Sprint we need new phones ASAP!!

It hasn't even been a year yet since the EVO was released...there's also the Epic and Shift. All three are currently on par or better than any other Android handset available on the market.

Sprint is having an announcement on the 7th so you might want to stay tuned for that (although me thinks it might have to do with a certain LG). HTC will make their splash at the MWC.

I was thinking the same. It hasn't even been a year. Plus the announcement on the 7th. I don't think it will be the LG 3D phone though because LG confirmed that today. I don't think they would confirm it before Sprint could announce it. I personally think that the 'big' announcement will be service related. I think that a phone or two will be announced but I don't think they will be amazingly groundbreaking. Nice phones I will probably buy but nothing OMG worthy. Just my speculation though.

Sprint has enough phones, and probably only needs 1-2 in low-, mid-, and top-end categories. The lion's share of phones sold on other carriers are just a handful of phones despite the overwhelming number of options. Ever see how in ATT or VZW, there's that wall or section that NEVER has anyone checking the product?

I also think introducing a bunch of phones before making a definitively commitment to LTE transition would be bad for Sprint. If LTE transition is less than a couple years down the road, why introduce a bunch of phones unless they're Wimax + LTE?

I am thinking of switching to Sprint, should i go ahead with the evo or wait a little longer? How much longer is longer?

I'm holding out for a little before upgrading an additional line (2nd line - Not my current EVO) to an EVO b/c I'm curious if any interesting information will be released on the 7th.

lol. if spint thinks they can get away with 2 decent phones a year they might as well pack it up now.

I don't know, since Sprint has gotten rid of their yearly upgrades, not looking too bright of a future with them. I feel like that was on of their biggest perks. If nothing spectacular is mentioned on the 7th, I will begin contemplating the ETF and looking elsewhere.

They didn't get rid of them for everybody. For Gold Premium you get it every 12 months still. Otherwise it is every 22 months. Verizon got rid of their early upgrades too.

I'll still reap the benifits of yearly updates. Gold Premiums still receive this. Paying ETF at this point out strictly due to hardware isn't bright IMO---The EVO still trumphs or is equal to most (90%) hardware in this market, with the exception of few phones.

I would rather have Sprint focus on network development and let the phonemakers battle out whether they want to work with Sprint. HTC wanted to make a big splash in the US market with Evo, and Sprint was the only carrier they could do it with since no one else had 4G soon enough. I think the makers are going to continue to give Sprint appropriate phone attention only if Sprint's network offers advantage over ATT & VZW. The next 12-18 months are going to be critical for Sprint.

agreed. I think this should be the number one approach for every carrier. If you keep your network up, the manufacturers will come. I remember back in the days of Nextel. It seemed like all of the phones were about a year or so behind the market. I attributed this to the poor network quality at the time; though part of it had to do with the push to talk technology that was required.

Network development has to go hand and hand with hardware, if you focus on the network and neglect new phones you WILL lose customers, LOTS of them. We're living in the evolutionary era of the so called "smartphone" users are looking for the cool new features and if Sprint doesn't keep up on the hardware and can't compete they lose customers and the network budget goes down the tube.

This is not ENTIRELY true, from what my rep told me today over the phone as a silver customer I would still get 1 year upgrades at a 75 dollar discount level and I qualify for a full 150 upgrade the next time I go in to switch phones.

Yes you do get $75 off at one year. But you don't get contract price or the mail in rebate. So the $75 off comes off of the retail price.

Humm... didn't specify on that, if that's really the case then I don't even care if they get a great phone on the 7th, Verizon here I come, I'd gladly pay the 70 extra dollars and sign a 1yr contract.

Verizon is getting rid of a bunch of things and charging more for other things. It is all carriers. They all do things like this that nobody really likes. If you switch because a carrier changes something smaller you don't like then you will always be switching.

Unfortunately for you folks holding out until the 7th, the announcements are going to be Samsung-heavy. Still, there may be some non-Sammy phone announced.

The LG Optimus S is a decent phone. I'd get that before the Shift. I played with a Shift for about an hour. I was underwhelmed with the build quality and the keyboard. I should say that I'm a switcher - I go from the Evo to the BlackBerry Bold often. So finding a physical keypad that measures up to the BlackBerry is a tall order.

A lot of folks were peeved when Sprint announced bupkis at CES. Shouldn't have been a shock to anyone who follows Sprint as they usually announce new hardware during the summer. I agree that Sprint is in danger of falling off the pace by waiting until summer for new phones, but we should get *something* at MWC in Barcelona this month to hold us over. Sprint isn't in jeopardy right this second, but they don't have a lot of time until they lose any edge they had with the Evo and Epic.
