in or default one on my Droid, I'll look into Vlingo. :-)

had vlingo, really slow program but before i removed it i was pretty satisfied about all it could do. car mode was pretty awesome thats all i would use it for. dont even need to be in a car for it to be usefull.
