App Storage?

I must admit im new but i am hoping to become a programmer some day and the idea of an open source phone is exciting to me but admittedly im am on the fence with the g1 one question i have is that the internal storage i believe is 80mb on the g1 but i will purchase an 8 gb card with the phone however i have heard that all apps are automatically installed on the internal storage which feels like quite a limiting experience is this true and if so is there anyway around it or are apps so small that there is virtually no problem with the storage since all contacts and other stuff is on the card thanks for your help and please kick me off this fence so i can buy my g1 today

You are correct that apps can only be installed on the internal memory. I have 55 apps installed but not much room for more. Hopefully in the future apps to SD will be feasible. I love my G1!

thanks a lot man im still kind of on the fence with this but if i can convince my sister to partially pay for it (18th b-day present) then i should be getting it today but the way i see it anything is better than a dumb phone like the one i got now (samsung katalyst) so back to the convincing

And one of the great things, because it's open source, and built on the Linux kernel, it's fairly easy to move your applications to the SD card (with a rooted phone, that is.) I've got about 260 applications installed with ~40MB free internal storage :)

260? :D Jeez dude, do you use all of them or are they more for development purposes?

I mostly just like to play a lot of different games, try out different applications regularly, etc, and like you said, quite a few (now that I look :),) devel apps I've made along the way.
