whats so good about rooting? also lets say i don't like it can i go back to complete stock? and does it mess the phone up at all? and can i backup the whole phone somewhere?

also could someone give me the thread thats step by step to do the rooting with, saw z4root was the best to do it with?

i read it and it was a little confussin, what are the things i need to download? z4root and what else? im trying to back my phone up too

You will need z4root to actually root it. Once you do that, you need bootstrap to do full backups and install ROM's if you choose to. You can also you titanium backup to backup individual apps and data.

where can i find this? i went on and downloaded it on my laptop but idk how to get it to my phone

Download Z4ROOT to your computer then USB transfer it to your phone. Make sure you've got "Unknown Sources" checked in Applications under settings. After you do this, get to the file via FILES or ASTRO FILE MANAGER. Tap it, Install it, then root your phone.

If all you want to do is root, then you're done. If you want to stay with the STOCK ROM and simply deactivate all the bloatware, I recomend Titanium BackUp, you can freeze the living daylights out of the bloatware.

If you want to experiment with ROMS, read here: http://androidforums.com/droid-2-all-things-root/199012-changing-roms-under-hour-instructional.html

Since RJT didn't mention it and I assume you're going to ask:

You want permanent root. Temporary root only lasts until you reboot your phone, and doesn't always work. You can always unroot later with z4root.

Also, if it doesn't work the first time (stays on the white screen for more than 2 or 3 minutes) just back out of the app, restart your phone and try again. Sometimes these things take 2 or 3 tries (But z4root has worked on the first try for 6 or 7 of the 9ish times I've used it)

Totally forgot Z4 gave you that option! Thanks for the backup!!!
