Help Samsung Galaxy S - Indian thread

Try holding a phone with aluminium unibody like htc hero/htc legend/iphone4 and you will change your mind about plastic body.

p/s You need to hold the iphone4 the right way to make a call :p

Samsung are struggling to give froyo update to US users. Doubt it will come in near future. Try use a "kies registry hack" to get 2.2.1.

Good for you! I suggest flashing optimized kernels like hardcore/super optimized/damian gto

You can also try a few modems that will give you the best battery & radio performance. JPX may seem the best.

Bro,

can you give the link for kies registry hack?

also like to know can i flash 2.2.1 over my 2.2 middle east/africa version.

also advice the full and correct version number i need to enter in the kies registry hack.

cheers

optimus prime is JPU based right? There's newer kernel which is JPX that has been open-sourced.

You might want to flash hardcore's speedmod kernel, YA-OK, super optimized kernel, damian gto kernel.

hardcore seems to be the most actively developed and one of the most reliable ones.

Need serious help!! My phone is not getting detected even in mass storage mode (with debugging enabled/disabled). I

have already tried changing the usb cables, or connecting to another port/computer. This happened after I updgraded

from Darky's v7 to v7.6.

So, finally I factory reset the phone and loaded a custom JPY rom created using Doc's ROM Kitchen. Still, the

problem persists. I am not talking about kies detection issue. (Now, in the device manager also, the phone is not

listed).

When going to clockwork mod recovery, (under mounts and storage) the sdcard (/mnt/sdcard) is listed as unmounted (earlier in 7.6 , it was the /data which was listed as unmounted) . Could it possibly be an issue related to that?

Please HELP!! I just want some suggestions, to try.

EDIT: Just wanted to add, that transferring files over bluetooth from lap to mobile, also is not working
icon_sad.gif
. However mobile to mobile bluetooth transfer still works.
Also when connecting to USB, the phone is able to charge.

Have you held an actual metal phone though? My friend has a HTC Desire, and it's quite heavy in comparison to the Galaxy S. IPhone4 is even heavier.

I had a Moto Razr for a long time. It was one of the earliest phones to come with an anodized aluminium body I think.

Just puzzled, but are you in support of a heavier phone?

---
@gmhafiz Maybe you're right, but it's kinda hard to go from light and warm plastic to slightly heavier metal

No. I wasn't aware that it was confusing :P

Have to admit though, the Galaxy S is so light that it can be unnerving sometimes. I feel like it's going to slip out of my hand. It could be just the thickness though.

Dear all,

I recently updated my phone to 2.2. My current version is as follows
PDA: I9000DDJP6
PHONE: I9000DDJP2
CSC: I9000ODDJP5
BUILD INFO: 2010.11

I am really not happy with this official Indian update from 2.1 to 2.2 ].

I have heard that 2.2.1 version is more fast. I think 2.2.1 is not yet officially released in India. Can anyone please direct me how to get 2.2.1 version in India via kies registry hack or something else.

Thanks for help in advance!

Rahul

I'll finally be getting the Galaxy S on Monday - I was able to find a store which has it availalble. Just wanted to know whether Android 2.2 is available for update in India for Galaxy S? If so, how would I update? Can I take it to a service center or would I need to use Kies?

buy sgs from ebay...especially from a person who lives in mumbai or near ur location so u can meet him n take a good look at the handset.i did the same and got it for 21k and it was only used for 2 weeks.btw i know this has been said many times....but the screen is juz gorgeous.cant take my eyes of it.i dont even watch tv shows or movies on my lcd monitor.:):)

according to me the plasticky body of sgs adds to the lightness of the sgs.and i think samsung deliberately did it.anywayz it doesnt actually feel cheap coz nobody looks at the body first.your eyes get fixated to the awesome display.

Thanks for your post dude .... did a google search and got instructions on upgrading to 2.2.1 ....

successfully updated to 2.2.1 .... all apps and data intact ... found a marked improvement in opening basic apps like dialler, contacts, messaging etc ....

I guess the folks having lag issues should try updating to 2.2.1 :)

After following these steps and flashing SGS with 2.2.1, will I receive official updates as well thru kies??

Yes we can ... we have to remove the registry patch ...

Thanks.

Suppose I install 2.2.1 on my phone through the registry patch. And later I remove the registry patch and connect the phone again.

So woud I get some notification in Kies and the Phone would show an option to revert back to 2.2 later?

Regards

Well i dont know if we can revert back to 2.2 ... i know that after removing the registry patch KIES will show us indian updates ....

So once the indian update for 2.2.1 turns out ill check it and let you know ....

until then enjoy 2.2.1 using the registry patch ... it kinda fixes the lag issues ...
