March 6th Release - Feb 13th pre-sale.

AT&T is quickly shooting themselves in the foot with each step they make. They should be offering a competitive bundle that will draw attention, not alienate customers. Now the HTC Inspire looks that much more appealing, or I might just jump ship all together.

Interesting that the article used the term "presale" and not "preorder". I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the Best Buy exclusive on Feb 13 rumors still being true.

I dont think AT&T has anything to do with the unsubsidized pricing shawn. All they can control is subsidized pricing. So what moto prices for full and the dock is out of there hands

I still want to see what Samsung announces at MWC. I think its going to be big. And if it gets released in Q1 then maybe ill just get that of this.. we'll see...

"AT&T executives say the docking feature of the Atrix 4G targets business customers who travel."

This contradicts what Motorola reps were saying at CES that they were not specifically targeting businesses but everyone. Essientlally what there saying is business users are the only ones that will be interested in the Laptop Dock

The more I think about this the more I think it may be a misprint. I can't imagine they think the dock by itself is going to sell for $500??? I can see $150 or maybe $200 but $500???? This just does not make sense. Even the bundle is over-priced at $500 What the hell is ATT thinking here?

I still think AT&T sees Atrix as a device targeting business users. Note the line in the article about offering Blackberry-like subsidized pricing on the phone (and presumably dock) to corporate customers.

i don't subscribe either, but google is a good friend. :D

AT&T Inc. is cozying up to Motorola Mobility Holdings Inc. as the carrier seeks to bulk up its smartphone portfolio running on Google Inc. Android operating system in the wake of losing its exclusive hold on Apple Inc.'s iPhone.

To attract new customers, AT&T Mobility Chief Executive Ralph de la Vega said the forthcoming Motorola Atrix 4G will be the carrier's leading device in its portfolio. Mr. de la Vega wouldn't say how much money the carrier will spend on marketing the device, but he said it would receive amounts similar to campaigns for the iPhone or its previous hit phone the Motorola Razr.

On Thursday, the second largest U.S. wireless carrier by subscribers said it will start selling the Motorola Atrix 4G on March 6 for $199.99 with a two-year contract. Presales will begin Feb. 13.

AT&T's embrace of Motorola and Android comes as it faces increasing pressure from Verizon Wireless, the nation's top wireless carrier by subscribers. Over the last year, Verizon Wireless has countered the iPhone by cozying up to Google, heavily marketing Android, and turning out a string of Android devices, many of which were made by Motorola. Given that success, consumers have come to associate Android with Verizon Wireless.

Moreover, Verizon Wireless began taking pre-orders for the iPhone today just as the two prominent technology gadget critics

You have a point. It is possible that presale may mean that somewhere gets it exclusively first, then att will sell it march 6. I'm not figuring that will actually be the case, but it could.

Good point. A presale is different than a pre-order. Maybe BB will have some type of exclusive. Do you think a 3 week exclusive is a bit long though?

If the laptop dock is priced @ $499, then I would hate to see what the multimedia dock is priced at. Probably $150

This is a very big mistake IMO. The line between what businesses want and what consumers want is damn near the same. Apple proved this with the Iphone. When Iphone first came out I heard from corporate IT groups they would never allow it on their networks. Years later, corporations all over are using it as their main phone. Unless something in the corporate computer world really changes, I don’t think there is a need to market a phone or even a computer to ONLY a Business/corporate environment.

What is strange is that only WSJ is reporting this and reporting an ATT announcement

I was thinking the same thing too. Still not able to find ATT reporting it directly or any other site reporting this (without using WSJ as source)

WSJ frequently makes reports from sources "close to the matter" without confirmation. They have been wrong before but right plenty as well. I take it like the weather man; wrong enough not to trust but right enough not to ignore.

No one else is reporting it, but all the phone sites and other news outlets are quoting the WSJ report.

I pre-ordered my otterbox case for Atrix couple of days ago from a company on Amazon. Today I emailed him to find out if it was true that the case would be available on Feb 26th. Here was his response:

"Hello, based on the launch of the Motorola Atrix on the 14th, it is very likely that the case will be available by February 26th. However, OtterBox has not confirmed a ship date yet."

I have no idea if he has any kind of inside information regarding the actual release date, but figured he may and that I would pass on the info.

I've seen full blown iCore-5 laptops, with Win7 Pro for less than $500...that's kinda crazy. Even if the $500 bundle is $300 for dock and $200 for phone, I'd rather have a netbook so I can run Windows apps.
