I have an HTD Desire HD and it has built-in widgets for this. No idea if these are HTC specific though.

You could try looking into Timeriffic (free off the market). If you have a regular schedule you can set the phone up to switch off or on certain functions at set times. Example would be to switch things off when you leave for work, and switch them back on when you get home. Helps to save battery as well.

aalso - I'm not sure - but I didn't think gps used data? Is it not a signal received from above? If you have 2.2, I think it is also safe to leave gps on as it is only actively used when an app looks for it (so if you don't have a map open then the gps is not using battery). Hopefully somebody more knowledgeable can confirm though!

Correct. GPS in itself doesn't use data. Apps do. Like navigation apps that download maps to display the GPS signal on.
GPS does use battery, though. But it's hardly a drain.

Y5 is for Wifi, but im looking for something to disallow some apps to go online on gprs, 2g/3g etc.
Droidstats recorded me downloading and uploading 15 mb each day, which is not cheap :S
